Looks awesome - love booms for one handed riding and harness use - very interested - question: does the bag extend so that you can store with the boom on in the bag?
I love how you guys between 04:30 and 5:40 are trying to 'dream up' uses cases for the handles haha. As a 3rd gen Nova user I am not yet convinced that I need this. In fact the best hard handle layout was on the Nova v2, which had that long front handle and shorter back handle. The front handle allowing one handed powered up riding. The Nova v3 suddenly didn't have that long front handle anymore (while DuoTone adopted that long front, short back) Overall one main key selling point for me of the Nova v2 and v3 was their packability. Deflate, pack up, and go home. No messing with removing hard handles. This looks a bit gimmicky to me.. maybe the marketing office got the better of the riders & development team on this one. Q: is there a soft handle version available? My guess is not , because when pulling on the soft handles the shift units would pull together? They are made for pulling outward, and not gripping the rail. Let's see maybe a test WILL convince me.
Other than the boom, the wing can be packed away with the handles in place. The beauty of the system is that if you want that longer front handle again, throw a 500mm on the front and move it all the way forward and lock it down. There is two years of development on this one, and the hardest group to impress is the development team. If we don't see the point we won't continue it. Marketing team didn't even know about it until it was locked in. Soft handles are in the works, but yeah there are some quirks like you suggest.
Give it a try and you'll be a believer. Everything you like about the V2 is achievable and more. Plus, the Nova Pro is a huge improvment over the wing shape of past models so that's even more critical IMHO. Plus, you can pack it down tiny for travel when you remove the handles. Fits in any bag if you fold it properly. Could probably pack 4-5 wings in one bag if you folded nicely and vacuum bagged them :) -Tucker
Pack down is the same as any wing, the track is flexible enough to fold. We would suggest holding onto the handles and let the wing fold down wind inside out. Then roll it up from the wing tips to the strut, This way the handles remain on the outside so not rubbing against the canopy when in the bag.
Do the handle ends come off for packing or are they permanently attached to the bar? Is the 1100 mm boom the size of the bar or the size from the outside of both the handle ends? Thanks for all your great informative videos.
The handle ends are permanently attached. The length of the boom includes the handle ends, so the gripped section is 1020mm, however you can slide your hands further out to the ends of the soft well rounded TPU overmolded bar ends. The outer bar ends also feature a super comfortable thumb dimple perfectly positioned when you lock your hand into the very ends of all sizes of handle for extra lateral wing control.
Both great wings and amazing handle systems. The Nova Pro has more lift and grunt while the Slick has more upper range. Happy with both handle options but I must say the modular handles is a nice option so you can tweak it however you like. - Tucker
I bought three of them, The sizes are far larger than quoted at least compared to the Fone and Duotone but the single biggest problem is the track for the handles, I catch the end of my fingers reaching for the handle every single time, Almost ripped my nail off, couldn't find a solution so Ive handed them back. A shame really as the construction is superb and they were very stable. Just couldn't get on with the track getting in the way
Throughout the development of ShiftLock we tested with soft handle options also but we didn't come across anyone from the test team or amongst our team riders that would choose to use the soft handle option due to the downgrade in handling control and wing performance. These current ShiftLock handles that are available have soft overmolded TPU ends to prevent damage to the rider or your board.
@@hughpinfold4054 From what I see on the spots it is very personal. Like saying no one should ride strapless due to the downgrade in handling the board...

Looks awesome - love booms for one handed riding and harness use - very interested - question: does the bag extend so that you can store with the boom on in the bag?
Sadly, it does not. I typically just leave the bag open a little and let is stick out the top.

Does it pack down like most wings do, or does it pack more like a windsurfing sail would?
Pack down is the same as any wing, the track is flexible enough to fold. We would suggest holding onto the handles and let the wing fold down wind inside out. Then roll it up from the wing tips to the strut, This way the handles remain on the outside so not rubbing against the canopy when in the bag.
What Hugh said... only you'll need a longer space if you want to store it with the boom on. Or remove it of course. -Tucker

Great question, my friend. 🤙🏽 Looks like Hugh has got you dialed in. Good winds! -Aaron
hi guys, that look very interesting, what you think of it compare to Duotone sls ?

I haven't had that issue myself but I'd assume some nice armara gloves would resolve the issue if you found it was reoccurring. -Tucker
Cheers. Another great video. I like the Go Pro mount option. I won't be buying your scratch mix though...
LOL. thanks Richard
Did I hear mode ultra?!😮
Shhhhhhh
Where is the multiple soft handle option :) ? An overkill in my opinion and unnecessary.
Throughout the development of ShiftLock we tested with soft handle options also but we didn't come across anyone from the test team or amongst our team riders that would choose to use the soft handle option due to the downgrade in handling control and wing performance. Right on-thanks for sharing your opinion, my friend. 🤙🏽 Good winds! -Aaron
