great video..thanks Auto Zone! im replacing the struts and shocks from my 07 Suzuki Forenza and i rather do it myself than having another human do it..haha. but the thing i dont get is what about the spring? when i put it back on, does the car settle to the level it once was or do i have to adjust or something? im keeping it all stock btw
With that disassembly I would ask why it was done in this particular case. How often does one actually fail and how would you be able to tell? Why not just replace the shock rather than both strut and shock? Isn't the strut much more expensive to replace than the shock? Would you replace front and back at the same time if it was just a wear cycle that prompted the replacement?
+AutoZone, how, exactly, do I know if my strut is bad? My front wheels hop at 40mph and up and I hear a loud popping sound on certain bumps, as if the whole front bottoms out. It sounds like a hammer hitting a pan or something. I see no fluid or build up from leaky fluid, and I'm checking my tires all the time for uneven wear and cupping. It corners good, but the whole car vibrates at highway speeds and sometimes if I hit a bump in the road my car will start hopping and I have to slow down until it quits, then proceed. I've had my rims/tires checked out, balanced, no knots, it doesn't pull one way or the other, and the whole front end has been checked out twice. Nothing bad, not ball joints, tie rods, bushings, control arms, nothing. Its hard for me to find what it is because I have personally owned Toyota all of my 19 years of driving and in my family for years prior to that and I've only replaced the shocks on two of my old trucks after 200+K. Never replaced any other suspension or front end parts except one wheel bearing. So, I don't know what to look for... 2010 V6, Sport model RAV4. AWD. Thanks in advance.
Good information, I love how it says at the end "Be Careful with chemicals they can be harmful to the water and humans" while the guy is spraying brake cleaner all over his bare hands! Wear rubber gloves!
Bruce Bonebrake. Now *that's* a name.
haha - i had the same thought
