I first heard this song in 2016 when I watched When Marnie Was There and it immediately resonated with me--a perfect ending to the film and a beautifully atmospheric solace from my anxiety. The lyrics, which tell the story of the singer, Priscilla Ahn, and parody the film's protagonist, were deeply relatable at that time. While I was never lonely growing up, 2016 was my 2nd year of college--and I still hadn't found any real friends, and would, many nights, "just sit in my room after hours with the moon, and think of who knows my name." This song became a haven for me that I would listen to and "find that I am not alright, and [I] cry"--an achingly beautiful respite from the lonely anxiety hell I was living in at the time. Fortunately, by the end of the year, I had found true friends, and started working on seriously re-wiring my brain to become more confident and less anxious--but this song continued to be a comfort song when I needed it. Fast-forward to now, and I still love it just as much, even though I no longer relate to it.
I'd been planning on covering it since that time and I finally came up with the perfect arrangement idea last year! After watching Terror in Resonance and listening to the brilliant Iceland-inspired OST by Yoko Kanno, I was reminded of the Icelandic post-rock group Sigur Ros--and realized this song would be so awesome in that kind of style! I bought an Ebow (the thing with the blue light in the video) just for this song to be able to do all those amazing atmospheric swells and such and I am obsessed with the sounds it can make! Everything in this cover is drenched in reverb and it was so much fun to get to make this genre I rarely even listen to. The acoustic parts from the original song are so gorgeous I put in the time to learn them even though I hate playing fingerstyle, and it was so worth it--they add so much to this arrangement. Getting Sky on this track is just the cherry on top of one of my favorite arrangements I've ever done and he absolutely killed it! Go give him some love in the comments and check out his music and Twitch streams--amazing musician. Thanks for watching (and reading, wow this was more than usual lol) and make sure to like, comment, subscribe, and ring that bell to be notified when I upload new videos!

🇹🇭😁👍👍👍👍✌️
what tool was used on the guitar to make that post-rocky sound?
it's called an Ebow! they're super cool and useful; it's an electromagnet that vibrates the string continuously so you don't have to pick and can sustain infinitely.
@@davidguthriemusic Thanks! :D
