    Egils,
    Can you explain the difference between natural box and trun and Closed change

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  9 років тому

      missy Thanks for your question! In Natural Box in each bar we turn turn 1/4 or 90 degree to Right. Therefore in 4 bars we turn 1 complete turn to Right. In Natural Turn we turn more than in Natural Box: 3/8 turn or 135 degrees per Bar. This is why Slow Waltz sometimes is called diagonal Waltz. Closed Change is without turn in feet. Hope it explains some differences.

    HI Iglis thank you for th video it is very easy to follow. One question, in some other instruction I have read, also some other videos. They demonstrate with the man leading with his left foot forward first, and the right foot back. What is the difference, is there a reason to lead with the left or the right?

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  8 років тому

      Hi, Artemus, thanks for your question. I start to teach with right foot forward, because Natural Box leads to Natural Turn. Natural Turn means that couple is turning to right, and that's is more easy to learn first. Only after that I teach Reverse Box, which starts with left foot forward.

    My dancing teacher taught us the zigzag walk in waltz. I didn't understand my steps as he lead me. He didn't mention the name of the walk. Could you tell me the name of the walk?

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  9 років тому +1

      watersunfish Thanks for your question. Unfortunately it is difficult to know which steps you danced. There is no such Basic figure in Waltz as Zig-Zag. If you could show some video, then it would be more easy to analyse steps. Only close idea of steps I could think of is taken from Line dance - see example here ua-cam.com/video/NDW4YgFTP3s/v-deo.html it looks something like Samba BotoFogo steps.

      You may have learned American Smooth Style waltz and may be describing progressive twinkles, which is a bronze level figure, which is danced very much like Samba Botafogos.

    I'm a bit confused, i saw another video where man started with left foot. . does it make any difference?

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  6 років тому +4

      Thanks for your question! Man starts forward with right foot when dances Natural Turn (turn to right). Man starts with forward with left foot when dances Reverse Turn (turn to left). Because it’s more easy to learn Natural Turn we usually start with it. Hope it helps.

    what about the rise and fall? Shoulder curving or waves?

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  9 років тому

      In Waltz is gradual rise and lowering. Technically we start rise at end of 1, continue on 2, 3; lower at end of 3.

    Hi Egils, why do you dance on a diagonal to the square at 45 degrees near the end of the video.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  6 років тому +1

      Thanks Anthony for your question. When we dance Natural Box then movement is along sides of square. When we dance Natural Turn we start by moving diagonally to Wall (45 degrees). Second bar we move down Line of Dance. Hope it helps
