My elementary/middle had a small convent, but the last nun was the principal until like 2000 and then she retired. The priest lived at the affiliated church about a mile away. But my high school was built in the 50s and had a church built in, but no one lived there. Actually, nor did the catholic school my grandmother went to in the 50s before that shut down.
Maybe it's a more common thing in some states. Where I am in NY, above 3 hours above NYC, it definitely isn't a common thing.

@Rick Delair The old CRT (cathode ray tube) (picture tube )televisions, or even computer monitors contained phosphorus which would illuminate when electrons hit it. The burn in was when the screen was on for hours, and that image was burned into the glass by the phosphorus,. That;s why old computers had screen savers, and it was wise to always change the channel on picture tube televisions back then.

I went to this school from 1993-1997. This is Saint Peter Chanel High school opened in the 50s and was closed in 2013. It closed due to declining enrollment due to the closer of some of its feeder elementary schools. Has been the sad general trend in the Cleveland area but more so in Bedford and the southeast Cleveland suburbs it drew students from as well. In 1991 there was a huge chemistry fire that caused 250-500k in damage. This school was famous for having the longest football losing streak on record losing 50 in a row until September 1994 when we beat Garfield Heights something that was mentioned on David Letterman. The school turned the football program around and actually won the state title in 2001 and was runner up in 2000, quite a turnaround. The school also won state championships in boys and girls basketball, and wrestling. The school has some famous alumni including Tom Ganley, and NFL players Steve Cargile, Ernie Kellerman, Markus Steele, Brandon "Bam" Childress and Gene Smith (now Ohio State Athletic Director). There are a lot of stories in those halls, this is an excellent video, it shows places I hadn't even seen.

A bit of back story on this school. I’m from the Greater Cleveland area and this school was located in Bedford, OH about 20 some minutes from Downtown Cleveland. The school was known as St. Peter Chanel High School and was ran by the Marists and was originally an all boys school until the late 80’s? Any Chanel alum should be able to correct me on that. Due to financial strain and declining enrollment, the Cleveland Diocese shut the school down. My high school had a steady rivalry with Chanel as not only was our schools very similar, but competed in the same conference for many years and always consisted of epic basketball games that would pack each other’s gyms. I’ve been to this school several times for basketball and football games and it was sad seeing the schools abandoned state. I even played my last basketball game in that gym when I was a kid. The school was just recently demolished to make wave for I believe a new building owned by Bedford City School District. If anyone looking for the location, the school was located on Rockside Road in Bedford and was directly across the street from Bedford High School.

I’m totally blind so all through my schooling I had vision teachers and mobility teachers. When I was in the sixth grade my vision teacher had a chart it was a braille paper filled with squares, we would put a star in each square. The star is representing each thing that we did that day, at the end of each row I would get a treat usually it was Reese’s cups. When I got down to the bottom and filled up the whole chart with stars I got to do something very special, One day I finally got to the bottom of the whole chart. I got to decide the special thing I wanted to do, I wanted to talk into the public address System because I’m interested in audio recording equipment like microphones and things like that. So my vision teacher came up with an idea, that was doing the morning announcements. I took home a script to practice with my mom helped me, then on the big day I got to do it I even lead the class in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Actually, I'd like to make a correction at 1:40 I could be entirely wrong for this system, but it looks exactly like the one my school had.
That wasn't just a PA room. Those of you who remember "Channel 1 News" Schools would sign contracts with that company and every night, they would send out the signal for the next days broadcast and that system would record it and the school would schedule a time for it to play during class and it would turn on all the TV's in the classroom and play the broadcast. This is so cool seeing stuff like this. One of the high schools I went to was opened in 1959. It was renovated over 10 years ago after the school was damaged from a tornado that destroyed the entire 9th grade wing a few years before I went there. It’s a public school, not a catholic school though. I wonder how many years the building has since only the 9th grade wing is new, but the rest of the building is still the original from ‘59.

Concerning the comments about the Computers (the PC's). They are from the 90's, IF NOT older! There is no way the most UP TO DATE Windows 10, could EVER run on them!
And as to the Computers themselves, they are SO old that no one would be able to provide Computer Parts, let alone the Computer Service!
    Nice sentiment...but simply not doable!!
Now, there are MANY Green Chalk Boards that could be taken down and used in other Schools!!
Finally, the 3rd Floor was a Dormitory. Whether for Staff or Students, it is called a Dormitory!

Wow this was very great documenting of a place some of us older folks may recollect the "old school" being. Catholic schools are private and are generally run by nuns. Sisters being denounced of all personal belongings when they join, and becoming devout servants of the Lord, like Catholic priests they used to reside on church owned property. At least in the past Nuneries would often b next to, near or actually on the same property of their local church and base their work, organize and host other women from all over the world. Appologies for such long a comment or if someone else previously shed light on the subject. I was raised catholic and attended private Catholic school and while several generations after the construction of this school, mine was of the same era and ran by Sisters of the church who resided at the school. My school was not a boarding school but some are and the education is generally quite good due to the strict nature of these intense and sometimes brutal women. Who at least back in the day could b known for their violent punishment and why disobedient school aged girls would b sent to these establishments. Gosh i could keep goin cuz info is just popping up because had an aunt who joined an order of sisters who traveled the world establishing shelters for battered women and children on funds they raised. Again sorry so long and hope its of interest why the placed was abandoned in such an intentioal and thorough way

SVHS was still being used the early 2000’s. That wasn’t shag carpeting, the upstairs were the living quarters for the nuns and the big room with a porch was a commons area. Not wearing a mask where there is exposed asbestos is really careless.
