    I will be waiting for your video on the new control arms .I had exact same issue when I rebuilt mine and had the alignment done.the shop got it as close as possible and have been driving it for 10 years now on that alignment with no noticeable tire wear. My car is a 1970 which I drive 3-4k miles per year.enjoy your videos. Did alot of the same projects that you have done.non numbers matching car so I did a big block swap! Love my era correct 454!

      @@carlearnest4836 Cool. It’s probably even more crucial to have a good front alignment with that big block sitting up there! I’ll make a video for sure and report back. I hate spending the extra money, but I want it right and I can sell the OEM and Global West A-arms and hopefully get most of it back. Sounds like you’re enjoying your ride, which is really all that matters.

    Fix her up!!!! I made a lazer alignment set up for side by sides at my shop it will work on anything with 3 and 4 wheels and the turn plates work great for setting the proper degrees. Used it on my 71 Vette and it straightened up the entire car what a difference in handling!!!! Doing great with the vids and nice ride you will get her good to go in no time.

      @@StingrayBob I’ll document this for sure. Hate to have to spend big bucks on upper control arms, but it needs to be right.

    Global West sells offset upper a-arm shafts (part # 706). If you have these a-arms and you installed them backward the camber can be excessive. You may be able to correct your problem by rotating the shaft 180 degrees. Call Global West for specific instructions.

      @@edpalser9314 I spoke with GW this morning before I went to the alignment guy. Those offset shafts provide up to 3/8” extra, but the shop guy said he wants at least 1/2” I just don’t want to keep buying things to patch a problem I know I can fix with the right parts. I appreciate the info you shared. Thank you for looking out.

    The C3 have a tendency for the shock towers to bend inward for that reason you should install a spreader bar.

    • @thedrivewayC3
      @thedrivewayC3  2 дні тому

      @@iceman10618 might be a good idea. What if they need to be bent out? Is that realistic after body and paint is done?

      @@thedrivewayC3 this was a minor issue on big block cars because of the extra weight of the engine.

      @@brockbenson4603 Really? I would have thought they would be more prone to frame sag and issues. Good to know.

    You need offset control arm shafts.You gain about half an inch of more adjustments .

    • @thedrivewayC3
      @thedrivewayC3  2 дні тому

      @@iceman10618 The shop guy recommended against those. I asked about them and looked into it, but he said the other ones are much better and will provide more than enough adjustment. The offset shafts provide 3/8” (according to Global West). Shop guy said he needs at least 1/2.”

    If you have a good machine shop near by i would get the top shafts machined, plenty of people have done this with success with tubular impala a-arms installed. Plenty of info on the corvette forum

      @@steven6170 Good advice, but the new parts are on the way and will likely be a better investment, given they provide several points of adjustment.

    I think moog makes off set control arm shafts for a lot less money and do the job just fine I’ve used them before hope this helps

    Didn’t you have some issues when you first installed those? Maybe it’s the arms that are the issue?

    • @thedrivewayC3
      @thedrivewayC3  2 дні тому

      @@michaelriley3110 Well… I’m trusting the frame guy who only works on cars all day every day. The shock towers might have collapsed a little (not uncommon), so after the new upper control arms are in, I’m planning to install a separation bar.

    • @iceman10618
      @iceman10618 2 дні тому +1

      The spreader bar will drastically help from future collapse and the car handles better.

    This is the problem with poor aftermarket design and manufacturing. It's been like this for years. I've restored a few C3's and always try to stick with OEM parts. The GM engineers are proper educated engineers, not some guy with no degree who thinks he can design something better, and then gets it manufactured as cheap as possible to make the most margin on the sales.

      @@brockbenson4603 There are certainly a lot of parts like what you described, but the arms that are on the car now are made by Global West here in So Cal. They are quality products, but my car just happens to need more adjustment, possibly due to slightly collapsed shock towers or another issue. (I still need to measure). Either way, I need something more adjustable to make the car drive well. I would likely have a similar issue with the stock parts.
