The reason why it works is because embossing powder is actually very fine shredded plastic. What gives the eye shadow the glimmer is the mica powder. Mica powder is very cheap and easy to use in many projects. And because you're using clear embossing powder, whatever color you choose of mica powder it will work. It also enhances your other embossing powders. Enjoy and have fun crafting.

I learn something new everyday! I had no idea it was finely shredded plastic lol. No wonder it melted under a heat tool like that! I would love to get the Mica powders from Arteza! They are so pretty 😍

Worked at a craft company for many years and we used clear powder and mixed with various colour glitters to give you the sparkly colored powder. Darker colours you add less to powder and lighter colours you can add more glitter depending on how sparkly yu want the powder

This is a good idea! Another unusual use for eye shadow... I was looking for a new scrapping "chalk pallet", and I couldn't find one. The craft stores I visited said that they weren't in style anymore. But one of the employees suggested eye shadow instead. It doesn't work on straight paper as well as the chalk, but if you stamp with pigment ink, and then brush over it with the powder, it gives a nice muted color.

Very cool technique! Takes me back to a better time in life when I used to play in my craft room experimenting with everything. This gives me inspiration to play again and that’s been hard to come by since my husband’s death. I sure appreciate your sharing! I have kept old eyeshadow for years, mostly shimmery ones, due to the mica for techniques such as these. When you got to the part about having to really crush up the ones that aren’t in loose form-I immediately ask myself what would I use to do that back in the day? I am drawing a complete blank! Any suggestions? Can’t wait to see what else you’ve got on your channel! TFS! 🌹Ali K.

Hi, Allison! My real art journey started 10 years ago when my husband died as well.. I drew 450 mandalas in 6 months grieving, so I know what your saying... As for the eyeshadow crushing, I would used an old bowl and the back of a spoon.. This works really well! Unless you have a mortise and pestal, then bowl and spoon lol Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and Happy Crafting! 😁💖

@@CoffeeandCraftswithRory I’m so sorry to hear you lost your husband 😢🙏🏻. Thank you for your reply. I had to laugh. Your right. The back of a spoon, duh! What really made me laugh was the fact that I actually do have a (what do you call it?) Pestal and Morter? Something like that, but you obviously know what I’m talking about! Although it is a pharmaceutical tool from back in the day, I’ve never used it for medication! I have, however, crushed and mixed “you name it” up in there. It’s all, little by little starting to come back to me…thank you for zapping my memory! Playing and experimenting in my craft room/laboratory was my biggest joy! I so thank you for actual inspiration to play around again and I definitely appreciate you replying to me and refreshing my memory. I keep passing by an inexpensive eyeshadow kit I bought one Christmas that had beautiful colors in it, specifically to use in crafting, but their in cake form. I’ve kept it out all this time to remind myself to actually play with it, but never did. I have tons of actual mica powders (that weren’t cheap) and loose eyeshadows, Perfect Pearls, etc., that have just sat there waiting for me. Thanks to you, I’m going to play! 💕 Ali K.

You can also just stamp with a colored stamp pad and then emboss with clear.

Awesome! Can we scrape off our eyeshadow pallet and use that?

    • @CoffeeandCraftswithRory

Yes, you can! 😁👍.. I use an old James Charles pallet and it works great just scraped off with an xacto knife... Thanks for watching and Happy Crafting! 😁💖

Did you do the watercolor pencil after the embossing then?

    • @CoffeeandCraftswithRory
      @CoffeeandCraftswithRory  7 місяців тому

Yes, Barb.. You wanna make sure the embossing powder is dry and the powder is stuck well before you touch it up with the pencils so it doesn't smudge.. Thanks for watching and asking 😁👍❤️ Happy Crafting!

What a fantastic idea! I have loads of different mica powders. Don’t see why it won’t work with them so I am going to give it a go! Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm sure mica powders will work, you might have to adjust the ratio but they'll work 😊 Thanks for watching, Anna!! Happy Crafting!! 😁💖

Very cool technique. Is it 4 to 1? 4 parts embossing to one shafow?

Hi, Eli.. Yes that's the ratio 😊 Thank you for watching! Happy Crafting! 😁💖

This is awesome. I'm going to try this. Hmmm I wonder if I could make embossing power out of plastic bags or other things around the house? I love the challenge of things like that
    Thanks for sharing.

This works with plain mica powders, too. The ratio I heard was 1 part mica to 6 parts embossing powder. So much fun!

Because eyeshadow has other fillers in them, you might need alittle more but I'm sure the results are the same 😊 I'm just to cheap to buy mica powders when I have expired eyeshadows lying around lol.. Thanks for the tip and comment! 😁💖
