It would be nice to see you put it together again :) Like your vids, feels like they're authentic (I've spent much of my life doing stuff myself) /Greetings from Sweden
Cheers! Glad to hear from a fellow northerner. This engine is a very cool piece and I would love to get it back together. I will try to press the piston out this coming week and see where it gets me, I will definitely post a follow-up if it's worth reassembling. Not too fun ending a video on a sour note!
Indeed, I'm feeling the same way. At least the poor old gal owes me nothing at this point. I would be satisfied with at least getting it to the point of turning over. Puller around the jug is my next move, as I don't have a press. Thanks for tuning in!
the oddly-sized bolts are probably "whitworth" fasteners....an old British standard, 55 degree thread angle (vs 60 degree in our standard NF or NC series, or metric)...and head/hex sizes that are related to not much of anything! Usually find whitworth tools (and you wont need many...a 3/8 dr socket set and a few open end wrenches will do it) from suppliers who sell to old British car/motorcycle enthusiasts! Without the proper wrenches, working on these things is a struggle! Great vid by the way!
Thank you! This is possibly the first British engine I've wrenched on, and hammering sockets on both felt like a travesty and got old quickly. Whitworth rings a bell, but I've certainly never encountered wrenches/sockets before.
Just discovered your channel. Great stuff! I’m definitely looking forward to watching more from ya! 😊

My old 63 MGB had all BSW British standard sized hardware I imagine this old Seagull is the same.
Back in the day they used a lot of /32nd sized wrenches and sockets.
Those darn Brits. I have many fractional sockets in 1/4 inch drive, but not much selection in 3/8 sockets or wrenches.
Probably not going to get far with that old thing. Good luck getting the broken bolts out and finding parts.
