At 4:20 it should say M1 Mac mini not 18 core iMac Pro 😅. Ironically though the render times were the same 😳

I see we should wait to next year....because
1-we didn’t see IMac M1 ( i see it’s worth it!....if we say it will be 1000$-1200$ u have 4K more ports ,mouse and keyboard!)
      2-redesign all MACs
3-M1 will be more cheaper because all want redesign MACs

That's something no one is really testing....... how well 3d rendering / modelling apps work on M1. It was good to see blender working. I wonder how well the other will do like Cinema4D and Rhino etc. Something else no one is really looking at is hardware drivers for printers/scanners etc.

NEXT: The Best Monitor alternatives which are suitable for Mac Mini M1

  • @AppleBman
    @AppleBman 4 роки тому +1

Mine arrived Thursday. I used it with a decade-old 27" Apple LED Cinema Display via a USB-C to MiniDisplayPort adapter for a couple of days, then bought a Samsung U28E590 yesterday. Connected via HDMI-2 (3840x2160 @ 60Hz). This new display is stunning -- but it's lacking everything that made Apple's displays so great. The Samsung has no speakers, no microphone, no webcam, and no USB ports. (I'd so love to have those three USB ports on the back right now...) I hope Apple will again sell their own consumer-grade 4K/5K monitor made for these new M1's. A matching Apple monitor would fly off the shelves and make the new Mac Mini experience absolutely perfect in every way.

  • @RojSlade

If they are low end Macs, they are overpriced for what they are and the limitations they have. They should be $100 to $250 cheaper depending on the M1 machine we're talking about, and the upgrades to ram and storage shouldn't be any more expensive than $50-$100 each tier.
But then I guess that would make their iPads more expensive than the entry level desktop OS machines, to which I would respond "right...they're overpriced too".
So I guess I'll wait for used products then cause it's not worth the price.

We just happened to order an Intel Mac mini (to replace my wife's aging one) the night before the announcement. I had no idea that Apple would do an M1 Mini at all, despite them using a special one for developers to work on prior to the announcement. When I saw the new one, I literally cancelled the delivery of the Intel Mac while it was about to be shipped. Thank goodness. It would have lost half it's value before it even ended up on our doorstep! The good news, is while we do have to wait a bit longer (here in Canada, it's taking longer for Macs to get here, as usual), but hopefully by the second week in December, my wife will have a 5-6x faster machine to replace her old one, with more storage, more memory, and of course, it will run the current OS (which her old one wouldn't), all for less than our original order! I've never had to do anything like that (I nearly always avoid new v.1 of hardware because there are inevitably quirks and gotchas), but for this once, I'm glad we took the plunge and jumped into v1 of Apple Silicon. Here's to early adoption!

For more pro users on tight budgets i think the cheese grator mac pros are still a great get tho - they can be picked up cheap as hell, and u can spec them out pretty much however u want with all the upgrade options, and all on a pretty shoestring budget. Plus u dont have to worry about the whole "if 1 thing breaks the whole machine dies" issue with all-in-one soldered together macs. The new mini is deffo an intriguing value look tho no doubt

We are blown away at the studio. We are comparing it to our Mac Pro and fcpx is so fast on the mini. Only exporting is faster on our Mac Pro a 20K computer and that only by 15%. Let alone iMacs and Intel MacBook pros with Intel. Great innovation from Apple. We have the 16 gigs of Ram model. Can't wait for Adobe M1 apps.

@@Burritosarebetterthantacos We are using BRAW with DaVinci and it plays in 4K flawlessly. Our 12K BRAW needs to be downgraded to 4K on the timeline. Prores is perfect. But fcpx prores is amazing.

The value is just insane, I'm planning to buy the base one, keep it till the M1x or M2 arrive next year and resell it.. this would cost around $200 after using it every day for a full year or more..

You can get a used i5 Mac Mini 2018, for like 600$, eGPU box for 150$, and a Vega 56 for that eGPU box for 200$. That would overall outperform the M1 Mac Mini and by overall I mean it might not be better when it comes to CPU, but the eGPU and potentually extra RAM will come in help in tasks that require those. Keep in mind that the M1 Mac Mini doesn’t support eGPUs, nor does it have 4 Thunderbolt ports or a 10 GB LAN.

Yes please a guide on used macs would be great. However, here in the UK the prices seem higher than the US. I managed to pick up a Mac Pro 5,1 for £275 and upgraded it a little using one of your earlier videos. Great work.

I have been using the Mac Mini (2018) and I believe it is the best Mac I have used other than the iMAC. The versatility of being able to use it between The TV and any size or brightness monitor is important for me as an Artist. Thanks for this update on the Mac Mini line definitely an important tool for people working between Apple and PC tools. Sad that you can no longer upgrade the RAM but this is fair enough. Lachlan.

I just picked up an M1 mini yesterday. Its awesome period, never mind what a great value it is. I wish it had another thunderbolt port or two, and space gray would be nice, but small issues given the awesome capabilities it has. Hook this up to a nice ultra wide monitor and for $1,500 bucks you can have an awesome workstation setup. Who would have thought that was even possible

Like you stated in your intro this is an entry level machine. I think for most people, this will provide them more than enough they need. I am a PC guy and got a great deal on Mac Mini with the Intel processor and so far I love this machine. I been using it for Zwift and as media player. I still use my PC for work related stuff…but I am tempted to get Mac Mini M2 and make that my primary work machine. My 2020 i5 Mac Mini is more stable than my 2023 i7 PC laptop.

Hey Luke. I brought my MacBook Air M1 to it's knees this morning, just working. Overheated, over demand for ram, it just became unresponsive in Safari. I had to sleep it for 10 minutes and then close out some windows of charting software for finance. It's the base model. Definitely recommend a fan and 16 g ram, therefore Macbook Pro or Mini. Was using a 2013 MacBook Pro 15" last 7 years except at least I had 2 DISPLAYS with that set up. Otherwise this new Mcbk air is a dream for less intense use.

There’s a new benchmarking tool out for a couple of days now. It focuses on direct comparison to the 16 inch MacBook Pro and on thermal throttling. You may take a look. It is called APSI bench and available for Mac and iOS in the AppStore.

I just got the base model Macbook Air. It is a beast. It is a new era in computing. Let's call it Arm Laptop era. Once others figure out how to make an M1 chip it will drive down its cost and make it more ubiquitous. I don't care much about the mac mini as I like a minimal setup, just one laptop, then hook it up to a monitor if required.

Imagine replacing the CPU and graphics boards in the 2013 Mac Pro with Mac mini M1 motherboards, and make the work together, as a cluster. Not only it would be a powerful machine, it would consume less power and still look awesome. Not that the Mac mini looks bad, it doesn’t, but the 2013 Mac Pro body with the capabilities of the M1 chip (And having 2 or 3 of them working together) would be amazing.

I have to say we upgraded our entire office with new m1 Mac mini’s and m1 MacBook Air and to off set that cost we are selling our relatively new 16inch MacBook Pro, 2020 intel MacBook Pro and unused 2020 iMac and they have all taken a nasty depreciation. Your spot on. I think these will radically change the resale market on second hand intel macs. I just wish we’re not as late to the game at getting ours listed on eBay.

Literally noting to lose! And I got to admit the M1 chip is amazing !!! Smooth and chill at the same time! R.I.P. intel

Luke one thing to point out that may make this a real value and use case better than a M1 MacBook is that you have a dedicated power connection, and native hdmi physical port. Which means you can use your 4 other ports for peripherals. Where as with a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro you really can’t use it as a desktop replacement as you will use one port for power and the other would most definitely have to be used for a dock which will probably take a hit in performance.
