Oh! I was searching for the kind of video. That kind of details are the things that I like of MtG, and I was struggling to find it in FaB. Objective Correlatives. Thank you man.
This is absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for yet another example of "something that I knew deep down but couldn't quite put my finger on"! Even while playing Oldhim for years and running the Tunic, it made sense to me - I didn't picture the grizzled, thawed-out ancient Guardian in a dress, but I always imagined that he kept a scrap of a dress, something that he always kept with him as a reminder of someone important to him long ago, someone who has faded to time. That memory invigorates him and keeps him going even as he fights with new allies (or now, as he's retired to an uncertain future, perhaps to fade away to a well-deserved rest). There is something so melancholic about being an ancient warrior, revived to fight in the future when all your friends and loved ones have long since faded from the world. This is the kind of thing we need more and more of. I'll be rewatching this like all my other favorite video essays and can't wait for the next too! - Felix
I f-ing love this theory. We might need to schedule another podcast to talk about it. The idea of personal interpretation of game pieces is one I think needs to be in the wider fabtcg lexicon!
My Boss: Those reports were due on my desk today. Why didn't you get them done? Me: Gorg tom vid yo Boss: No probs. Send link? god i love that there are video essays for fab
I love when someone weaves the passions of their life into cupcakes for us to eat. Please make 10 more videos on this. Show don’t tell isn’t a bad phrase but now I know it means objective correlative. When my bloodrush goes off I know it’s time to kill or be killed and the brute art is the most vicious because you live and die by how aggro you can go. Great job on this.
You're right in that Show Don't Tell isn't bad. I should have said "not complete" instead. Show don't tell doesn't explain why or what is effective in story telling. The objective correlative, once known, is inescapable! You'll be seeing them everywhere now. In every film, every book, every game. They are absolutely everywhere.
It made me cry a bit to write it! Truth be told, I didn't even quite realize how impactful FaB was on me in that particular way until I was writing the video. Thanks so much for the kind words!
Thank you for repeatedly reminding us just how much games can mean. The way you taught Objective Correlatives definitely made me rethink how badly I used to convey emotions in writing. On a second thought, it actually sounds like a comparable concept to Ludonarrative Resonance/Consonance when considered in games, or am I off-base with that?
For sure! I would absolutely say that the strength of print fiction is its ability to flexibly zoom in and out of emotion at will. I would say this has a direct link to ludo narrative dissonance. I actually talk about this at great length on the IP2 podcast. Go give it a listen! And thanks for the kind words!
Oh man, this really speaks to me. I'm someone who loves thinking more about the ludonarrative of a card game than just the pure math of it (Though I mean, I also _do_ like the card game itself of course), and I hadn't heard the term Objective Correlative before, but it's a very powerful phrase. I'm only now just getting into Flesh and Blood, but in other TCGs in the past my favorite thing to do is to come up with flavorful decks. Not necessarily "canon" decks (those are far too restrictive for me, usually), but ones that _feel_ right together. Characters from all across the lore of Legends of Runeterra or Magic the Gathering and therefore might never have met, but _could_ have met, and have vibes that make me feel they would be good friends or have interesting dynamics of other sorts, and combine into fun play-patterns as a result of their personalities and their clash or combining. I love coming up with headcanons about these pairings, like thinking about how Ekko and Zilean or Varus and Pantheon would interact and have cool dynamics were they to meet, to the point of starting to write fanfiction about it, all as a result of them _feeling_ great to play together. Can't wait to get into Flesh and Blood and get some of that same feeling-- You've really sold me here on the ludonarrative potential of this game. :)
I'm so glad to hear it! Thanks for the kind words. And I agree, that FaB has extremely high potential in Ludonarrative. It's a brilliant melding, and the scope of the game is just, just right to aid in visual clarity of what is happening in the battle.
Excellent video The tone, timing, and delivery of the content was in my opinion efficiently provided which in turn inspired confidence. True skill, thank you for creating and sharing. I enjoyed it and I appreciated it.
I am not that much into the lore of the game, but your videos always hype me up and make the different decks I play seem much more interesting. Love the imagery!
Now that I have a term for it I think mine is viserais nebula blade because of how it gains power. It's a one damage broken sword that all of a sudden becomes incredibly powerful when it's charged by a non-attack action in the same way that he generates rune chant s It feels like he's summoning up a well of power
Yes! And what this says about Viserai is that he needs to reach into the dark dimension for his weapon to become strong. His weapon is weak without being dipped into the well of darkness. Viserai, himself, is a husk without the magical elements he draws from in the dark dimension!
@@gorganiantome he draws on the arknight shard in his chest like a battery. It provides him the power he needs. I still feel viserai is at his best not as an aggro go wide, but a set up when he generates runechants which reduce the cost of his attacks like drawing power for them and then attacks in a devastating wave of arcane and physical. Nebula blade is the blade he is meant to wield not Rosetta thorn.
@@andrewostman3135 ah yeah true! Makes perfect sense. And I couldn't agree more. Rosetta thorn just looks... wrong in his hands. Nebula Blade fits so, so well.
Thanks so much! Sam is my biggest inspiration. I watch one of his videos at least once a week haha. I personally think we just approach our scripts from different angles. Sam is much more focused on Art History, and I am more focused on Narrative and design. I am NOT a good art historian hahaha

What an interesting observation. I will have my (Ophidian) eye more focused on these elements from here on out.
Excellent! I'm so glad you found it interesting and that it influenced the way you'll think about the game! That's all I want from G-Tome! 😂
