The Canadians were some of the toughest man in the war, and lead many of the assault
In less than 10 hours, more than 60% of the 6,000 British, Canadian and American troops who landed on the beach were either killed, wounded or captured. All of of the 28 tanks which came ashore alongside them - essential if the troops were going to be able to break through the German strongpoints - were knocked out. Many were stranded, unable to move on the loose shingle, and picked off by anti-tank guns.
The failure of the Dieppe landings provided many lessons. Trying to capture a heavily defended port was likely to fail, commanders realised. Troops would have to land on sandy beaches, and their tanks would have to be able to make their way across these beaches and punch holes through the seawalls or other concrete obstacles the Germans had built up.
The show is decent, but half the spread between "commercials" is taken up with rehashing the story from the beginning. So you end up with an hour show putting out barely 18 minutes of actual storyline.
Many of the tanks that were swamped, coming in many many tanks of the other beaches that had almost no German pushed back where the tanks are eventually made the turn and came down onto the beach
Im no expert but have to wonder where the airforce, and artillery were all this time? That many german tanks and 88s would have been a gift to either.
This bs of having two ads that are longer then hell per ad makes it not worth watching.

I wonder about the rest of the story of Phil Lawrence, after his Sherman reversed the Tiger didn't shoot again or chase them? and they drove away back to their lines? Perhaps the ears of the Tiger crew were bleeding and they didn't want to drive through the hedge in pursuit thinking there might be more Shermans?

Tiger I didn't have major transmission issues.
@lyndoncmp5751 yes it did all the variants of tank that came mid to late war had issues that never got fully fleshed out due to supply problems and factories getting bombed

Incorrect. The Tiger I transmission wasn't that bad. That's why all the Tigers that fought in Normandy actually did hundreds of km road marches to get there. If the transmission was as bad as the myth now says, barely any of them would have reached the front.
It was the ENGINE that Tiger Is had a problem with, not the transmission. However if the driver was careful and didnt overdo it then it was ok, with proper maintenance and servicing.
In 1944 the Tiger and Panther had an overall 75% plus operational average, reaching a high of 98% for the Tiger in September 1944.

The Mk VII was definitely too hard to maintain mechanically just like the Mk VI.
this is massive propaganda, the DD tanks the United States Navy launched too far out didn't make it, the Canadians and British who had the Royal Navy train them did much much better
Oh wow look at mr wikipedia....if you read the actual battle reports(easily googled) you would know 2 Duplex drive tanks (funny shermans) made it on the beach out of like 40 that floundered...it wasnt tom hanks and thousands at a time wave and tide of americans that got them off the beach....it was two fucking tanks that were knocked out on d day plus 2...doesnt make for a good story but yeah, two tanks decided the fate of Europe..nameless heroes but forgotten for a terrible reason ...sacrifice
@kittycatcat6962 On the most easterly of the beaches, SWORD, the 13th /18th Hussars supported the infantry of the 8th Infantry Brigade. Launching from 5000 yards out, they landed 31 out of 34 DD tanks.

Oh yeah! Well the rebels blew up the deathstar thanks to the bothan spy network. So there.
They foundered because the seas were higher off Omaha Beach. They were launched according to the plan. Those that were scheduled for Utah were launched much closer to the beach.
I think American armored tactics at the strategic level, were incredibly poor. And the so-called American legends like Patton, sacrificed his own men's lives for expediency over and over again. And the British were no better either.
The Americans and British, captured an intact Tiger 1 tank in early 1943 (this tank still runs to this day, it is in England and is called Tiger 131). Presumably the allies would descend on this tank like so many ants, eager to tear it apart and expose its secrets, and devise a way to fight back against this incredibly formidable tank.
Whether they did this or not is unknown, but the results for the poor bloody soldier was the PIAT (a truly awful weapon in every way) and the American super bazooka (regular bazooka using larger shells). The Germans captured some US bazookas in North Africa, decided they were a swell idea, and promptly copied them into a thing they called Panzershreck (a German made bazooka but firing a bigger rocket). And that was it, full stop.
The M26 Pershing tank was well under development by the time of D-Day and could have been fast-tracked to get it to Europe sooner (the Germans did this all the time, with mixed results). Because the allies already knew what the German Tiger could do and knew they were going to meet more of them soon, the only true answer was deploying large numbers of Pershings to support and protect the large numbers of Shermans that were going to be coming under fire of German tanks and guns soon. But nothing of the sort happened, and not til 1945 did they receive Pershings in significant numbers. In the meantime, Sherman crews were chewed up one after another from D-day to the end of the war. A needless slaughter of tank crews and a blight on the record of the almighty American general Patton.
