That's such great news. I remember a lad in the village I grew up in in the early 80s having one of these. He drove it as though he stole it. Can't wait to see more of it
Well played. I had a feeling you’d end up with something like this. And that closing comment about being owners and buying these things is exactly why I like this channel. Keep it up.
Thanks for the upload! I bought a Red Talbot Sunbeam in the early nineties with a 2.0 SOHC Ford Pinto fitted in it.. Was awesome apart from the Weller wheels!
Lad down our end (South Leeds) had one of these when I was a kid in the early 80`s. When I say lad it was his dads. I once remember him flying round our estate a (a circular estate) a huge sweeping corners in the snow, the arse end gracefully sliding........oh the memories. You’ve just brought them all back....
I remember in the 80s, a mate bought one of these and took me out in it. "HOLY CRAP!" ( The fastest car i'd been in up until that point was a XR3i LOL)
I love this car. When I was 18 many years ago I had a racing green Talbot Horizon that that I made into a feeble lotus lookalike. It had a silver stripe and 4 spoke revolution wheels. I’m so glad you bought this they are as rare as hens teeth and what amazing condition that car is in 😍
Talbot made a group B Horizon to compete from 1981. Things didn't go well though and the project was shelved. To be honest if I had some spare time I would consider building one as a project car to the group B spec. rallygroupbshrine.org/the-group-b-cars/group-b-prototypes/talbot-horizon/

I'm a Coventry boy so this car story is very close to my Rootes! See what I did there lo!!
I’ve not watched it all yet but I’m betting you’ve bought it! I thought you might having watched the previous video featuring it. Back in the day it was simply known as the ‘Lotus Sunbeam’
I'm racking my tiny brain to remember the 2nd name of my mate Dave that had one of these from new. He had a total love/hate relationship with it. When the carbs were set up right it was superb and untouchable around the streets of Newcastle city centre. I thought I was top of the tree in my 924 Turbo but I couldn't catch him. We lost touch around '85, I wonder if he still has it? What a motor. 10/10 for this one lads!
Well done Jason being 54 i am fortunate to have driven one when my Mothers Talbot Ranchero was having a new gearbox and the dealer principal gave her the Lotus for two weeks ...compared very well with Golf mk1 GT1 and the Ranchero was so far ahead of its time 🤔

Owned one back in the 80s and bought one in 2008 and still loved it. Fabulous wolf in sheep's clothing. Big fan of Russel Brooks too from early beginnings in a mini on Epynt one boxing day in the 1960s and saw him several times on the IOM RAC etc. Fabulous car fabulous driver.
Great video. I fondly remember driving one many years ago. It was absolutely thrilling and there’s no doubt you’re both gonna have a ball with this little investment.
Awesome news! Always remember going with my father to take one out on a test drive when they first came out 40yrs ago! Looking forward to seeing your further exploits with the car! 👍👍👍
My very first car in 1988 was a fully striped out rally preped talbot sunbeam, white with a blue stripe, it had plenty lombard rally sticker s from competing in different stagess, fiber glass wings, bonnet, twin 40 delorto 45s,petrol drinker, loud af exhaust, spare wheel was the backseat, full rollcage, starting procedure, fuel pump, electrics before turning the key, started getting fed up of harnesses.
Glad to see an extended video of the lotus sunbeam and then to be told Jason has bought it, well done, wise choice, this will be more raw fun than most of your collection
Oh my...it is the same! This was the first car that I drive when I was 16. It was awesome!!! I could burn rubber popping the clutch in 2nd gear. I treated this car horribly but it was so much fun! Unfortunately .....it really had problems, ball joints exploded...headlights became loose.....windows literally fell out the door frame.
Back in the late 70's my parents had a close family friend who was an engineer working with Lotus at the time. One weekend he came over with the works development car. He took my dad and I for a spin - he didnt hold back! Let's just say its the fastest I had ever been from my home in Romford to Southend- on-Sea upto that point and since! A few years later he did some work in Northern Island for the Delorean Motor Company, sadly I didn't get the opportunity to go for a ride in one!
Brilliant. I can’t wait to see the Sunbeam again in future videos. It’s looks like so much fun and the buzz you guys got from it was superb.....glad she has gone to a good home and will get some use and not stored away never used 👍😀
Amazing rims! I have to admit I never ever heard about the Talbot Sunbeams Lotus... I can only imagine how raw the driving feeling must be! Congratulations to the new addition!
Just noticed no safety harness after change over - glad you guys didn't exuberantly fly off the track into a tree !! Great content as always and congrats Jason.
I’m so pleased you guys have bought this car,I loved them in period, and love them to this day. I remember watching Russell brooks wrestling with one, and the sound, oh my god! Well done to you both.
Love it. Class buy guys! How refreshing to see an automotive UA-cam channel buy a car because of the heart, be able to afford it, will drive the thing and won't flip it after 10 minutes. You were like two boys 😂 How cool!
My Dad used to work for Peugeot/Talbot in the late 70s early 80s, I used to get to sit in these at the weekend and if lucky get taken out in them. The Police used to have them in for serice and I would always stick the blue lights on. Amazing car lads and a trip down memory lane for me, cheers
Good choice mate, I was thinking of one of these over a similar year model Alfa. The Alfas have gone up recently and I saw one of these at an affordable price and thought about it. I remember when they first came out, I was working at a Fiat dealership and the 131 miafiori came out, what a bonkers car that was. You are right, not many made the open market and they were quite expensive too.
There it is!!! I was waiting since the last Video there for the drive! Great Video! Thank you for the entertainment in those days! Keep it up and stay healthy meanwhile!
I remember these new back in early 80 when I was in BAOR with the Army, one of the officers had one and it was a great drive. We all had RS Escorts, Golf GTIs Opel Mantas at al great times.
What a great looking car. Remember these in the early 1980s when I was a kid. Gave the Escorts a run for their money. Nice tribute to Russell Brooks, thx.
Congratulations! As soon as I saw the first video, I started looking for ways to get this thing into California. As you can imagine it proved a bit harder than expected. Enjoy her!
Back in the early 80’s my dad took me to his friends house who had one of these I’m sure it was silver with a black stripe I will always remember it because the number plate was LOT 1S, the guy who owned it always said it was a future classic and didn’t drive it

I remember these in the early 80s. I worked for a rally driver at the time and there were at least 3 of these in and out of our shop owned by his friends. Then one day Peugeot Talbot rally team boss brought a special one into our bodyshop with new wings, doors and other parts, to restore the car to new (it didn't need any panels as it was like new). I painted this car in 2 tone blue and silver, it had a special reg with RAC in it and it had blue and grey velour interior. I hate to think what its worth today??

Very enjoyable video guys. Looks hard work to drive but great fun . What a machine, lots of respect for the old school rally drivers with no driver aids etc. Chuffed for Jason, brilliant news ! Keep up the good work gents. Andy.
Jason... Top marks mate... Really understand why you bought the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus. We never got that model here in NZ, but, I was very fortunate to go for a ride in a Peugeot 205 T16 Group B car. At that time, it was the most manic (scary) and exhilarating experience I’d had in any car. Sprinting and drifting on gravel/dirt roads at 100-120kph and in excess of 160khp on a couple of straight stretches was mind blowing. It was my first ever ride in a full blown racing rally car and when it was over I got out with the biggest smile, along with quivering arms and legs, after having the living daylights scared out of me... I suspect your Talbot Sunbeam Lotus brings back similar memories, whilst still delivering a sensational drive experience. Great purchase... Excellent video guys... Thank you. It’s this type of genuine and honest entertainment that makes the global lockdown for COVID19 more bearable...
My best mate had several of these back in the day, tuned to approx 190bhp at the wheels, nothing could beat us 0-120mph except motorbikes. Cosworths, Merc 190's, Audi Quattro's and 911's all left for dead by it, it was the ultimate sleeper. My mate had his stolen, the sought after S2 headlights, alloys etc all gone. He found it and quickly got it running as it was his daily runner. He primed a new bonnet cream, no stripes, skinny wheels and created a wolf in sheeps clothing. I can still see a brand new 911 owner drivers face as we dropped him up a motorway slip road and left him for dead. This car is a stunner 😃 Lots of them around here were DAC's, that is DAC***Y number plates. Happy memories. BTW, I was 18 years old driving these
Had a moonstone blue with a silver stripe in early 1990. Was absolutely epic, nothing and I mean nothing could come close around A and B roads! My Reg was DAC 105Y, my understanding is that the DAC reg cars were the last built and Reg off them, great times and masssive fun.
@@mickmick7032 Hi Mick, where were you living when you owned it, ( a county area will be fine ), You're so right about their power, incredible even today. My mate used to get the diff of a 1.0 litre Sunbeam and put it in his to increase acceleration, albeit at the expense of the top end speed. Happy memories, those carbs 👍👍👍
CerealKiller Hi mate,I lived in Sidcup Kent at the time I owned car! My mate had a even rarer Avon Sunbeam Lotus and he lived in welling Kent, good days. Had skip brown kit on mine, quick rack, exhaust K&N. Yeah them carbs were 45 Dellortos standard if I remember. Car sounded awesome. Where in the country are you mate?
@@mickmick7032 Hi Mick. I'm in South Wales, there were several DAC's around here at the time, all blue with black stripes if my memory serves me well ( it was 30 years ago ). I never saw an Avon model except in pictures, they were lovely but I don't remember much about them. One of my other mates had an Audi Quattro, another had a 911, all sorts of Escort Mk2's 16 Sports, Mexico's, RS2000's, Harriers ( mega rare now ), a Capri Mk1 Cologne, Metro 6R4 and all the usual XR2/3/4's, Cosworth 3 Door, I drove the origional Irmscher Nova Sport 1.3 when they came out, so many great cars around at the time, but the Sunbeam was the king. We used to wait in the local services looking for Porsche, Audi and Ferrari's pulling in to race with them. I had a more modest history, but quite rare now Mk1 Opel Manta Renault 5 Gordini Turbo Mini 1275 Clubman Mk1 Astra GTE Peugeot 205 CTi Honda CRX MK2 And more I can't remember, I was lucky enough to drive some awesome cars back then, now I have a T6 Kombi, a baby carrier 😂 Did you carry on with an interesting collection ???
Certainly not people would call ‘Influencers’ just pure car enthusiasts, thank you for taking us all along for the ride to experience different cars. Is this car one of your all time great driving experiences? Maybe do a top 5 or 10 of your best driving experiences?
Congratulations on getting the Sunbeam. It's a really special car and you got one of the very best out there. I've known the car and former owner for many years and hope to see it around again at SLOC events when all the madness calms down. Oh make sure you bring the cameras along to film it😃
You can count on us being at a few SLOC events and we always have the camera running 😀 we know how amazing this car is and are so very pleased to be the new custodians.
That's great, real congrats guys. My question to you if having not bought the car would of been - for men who buy/own alot of cars, what on earth does the criteria have to be to take that step of getting the cheque out. Never have I seen two mens man veg been gripped so hard by a car. The right decision has been made. 👏👏
Yes!!! I’ve never been more excited about a UA-cam car purchase! Please do a ‘just the noise’ like TheSmokingTyre does of you guys applying liberal amounts of beanage to that car
Congratulations fellas. What a car, does driving get any better than this? The fact it's road legal is mental. Delighted that it's coming to the channel.👏 Fantastic video.
Haha , your faces were like two teenagers having discovered a stash of jazz mags behind the bike sheds , loved it. This is the thing with old classic cars and twin webers, something that new compromised and sanitised modern cars no longer have , as mentioned rarity assured and try find another one .👏👏👍👍
Absolutely brilliant!! Well done guys, Im so pleased for you. After seeing your reactions in the first episode, it would have been a shame for you to not have it. I look forward to more goings on in the sunbeam :-)

Thanks, Antony, hope lockdown’s working for you - stay safe
Wonderful. Well done guys. What a great way to celebrate when we're free again.
Awesome purchase Jason. I was hoping you guys would buy it with last weeks video.
Brilliant as always RIP Russell Brooks 👍👍
This car is a stunner 😃
Lots of them around here were DAC's, that is DAC***Y number plates. Happy memories.
BTW, I was 18 years old driving these
Great stories, thanks, Cereal 👍
I had a more modest history, but quite rare now
Mk1 Opel Manta
Renault 5 Gordini Turbo
Mini 1275 Clubman
Mk1 Astra GTE
Peugeot 205 CTi
Honda CRX MK2
And more I can't remember, I was lucky enough to drive some awesome cars back then, now I have a T6 Kombi, a baby carrier 😂
Did you carry on with an interesting collection ???
another brill video on an amazing car ..and a touching tribute too a british rally icon well done both
Thanks, means a lot
Epic addition to the fleet. Such a cool car
Certainly not people would call ‘Influencers’ just pure car enthusiasts, thank you for taking us all along for the ride to experience different cars. Is this car one of your all time great driving experiences? Maybe do a top 5 or 10 of your best driving experiences?
Thank you for recognising that’s, Kingfisher. And yes - top 10 driving experience for sure
Well done guys, cracking addition to the garage, can't wait to see some B road blasts!
Congratulations guys can't wait to see the full length review
Congratulations on getting the Sunbeam. It's a really special car and you got one of the very best out there. I've known the car and former owner for many years and hope to see it around again at SLOC events when all the madness calms down. Oh make sure you bring the cameras along to film it😃
You can count on us being at a few SLOC events and we always have the camera running 😀 we know how amazing this car is and are so very pleased to be the new custodians.
Damian needs to get Sam from Seen Through Glass on the channel to drive this, especially after Sam went a bit rally car nuts.
Sam always has an open invitation, as he was the only established YTuber to help us in the early years. Him and Hampshire Photography
@@TheCarGuysTV fantastic. I look forward to that video!
That's great, real congrats guys. My question to you if having not bought the car would of been - for men who buy/own alot of cars, what on earth does the criteria have to be to take that step of getting the cheque out. Never have I seen two mens man veg been gripped so hard by a car. The right decision has been made. 👏👏
Nice tribute. ❤
Great video. Great car. Great acquisition. ✊🏻
Thanks, Mark
Yes boys !! I was counting on you - and you came through 💥😍
Great channel guys ,been binge watching all the videos, keep it up 🤩
Yes!!! I’ve never been more excited about a UA-cam car purchase!
Please do a ‘just the noise’ like TheSmokingTyre does of you guys applying liberal amounts of beanage to that car
That's a good idea
Well done! Following your joy and pleasure in driving a real car...
Thank you! 👍
Well done on the Talbot, guys 👏
Thanks 👍
Congratulations fellas. What a car, does driving get any better than this? The fact it's road legal is mental. Delighted that it's coming to the channel.👏 Fantastic video.
Congratulations Jason. What a car!
Great purchase! Crazy times ahead!!
Absolutely brilliant!! Well done guys, Im so pleased for you. After seeing your reactions in the first episode, it would have been a shame for you to not have it. I look forward to more goings on in the sunbeam :-)
Best car in the garage,,new I subscribed for a reason,,was loosing faith after F40 sale,,,fully restored👍

Ps - bought a 6000 mile very late 2015 Jag XKRS convertible middle of last year to keep the Porsche company, white, carbon pack, one of only 16 uk convertible RS's . .
Sideways everywhere and the noise pisses off the neighbours in the leafy Cotswolds !! Looool
You two are brill !!!
Keep it up !!!! Lol
CONGRATS on the Lotus Jason!
Nice video guys - and yes, you do fall in love with it during the video. I'm almost amazed Damian didn't outbid Jason for it!
My parents had a brand new non-Lotus one, in pre-rusted orange. It was a tank to handle, and had feel-less steering, but you could see why it was about to be such a great rally car in the pre B-Group era. Well done Jason, great buy in smiles per pound - Good Luck on those Essex Lanes!
👍👍
Enjoy.... Properly cool car.... Highly underrated and under the radar for many years... Now really acknowledged and appreciated... A top purchase
Couldn't agree more!
