For the famous cities, Carthage, Rome, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem, and Athens. They should make it to where you have to take the entire city, even the acropolis. That'd be epic!
They really should have made Jerusalem the region capital and done work on it like they did for Carthage and Alexandria. Imagine the Jewish Temple Mount under siege form Roman legions. I was pretty disappointed to see they didn't do that.
***** true, but with the historical significance for Jerusalem being enormous by itself they should have added the temple of solomon in all its glory. and made historical events about jesus and the judean revolts
You guys NEED to do an anniversary rematch on this map, only this time with Rome and Carthage fielding the most elite units in their rosters and playing with some of the most popular Total War UA-camrs: you, HeirofCarthage, PrinceofMacedon, LionHeartx10, LegendofTotalWar, and WarriorofSparta. And do it like a Sub-commanders video, with one player controlling the navy, one controlling artillery, one controlling infantry, etc. That would be the definition of EPIC!
... or what it could have been. Seriously, this sort of stuff is awesome but rarely if ever actually occurs in the main meat of the game, which is single player. For obvious reasons.
EternallyInebriated Please tell me that was a joke about the ai.... if the ai can beat most players I'd be seriously worried. I mean even on legendary it's easy. I've had to search for mods that change the ai behaviour so there is atleast a slight challenge
seanazaz I was indeed joking. I've been playing since the original rome total war, so I know what you mean when you're looking for a mod that adds challenge to the campaign.
Misusing the elephants was just about their only mistake! They won at sea, had excellent layered defense, with top-tier missile units on commanding (and well-guarded) heights...I'm surprised Rome won at all.
This is an amazing video dude. I really like the idea of splitting the battles (land and sea) its less of a rush for you to explain what is happening and we can enjoy more fights.
Definitely not a words guys, but I respect and appreciate the hell out of your efforts in making this video. Thank you for this and all your other badass TW vids, my friend.
This was honestly the one I've been waiting for, I love Carthage xD And Latin Rome too, I remember watching a documentary about one of the Roman sieges on Carthage, and they let prisoners out of jail to fight and used hair as bow string. And they had multiple layers of walls, not just one outside wall. Also, they were supposedly the first to come up with "apartments" where they stacked houses on houses.
Tyler Watson If by crippled the Roman Empire you mean defeated the small Roman Republic in a few battles in Italy then proceeded to be defeated by the Romans and lost the war, then yeah, they crippled the Roman Empire.
Perky Bellsprout No, the battle that Hannibal won in Italy were hardly minor. The battle of Cannae actually led the citizens of Rome to prepare to surrender if Hannibal immediately marched on the city afterwards (he did not, widely considered to be the greatest strategic mistake of his entire campaign). The Battle of Lake Trebia was equally devastating to the Roman Empire. Rome eventually overcame Hannibal via a war of attrition because they were for a long time unable to defeat him in open field battles (until they had greatly eroded his initial force). I studied all this in college, as part of a History of Battle course I took as part of my degree at Cornell University (an Ivy League school), by the way. I am extremely well informed on this matter.
Rome breathed not a word of peace throughout the entire war. Even though Rome lost a lot of men in the war, Hannibal would have needed 5-6 Cannae's to deplete the available manpower of the Roman Republic. If Hannibal had marched on Rome after Cannae he would have been crushed.
So... I'm not usually a fan of Rome II vids because IMO the game is a bit of a let down. But you manage to make Rome II as it was meant to be, plus you're immensely entertaining to listen to, so many many kudos! :)
Thanks for posting these videos, The quality of both camera work and voice over has improved with every video. I really enjoy these battles and this one was top drawer. Keep up the good work.
+THFE Productions You guys NEED to do an anniversary rematch on this map, only this time with Rome and Carthage fielding the most elite units in their rosters and playing with some of the most popular Total War UA-camrs: you, HeirofCarthage, PrinceofMacedon, LionHeartx10, LegendofTotalWar, and WarriorofSparta. Mohamed Sawan the gallic barbs had experience with field battles, few-none of them had little to no experience besieging cities as large and defensible as rome
Woahh... Watching this makes me imagine the last stand of Mighty Carthage and how she was burnt to her very foundations... :/ Screw it.. Gonna play as Carthage now with Patch 15
I really wish the ai would fight this way rather than pouring everything to one spot. I've never had a battle past the gates because they always just go there to fight
What that map needs is to have you go to...the next level. There's another terrace of hill, with a wall, and then that massive building at the top. I'd love the idea of multi-turn siege battles.
When I was about 8-9 I'd read about Punic wars Plutarch about Hannibal and imagine now you can actually play and be kinda present right in the middle of battle so cool
That would be the definition of EPIC!
The more I watch your massive battles series, the more I wish competitive Total War was a thing, and the more I wish that you would be the main commentator.
Hey Invicta, new subscriber here and history lover to boot. I LOVE what you're doing here. It brings ancient battles to life in a way I thought impossible without actually building a time machine and being there. You said you were open to suggestions. I'm sure I've got a countless list of battles I'd love to see brought to life. One I'd love to see is Boudica's final battle with Roman troops in Britain. I'd also love to see some battles of the Third Servile War if possible (I know Spartacus didn't have regular troops so it might be hard to create specific units of his slave army). Also what about some battles between the ancient Hebrews and the Philistines and some of Alexander the Great's final battles in his ill-fated India campaign? I'd also like to see the Battle of Actium if you haven't already done it. Don't forget ancient and medieval China and Mongolia!
This video goes beyond any "let's play" that has ever been done in a Total War game. The fact that you chose to just play the replay(with post commentary), got rid of flags and the ui, is the single best thing you did. The decision to use the debug camera was in itself "epic!" A video like this is what I have been searching for on you tube for a long time. A video that feels more like watching History channel than it does like watching a computer game. I applaud you on this effort. I am now a subscriber and I will forever continue to watch the progress of this channel. My only hope is that you do not return to the status quo of Total War video's. As an avid Total War player myself, I do hope you decide to continue making ALL your battle video's in this fashion. Cheers, and thank you for making " The Greatest Total War Video Ever Made!"
So this was the end of the 3. punic wars... and it was also the end of carthage. The romans wiped out an entire population- and not for the first time! Anyways, great vid. Keep it up :-)
This was awesome battle most epic i favourtied and subscribed also could i make a request ethier a eastern barbarion defence agsint rome or a briton defence against rome would be much appreciated
In reality it took thousands of ballista shots to dent ancient walls they were well constructed, it was giant rocks being thrown at massive stones. If you’ve ever seen a rock thrown against stone you will see what I mean.
Fun drinking game idea: Whenever he says the word "effective" or any form of that word, you take a shot. I bet you won't make it through half the video.
Very cool and epic video ! I really like how you are commentating , I started to watch rome 2 videos because of you ^^ keep it up btw it is also a good way to learn english as an not narrative speaker
not really an introduction to the series , I started playing with rome 1 but end with medieval 2 and after that i did not really play anymore Now I can play at least Medieval online which is very good tooI want to play rome 2 but my pc is not good enough :/
I was wondering, how would 2 people do that much? Then I saw that 4 people were doing it. Now you need 1 person controlling each individual soldier :).
is this camera mode available in campaign map as well? if so, share it ASAP. I wanna start the Emperor as Anthony, and restart the grand as something other than Rome.
you said the rules were pre-Marius units... the extraordinarii were not pre-Marius they were created and trained by Marcus Brutus who was Julius Caesar's friend and enemy... at different times anyway... and Caesar was around during Marius's late days and afterwards... the Extraoridnarii were inspired by northern-Gaul tribe infantry which were not known about during the pre-marius times...
wow something in your comentary has gone up , before you were talking like you didn't enjoy what you were doing and now you are talking completely calm and confident in yourself :D good job.
Anyone else notice how crazy it is that he talked the whole 37 minutes. Not more than a 2s pause between sentences. Some crazy fillers, bro!
+shadowraya i knew i wasnt the only one whose been gaping the whole entire time noticing he didnt stop xD. Awesome vid and comm. love it! :D
shadowraya two years late but obvious sarcasm
That’s some sports broadcaster skills right there
Your commentator skills are impressive
ClusiveC i know right, it's awesome
But somehow your micro is even better Invicta
It's times like these that just helps to remind me just how awesome and beautiful this game truly is.
Take one drink for every time he says effectively
your gonna be drunk your ass off
I try it
+natsu x lisanna and he was never heard from again...
Bunters196 that is effectively a death sentence
Dude these "Massive Battles" are AMAZING, plz do more.

***** To be fair, at the time the main campaign starts Jerusalem wasn't that important, Petra is definitely a more historical region capital.
*****
true, but with the historical significance for Jerusalem being enormous by itself they should have added the temple of solomon in all its glory. and made historical events about jesus and the judean revolts
too bad the map for athens is pretty lame
slyrooster1241 but rome2 takes place during the republic, christins and all their false teachings never exsisted, nither did jews.
You guys NEED to do an anniversary rematch on this map, only this time with Rome and Carthage fielding the most elite units in their rosters and playing with some of the most popular Total War UA-camrs: you, HeirofCarthage, PrinceofMacedon, LionHeartx10, LegendofTotalWar, and WarriorofSparta. headshots right in our hearts???
Seems logical to me. :D
I dont even know, man.
he's an engineer, he seems to be more of a numbers guy than a words guy
guess so
he meant "headshots and straight to the heart" it's a separate issue -.-
This is a near perfect representation of what Rome II is.
... or what it could have been. Seriously, this sort of stuff is awesome but rarely if ever actually occurs in the main meat of the game, which is single player. For obvious reasons.
Jack Fraser Because the AI is way too good for most players? ;)
Jack Fraser Indeed, what it COULD have been. Even the MUSIC is the music from the original Rome game.
Jeez, where the Carthaginians played by the AI?
Stupid, stupid decisions everywhere, I almost cried looking at how they used their elephants
Misusing the elephants was just about their only mistake! They won at sea, had excellent layered defense, with top-tier missile units on commanding (and well-guarded) heights...I'm surprised Rome won at all.
Turn it into a movie!!!!
I'm thinking of using the footage for a machinima actually. Might get around to seeing what can be done with the footage
THFE Productions
Noice.
That would be epic
Youre style of commentary IS great it's like watching a fine Soccer Match
This is an amazing video dude. I really like the idea of splitting the battles (land and sea) its less of a rush for you to explain what is happening and we can enjoy more fights.

Carthage looked so beautiful.
Alsace Thriene I totally agree!
If you remember, the famous general form there was Hannibal. He and his army crippled the Roman Empire.
Tyler Watson If by crippled the Roman Empire you mean defeated the small Roman Republic in a few battles in Italy then proceeded to be defeated by the Romans and lost the war, then yeah, they crippled the Roman Empire.

Absolutely amazing, thank you for this! Who would have thought 25 years ago that simulations like this would exist
You really are the greatest tw commentator there has ever been!
So... I'm not usually a fan of Rome II vids because IMO the game is a bit of a let down. But you manage to make Rome II as it was meant to be, plus you're immensely entertaining to listen to, so many many kudos! :)

Hannibal should have attacked Rome when he had the chance....
Whole world would have been diffrent
Without siege engines and half of his army being Gallic barbarians?
RussianFluff true... I forgot about that factor
Mohamed Sawan the gallic barbs had experience with field battles, few-none of them had little to no experience besieging cities as large and defensible as rome
Philip Nessi I guess you have a point.
Woahh... Watching this makes me imagine the last stand of Mighty Carthage and how she was burnt to her very foundations... :/
Screw it.. Gonna play as Carthage now with Patch 15
What would ceaser say
why am I only watching this now
Reginald Pugginton you're not the only one.
;-;
now...
!
I really wish the ai would fight this way rather than pouring everything to one spot. I've never had a battle past the gates because they always just go there to fight
"Headshot right to the heart" sounds poetic
This battle was a fight for ever street and town square. Just epic
What that map needs is to have you go to...the next level. There's another terrace of hill, with a wall, and then that massive building at the top. I'd love the idea of multi-turn siege battles.
Heck of a battle, Chock holes all over. Lots of strong points that were really hard to break, You did a fine job of breaking the front.
When I was about 8-9
I'd read about Punic wars Plutarch about Hannibal and imagine now you can actually play and be kinda present right in the middle of battle so cool
I still have big issues with this game, but watching a siege like this makes me want to get it.
Can't believe , you are gamer before becoming history based content creator
by far the best battle yet! loving the siege battles.
what an awesome battle ... i ate my dinner watching it XD ... by the way .. could you tell me nw about the camera thing ? .. i can't wait :D
yeah people have been requesting to know how to do this, I'll come up with a quick video, should be really easy
okey thanks man .. take your time

Brilliant. Shorter than I'd expected, but brilliant. Thanks for posting!
That camera is amazing ! Use it on you next videos as well ! So exciting !
HOLY FUCK
Oakley, this IS the mist epic thing I have seen in any video game.

my personal favourite battle you've ever done! Great job!
One of your very best videos. If not the best.
Absolutely epic. I will personally be giving this 100 views.
Great commentary and most epic siege ive ever seen
I haven't played or watch a naval battle for rome 2 since april i think, they look cool and seem to be pretty fun to play
Thank you for uploading in 1080p

U r genius ! I tried 3 times to take this city but i couldn't their defense is just powerful

Yeah I agree with everyone else - this was really awesome. Keep up the excellent work.
All this... And then you notice it.
Another layer of Carthage is behind this.

was awesome well worth the time to watch keep them coming
Great video. Truly awesome battle. Just an FYI, though, it's pronounced "so-see-eye," not "sokkee." ;) Thanks for sharing!
About 2000 romans lost to friendly fire.
Great battle and excellent breakdown, here take my sub!
Oakley , do the siege of Rome from Allarichus and his horde , the fall of the city in epic scale like this
I got blue balls at the end though! The battle wasn't completely over! Dumb flags... I thought Carthage was gonna win. Great video though
Carthago delenda est!
I'd like to see the Fall of Syracuse during the Punic Wars.
This game looks VERY intensive on the CPU
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS KEEP THIS WORK UP!
That ruled. Nice presentation.
This is a great video. Just a great great video.
His commentary rhymes, it sounds like if he's rapping through this video
I know Rome 2 is widely considered a bad game. But watching this makes me want to buy it. Should I?
Hey, just discoverd your videos, awesome stuff. Are you doing any tutorials? Also, would be awesome if you did a "lets play, roman campagin".
congrats you are doing an excelent work!
you are the perfect example how a youtuber should be
a friendly guy who knows his shit very well
have a like buddy :)
Nice video! :D You played very well ;)
Sounds like a long ass news report XD
dude this guy knows his strategy
I was wondering, how would 2 people do that much? Then I saw that 4 people were doing it. Now you need 1 person controlling each individual soldier :).
You should do the defence of carthage as well.
THFE Productions you said the socii equities were leading the charge even though you didnt bring any
I liked all the different fronts
Plz more
Could you play as Carthage and defend against Rome for a massive battle?
I wish I was friends with the 200000 people liking this video so i can not spend forever waiting for multiplayer battles
THFE Productions how did you get the great harbor of Carthage in a multiplayer battle?
is this camera mode available in campaign map as well? if so, share it ASAP. I wanna start the Emperor as Anthony, and restart the grand as something other than Rome.
I wanna see this guy fight Pixelated Apollo.
Games runs really smooth, i was suprised that there was no unit stutter, has the emperor edition fixed the unit stutter problem?
What happened to Hannibal Barca during the siege of Carthage?
Did the Carthaginian defenders have balistae and other catapults?
I always wanted to try a seige this big but it seems to big and id forget units
you said the rules were pre-Marius units... the extraordinarii were not pre-Marius they were created and trained by Marcus Brutus who was Julius Caesar's friend and enemy... at different times anyway... and Caesar was around during Marius's late days and afterwards... the Extraoridnarii were inspired by northern-Gaul tribe infantry which were not known about during the pre-marius times...
Omg that was just freaking awesome!!!! Even the naval battle.. god... beast.. but uhh Carthage lost again :( lol
Tree-ar-ee-aye* (Triarii)
Great video as always btw
wow something in your comentary has gone up , before you were talking like you didn't enjoy what you were doing and now you are talking completely calm and confident in yourself :D good job.
Aren't these particular auxiliary infantry post-Marian?
