On the pattern instructions, you stated you used 1/16" material. Could this and the other geometric patterns be done with 1/8" (~3.2mm) material?

Where did you saw 1/16"? At the first page of pattern you can find - "recommended thickness 4 mm", yes you can use it, but as for me it will be not comfortable to gluing.
