  • I’m pleased with the quality and function of this new Colt. In my opinion, some of their products in the 1911 world have left a few things to be desired in more recent years. Maybe I just had some bad luck. But this more than makes up for it. Beautiful bluing, flawless function and a classic representation of what the Colt 1911 is all about. I give this pistol a big “thumbs up”!
Here is a very good web resource that talks about the differences between a series 70 1911 and a series 80:

As old as the design is it is still a beautiful weapon.
The fact that the 1911 is still popular 100+ years after it was introduced proves it has stood the test of time very well.

Went looking to purchase a colt commander size 45 acp 1911 locally with no luck. The only one that I found was a 1985 vintage stainless mark 4 that was in less than good condition and a full size colt custom competition limited ss which was well above my price range $2300 plus. While pondering ways to get $2500 together being retired I found a springfield range officer target government that I ended up purchasing two days ago. It shoots as well as my Remington R1 ss or sig stx. Very happy with it, maybe a colt will be in my future someday if one becomes available for a fair price during these freedom losing times.

Came here to do research..i just inherited this very pistol... an old relative bought it in the 1980's . The 70 SERIES I hear is legendary. It's in new /mint condition, probably never fired !

I think the match barrel designation from any factory is like having Corinthian leather in your old Pontiac. It is a marketing ploy. The biggest thing is in how it’s fit to the gun. Pretty gun. Want one.

The people that say, "Use a mat." probably believe you'll damage the barrel if you clean it from the front instead of the breach. Or completely freak out if you scratch the frame with the slide lock. It's not a trophy, it's a weapon.

Colt needs to produce the 1837 Paterson revolver again. Like the 1911, it was an Army sidearm which was later replaced by more modern arms. Give the Paterson a fine finish, add nicely checkered grips, and it is sure to win the hearts of obsolete weapons fan, just as the 9111 continues to do. Despite it generally clunky appearance, as well as the equally clunky feel, and other short comings the 1911 has a strong cult-like following. Perhaps Colt could score that way with the Patterson revolver.
