    Please don't follow any information blindly. DO YOUR RESEARCH AS WELL! As it keeps updating and dates keep changing
    Also The total number of unemployment days allowed on OPT is 90 days and STEM OPT has 60 days.

      This comment is very important. I recently saw H1b videos from a UA-cam, would brought and consultant on the show, the consultant was giving wrong information. Appreciate this comment a lot. This is serious stuff, don’t rely on UA-cam for this stuff, do through research yourself, watch the video for basic reference.

    2:54 Important point of information:
    It is not 3 months before, it is 90 days before. So you cannot just fix the date and go 3 months back, you have to count exact 90 days. Because months do not have exact 30 days in them.
    Same goes with the OPT start date. It is 60 days after graduation not 2 months after. There is a big difference.

    Have a Q - what are the restrictions/process on changing your employer if -
    1. You got selected in the lottery
    2. If your H1B is under process
    3. If you have recently received an H1B with current employer

    You are still in a student status (F1) when you are in your OPT. If you want to travel internationally when you are in your OPT you still need your F1 visa valid, I20 signed in the last 6 months, and now you will add your EAD card or OPT card.

    You should be able to travel with just your OPT receipt, although there are rumors of folks being denied re-entry (specifically Chinese and Indians). I myself and my Italian roommate left with just the receipt without having the EAD card yet and there weren’t any issues. In fact, of the many times I travelled after graduation, no cbp officer has requested to see my EAD card. Just my personal experience, take it with a grain of salt.

    I'm planning for my Masters in the US. This video was quite helpful. I did have a query. Based on your personal experience, how often do employers sponsor Immigrant Indian students for OPT and H1B and Subsequently for Green card? Is there any discrimination or preference to hire locals?

    • @aswinsrikanth408
      @aswinsrikanth408 Рік тому +1

      for sure there is a preference to hire locals , but if you're talented enough you will defo get the job . Another Green card is a completely different ball game, you have to be a resident of USA for 9 years (not sure) and then you can be lucky enough to get the green card. You should apply for green card long before and it is first come first serve basis

  • @Monke-vr69420

    DSO here...nice content, just a few corrections....OPT is not a different visa category or immigration status and the SEVIS record remains active. OPT is a continuation of F1 status. Also, most importantly, the earliest date to apply for post-completion OPT is 90 days prior to the I20 end date/program completion date - NOT 3 months. So, if you complete your program December 15, 2021, the earliest date that USCIS should receive the application is September 16, 2021 - not September 15, 2021. The same applies to the 60 day grace period and deadline to file, which would be February 13, 2022 - not February 15, 2022. This is VERY important because filing even one day too soon or too late will result in a denial of the case.
    Also, students are permitted 90 days of unemployment while on post-completion OPT (and 150 aggregate on STEM) - not 2 months.
    PLEASE always check with your Designated School Official!

    I really like your videos and your information are up to the quality. If you don't mind answering, I have a question regarding the switch from F1 -> H1B Status. So, My F1 OPT expires on 7th February 2025 and the H1b Filing starts on 1st March 2025 and the results comes out on 1st april. Therefore after 7th April, I have 60 day grace period to file my H1b. Is it wise to leave the US or ask Employer to apply for H1b before 7th April so that I can stay in US? Please let me know your thoughts. I really appreciate it.

    Dear, i applied for H1b visa and my petition is returned back to USCIS as per mail received from Consulate. After Law suit, my lawyer sent me the Affirmation Notice received from USCIS and as pet the notice, my case sent back to state department. This notice states that
    "What the Official Notice Said
    This is to advise you that we have reaffirmed our previous decision on the above application or petition which the Department of State had previously returned for review. We have forwarded the case back to the Department of State for action." I sent this notice to consulate by mail but no reply. I am confused whether should i wait for the mail from consulate or i need to take appointment again with Embassy/consulate.
    Thanks to clarify please.

      Not really. That's quite average, below average infact for software engineers

    • @manthanbhatt2008
      @manthanbhatt2008 3 роки тому +2

      @Divyanth Jayaraj With all respect sir, I came to the US from India and am working here. My dataset is decent sized(say ~100); all my friends and acquaintances are earning 120k-200k right out of college.

    • @manthanbhatt2008
      @manthanbhatt2008 3 роки тому

      @Divyanth Jayaraj I don't understand why all of H1b data is relevant here? We are specifically talking about software engineers who have studied in the US. That is a very small percentage. Also, these out of college kids earn much more than experienced folks comming from India. So it is rather opposite - employees coming from India bring average h1b salary figures down. Also note that h1b data only has base salaries, the total compensation (which is used for tax calculation) is usually higher than that.

I would recommend definitely mentioning you need sponsorship when applying for jobs. Another method is try finding agency’s that sponsor then you can get a job thru them.

      PharmD (professional program) is not considered STEM and not eligible for OPT extension. However MS/PhD in pharmaceutical science fields are considered STEM.

    Hi,
    I have never heard of the tax comment you made. Do you care to explain more as to why on OPT you pay less taxes?
    Thanks in advance.
