I gotta say. I use Starlink and love it. I am in the south. I work in IT and need fast internet to work remote. Starlink has never failed me. It is fast. I stream on two tv’s, while video conferencing, and also have video cameras on HomeKit. I do not have the mounted roof top or use mobile cause I am driving and don’t need it while driving. I also don’t like roof mounted cause I can move the Starlink as needed if I am under trees. In closing, I love Starlink and it works great.
We have been using the Starlink for a year. Love it. Won’t go without. That being said we still run with an old school att just in case. We haven’t used the att since.
We live "in the middle of nowhere" in Canada (surrounded bt trees) with no cell service at our home. About two weeks ago we switched from our rural point-to-point internet service to Starlink Gen3. I have bypassed the internal Wi-Fi router (easy to do) and use our own network. I put the Starlink dish on a pole which has given it a pretty clear view of the sky. So far, we are seeing speeds similar to your tests. Typically 160/20, but as you mentioned, there are definitely fluctuations. A game changer for us! At this point, we don't RV enough to justify the cost of the Starlink mobile plan. Thanks for the video.
FYI, You don’t need the performance model to use Starlink while driving down the road. I have a V3, and a Mini and use both in motion. You just need the right plan :)
@@60Airflyte The mini dish using the roaming regional plan for $150 is all you need for camping. The mini is only slightly larger than a sheet of paper and doesn't require separate modem to take up space because it's built into the dish itself.
I've had starlink for almost three years and think it is fantastic and worth every penny. I use flagpole buddy with two segments most of the time with an extra four foot pole segment when in a wooded area and that seems to work to overcome any obstructions.
Starlink Fan, So far Starlink has not failed us, it's been very reliable even in areas were trees are at. I have the Gen 3 Standard kit, with the Roam Mobile $150 a month service package with the ability to pause. I use a ladder mount for the dish but also will use the kickstand if need to. . Also did a permanent mount inside the coach for the router and power supply.
Love my Starlink. Speed improved greatly when I upgraded from Gen 2 to the Gen 3. Just recently Starlink offered a great deal on the monthly service. If you paid for 3 months of service up front ($450) you got 6 months of service to use at anytime in the future. That is a 50% savings. I hooked up immediately since you can turn the service on and off as needed to suit your travel schedule. I’m a fanboy!
We are full time and have been using Starlink for more than 2 years now. We have only had 1 time we couldn’t get service. We were also parked under a heavy tree cover. Other than that we haven’t had any issues During this time we also had virtually no cellular service

a couple of my friends have starlink for their home, and theyre all gamers. i do plan on being full time on the road some day, and the internet is very important to me, so i plan on just building my own router, something that can combine multiple different internet sources, from public/friends wifi or wired directly into their own internet, to mobile data and starlink, or whatever competition they have when i hit the road. i will have 1-3 wireless networks and i will drop ethernet everywhere i can, because its easier, more reliable, and you dont have to run just internet - you can run video, audio, power and even USB through those same wires as well as data
same here LOVE my SL, I will say that at times in a wooded area we did not have signal. But hey.. at times I dont even have cell service. You will see a difference with dishy, on a pole. Extend that way high in a wooded area and you will be amazed. I also love the fact we can pause the service when not using the service at no extra fee.

We have been full time 6 years used Verizon hot spot until July 2023 than went to star link. Star link is great , we are out west so obstructions have not been an issue. We still have phone hotspots while we are driving.
We have had Starlink for 3 years. When they put the option of "flat" instead od "stow" or. "auto" we put it in flat and run down the road. We have a class c and have signal most of the time. WE LOVE IT!

Starlink rocks x 2.5 years.... and our Canada / USA / Mexico cell plan ( Rogers / ATT&T / TELCEL) has also worked great for us.... currently rocking the Gen2 Starlink, we won't even think about a roof mount until we upgrade "one day" to Gen3 or greater our pole mount works awesome to keep it off the ground and away from campground hazards.
Our new 5er came with Travlfi. So far since January we've been from Massachusetts to Florida and its been flawless. It utilizes major networks for the best signal. At&t, Tmobile/Sprint, & Verizon. Its also pay as you go by the month with no cost to reactivate. Its also wired 12v so its always on and works as we drive. 5 phones, 3 TVs streaming and a couple of laptops with no issues.
We got the SL Mini. Run it directly off of DC voltage. We cancelled our $215/mo cable home internet and we are using our Mini on the $150/mo plan. One week in and No issues. Saving money and we can take the mini with us on our RV travels. Retired last Sept, enjoy your future retirement.
So im full time and I use starlink daily for my full time job as well as my wife's. I also back it up with cellular, neither is 100% perfect, I have mine setup with a peplink and bond the cellular and starlink. Bonded together its rock solid. Because internet so important we try to pick non wooded sites for the best starlink experience and so far its working great for us. FWIW i have the gen 2 articulating dish and i either use the included ground stand or it goes on a flagpole buddy pole on the ladder.
I know it’s different for everyone, but Starlink has worked extremely well for me. Last year we went north to Fairbanks, AK and never had an issue. I understand the issue with obstructions, and occasionally have to take that into account. There are going to be good and bad bits in any solution.
We have Starlink at home for $120 a month then a month ago we bought the Starlink mini for a $30 add on to our account. The mini has worked great even with obstructions, speeds anywhere from 40 to 190 and for us being in areas that have zero cell service this is perfect. From what I’ve read the mini can be mounted and used while traveling however I can’t speak to that because we don’t need it while moving.

Starlink works great, we use it when ever we have no cell service, which happens more that it should. Starlink it the only solution in several locations. Pause the service when you don't need it.
First , I am NOT a tech guy. I drive a 22 year old car, I don’t have satellite or cable at home. I do have internet and stream most things I want to see but that’s it. We travel a minimum of 15K a year in our motorhome, mostly west of the Mississippi. We only use a mobile hotspot, are retired, and travel in remote Wyoming, Montana, etc., sometimes ZERO SIGNAL. But We are ok with that. We recently traveled with another couple who have Starlink. We experimented with their system, and we could piggyback off them even if camped 80 feet away. It worked well. Because we don’t NEED to be connected or have high speed, I don’t see a time we will ever get Starlink. However we were extremely impressed with the system and how well it worked and can see the benefits. Cheers.
I just permanently flat mounted mine (V3)on my Bluebird. It give me plenty of speed for "normal" streaming even in motion. It doesn't get optimal since its not always aligned and will only get better with more satellites launched.
I had a bad location with Starlink and let it run overnight on a 25’ ladder mounted pole and by morning it had a fairly good signal figured out if you would like I took a pic and would send it to you
Trees and buildings can be a problem obstruction wise but Starlink works. I've had two campsites in NFS campgrounds in Colorado that had partial tall tree obstruction but Dishy was able to connect and work albeit a bit slow. At Custer State Park, Gamelodge Campground, the trailer was partially shaded but I was able to put Dishy in a clear spot where it had no obstructions and it worked flawlessly. I have the Gen 2 Standard dish that has the motors so after initial alignment to North, which seems to be crucial, it starts searching for satellites. Picking the "right campsite" will be the main thing now.
Very interesting real-world experience, thank you for this. Always good to have redundancies. We're not techies and don't have a need for high-speed internet. That said, when we bought our coach, we had Dish Satellite installed. We have not used it much at all because most of the campsites we've been in have had a lot of obstructions, so it would be the same for a Starlink setup. We use the hotspot functions built into our phones, which admittedly many times is quite limited, depending on the location.
Seriously, your cellular network is named Starlink Sucks. OMG that is so funny. Also, the Starlink network is named Starlinksgreat. How appropriate. 😂 We use T-Mobile, but I will be getting the AT&T soon just for the RV.

Ha! They called me Mr. Starlink when I bought mine at Best Buy. Peacock walking for sure! Being East-Coasters as well, there are many trees in the way. I’ve had decent luck, but obstructions are a problem. The pole mount should give you some options. We don’t have a ladder on the back, so I’m looking for a hitch-attached, pole mount. I’ll have to look into the cheetah. We have the terrible Wineguard on the roof, but I’m not sure that does anything. I’ve tried to use it, but it’s never worked. When parked without obstructions, Starlink is king, but redundancy is best.
I dont know if it is worth it for us right now as we have home internet what i really need is a recommendation for an editing program that is not overly complicated . I grew up using rorary dial phones on a party line our ring was two longs and a short
We bought the V2 kit in February and used it from Florida through West Texas,Utah and back to Long Island until June and we could not have been happier, We found extraordinary performance even when our Dish could not receive a signal. Our unit has a stand that enables the unit to automatically seek the best orientation. With the “kick stand” do you use the app to check the sky for best position?
Starlink, It's good enough, in Alaska. Yep take a look at satellite map in the northern atmosphere. We have a few up here, and good enough for me to ditch my cable internet! Like you, I need mobility. So far so good, with minimal disappointments. (Saving $50 a month also) I have found true north view is a must, and a little east and west, makes the speed comfortable. Again way up here. 65 degree Latitude.
I believe I heard you say that you have Starlink for 150/month their mobile package. I was wondering if you knew you could switch to the standard plan and still be able to use it. Starlink allows you to move your address (while using the Starlink itself) as often as you want, similar to how you pause / resume it now. It takes effect in minutes. You would save 30/ month. You get faster (prioritized data). The only thing you would loose is the ability to pause it and you are always on the road so unlikely. Also you might consider looking into pepwave routers; even if you use the other internet providers like Chester or whatever its name was you can connect multiple internet sources including Starlink in front of the pepwave and then only need to use one single WiFi and not have to switch all your devices around. Try to decide what to get hate putting holes in roof for any. We can not afford big set up need way for my wife to be on a zoom meeting and get phone calls for work. Some State parks just have no cell coverage. But 299.00 to 500.0 set cost then 150.00 a month is really high. But may be only option.
Remember first net gets top priority, I find our att giving us trash service due to congestion often...even in rural areas. SL is almost always superior..just pick the most open northern sky
Love your channel. Always informative. May I point out that your use of the word "coverage" to many people means RF coverage or radio signal coverage, meaning the more coverage the better. However, you're using the word to mean tree or obstacle coverage which interferes with signal reception. I think to most listeners, "coverage", would imply radio signal coverage and not radio signal interference. My two cents. You may think you're communicating when you're not.
I use the Chester Cheetah and it works great even without the antenna on the roof. However, this week we are going to install the Parsec Husky antenna on the roof. We will see how it performs. So far, I didn’t need Starlink.
Starlink is great, just can't justify the cost at the moment. We're weekenders at best, and no job related rationale for it. Currently using a 4G Peplink mini stuffed into a Winegard router case that's ceiling mounted and patched into the rooftop antenna and 12V. It's got a Verizon sim in it, but I'm usually patched into park wifi as a primary connection. Haven't needed the bonding feature, but it's an option. I also have a second sim slot for another provider, and a LAN port to patch in a Starlink dish if needed. Last weekend we were at a campground in NW Alabama with many reports of crappy Verizon service. I was getting 4/5 bars and enough speed for the usual - streaming on 2 tv's plus light laptop use. Phones inside the camper were getting 1-2 bars. The Winegard 360+ rooftop antenna works good, it's just their router sucks.
I have Starlink and the Roam plan. My speeds are usually 15-60mbps but there's a lot of times where while streaming TV, there's that dreaded spinning circle so it's not very good for what I'm paying for. I'm looking for something that works better. For those that think it's the best thing since sliced bread or it's your only option, that's great. I'm happy for you that you have a solution. It's just not that great for me.
Seems hardly a week goes by that I do not see one or two launches of another 20ish Starlink satellites so I have to guess it will continue to get better. I wonder if you could get the antenna up say 20 or 25 feet in areas with foliage if that might be enough to get a signal.
We're not going to mount the Starlink on "here". Does that mean a new "here" (new class A) is in your near future? Saw something at Hersey you couldn't pass up? Lol.

Starlink is really annoying at prebooked campgrounds. You're stuck in the spot you booked or were assigned to and maybe starlink works great, maybe it's worthless while you're looking at a spot down the way where it'd work. It works a lot better dispersed camping where you can skip sites where it won't work. It works way better partially obstructed than it used to.
I wish I had starlink or even a good cell plan that would work, However being on disability I have a strict budjet to work with. Just cant afford Starlink. heck would not even beable to buy the equipment for it.
We have been disappointed with cell service across America. When one goes out west cell services get useless in alot of areas. Starlink works for us. Not all of us need internet like others.
Be very careful with your new rig purchase; you don't want to get stuck with one of those low quality frauds manufacturers are putting out. It would even be a good idea to hang onto Nelly just in case the new rig is a major defect.
I bought the Gen 3 at Home Depot this week. We plan to use it at home + in the motorhome in our short trips + in the Montana Fifth wheel on long trips. I will let you know how it performs - really looking forward to this.

We have starlink, version 1 and since day 1 it has been great. We couldn't full time without it. Hope yours works as well as for you.
Star Link Mini works great for me. It takes all of 2 minutes to deploy and has its own WiFi router.

There are a few nuances to learn to get the best out of Starlink. Obstructions can be tricky

we have the gen 3 Starlink. Only have had one issue with starlink and that was because of the heavy tree coverage around us.
Never an issue with our Starlink. We use it everywhere , even with lots of trees.
We bought the V2 kit in February and used it from Florida through West Texas,Utah and back to Long Island until June and we could not have been happier, We found extraordinary performance even when our Dish could not receive a signal.
Our unit has a stand that enables the unit to automatically seek the best orientation. With the “kick stand” do you use the app to check the sky for best position?

Starlink, It's good enough, in Alaska. Yep take a look at satellite map in the northern atmosphere. We have a few up here, and good enough for me to ditch my cable internet! Like you, I need mobility. So far so good, with minimal disappointments. (Saving $50 a month also) I have found true north view is a must, and a little east and west, makes the speed comfortable. Again way up here. 65 degree Latitude.
Clear northern sky is essential for Starlink connection. If you have too much tree interference, it won't connect.
I believe I heard you say that you have Starlink for 150/month their mobile package. I was wondering if you knew you could switch to the standard plan and still be able to use it. Starlink allows you to move your address (while using the Starlink itself) as often as you want, similar to how you pause / resume it now. It takes effect in minutes. You would save 30/ month. You get faster (prioritized data). The only thing you would loose is the ability to pause it and you are always on the road so unlikely. Also you might consider looking into pepwave routers; even if you use the other internet providers like Chester or whatever its name was you can connect multiple internet sources including Starlink in front of the pepwave and then only need to use one single WiFi and not have to switch all your devices around. We use T-mobile RV/Mobile internet. It's always worked well, so far, anyway.
Try to decide what to get hate putting holes in roof for any. We can not afford big set up need way for my wife to be on a zoom meeting and get phone calls for work. Some State parks just have no cell coverage. But 299.00 to 500.0 set cost then 150.00 a month is really high. But may be only option.
Question: What Plan do I need to use to use at the house AND at campsites across the US. Not to use while driving down the road?

Remember first net gets top priority, I find our att giving us trash service due to congestion often...even in rural areas. SL is almost always superior..just pick the most open northern sky

Love your channel. Always informative. May I point out that your use of the word "coverage" to many people means RF coverage or radio signal coverage, meaning the more coverage the better. However, you're using the word to mean tree or obstacle coverage which interferes with signal reception. I think to most listeners, "coverage", would imply radio signal coverage and not radio signal interference. My two cents. You may think you're communicating when you're not.
I use the Chester Cheetah and it works great even without the antenna on the roof. However, this week we are going to install the Parsec Husky antenna on the roof. We will see how it performs. So far, I didn’t need Starlink.
It will work much better with the antenna
Starlink is great, just can't justify the cost at the moment. We're weekenders at best, and no job related rationale for it. Currently using a 4G Peplink mini stuffed into a Winegard router case that's ceiling mounted and patched into the rooftop antenna and 12V. It's got a Verizon sim in it, but I'm usually patched into park wifi as a primary connection. Haven't needed the bonding feature, but it's an option. I also have a second sim slot for another provider, and a LAN port to patch in a Starlink dish if needed. Last weekend we were at a campground in NW Alabama with many reports of crappy Verizon service. I was getting 4/5 bars and enough speed for the usual - streaming on 2 tv's plus light laptop use. Phones inside the camper were getting 1-2 bars. The Winegard 360+ rooftop antenna works good, it's just their router sucks.

I have Starlink and the Roam plan. My speeds are usually 15-60mbps but there's a lot of times where while streaming TV, there's that dreaded spinning circle so it's not very good for what I'm paying for. I'm looking for something that works better. For those that think it's the best thing since sliced bread or it's your only option, that's great. I'm happy for you that you have a solution. It's just not that great for me.

Seems hardly a week goes by that I do not see one or two launches of another 20ish Starlink satellites so I have to guess it will continue to get better. I wonder if you could get the antenna up say 20 or 25 feet in areas with foliage if that might be enough to get a signal.

Starlink is really annoying at prebooked campgrounds. You're stuck in the spot you booked or were assigned to and maybe starlink works great, maybe it's worthless while you're looking at a spot down the way where it'd work. It works a lot better dispersed camping where you can skip sites where it won't work.
It works way better partially obstructed than it used to.
I wish I had starlink or even a good cell plan that would work, However being on disability I have a strict budjet to work with. Just cant afford Starlink. heck would not even beable to buy the equipment for it.
What happens if you have rain or storms in area?
Bad weather does also affect Starlink. We had ours go out during thunder storms
We have been disappointed with cell service across America. When one goes out west cell services get useless in alot of areas. Starlink works for us. Not all of us need internet like others.

Be very careful with your new rig purchase; you don't want to get stuck with one of those low quality frauds manufacturers are putting out.
It would even be a good idea to hang onto Nelly just in case the new rig is a major defect.

I bought the Gen 3 at Home Depot this week. We plan to use it at home + in the motorhome in our short trips + in the Montana Fifth wheel on long trips. I will let you know how it performs - really looking forward to this.
