Liam can really rock a smokey eye just sayin...
It’s seems fitting. It suits their personalities so well. Marisha, Liam and Laura are absolutely the most likely to form a punk band while Matt, Travis and Sam are the kind of relatives that only attend family funerals and no other family function.

The DM-ing style really shows off their personalities: Goth/horror is Taliesin, and "cute/funny mobster bears steal honey" is Marisha. It's perfect. (and, of course, 400-hour-long-epic-fantasy seems like Mercer)
Also Travis - a really dumb (those room shapes...) and fun but at the same time two layer game.
And Liam, surreal/dreamlike.
And then there's Sam's general chaos and and often times glorious inappropriateness
And now Laura, who is just all references and laughs.

I'm not familiar with the rules of Vampires, can someone explain how a vampire doing exceptionally well on a 'wits and willpower' check makes you do the complete opposite of what exceptionally well on what those two words mean regarding survival as a vampire? It just seemed to me like rolling an D&D athletics check on jumping over lava, getting a nat 19 as a monk for a total of 30 and that meaning you dive headfirst into it, sink to the bottom and die.

Taliesen already stated that it won't help them in anything before he put it on, but Matt still decided to put it on, whether that be an aesthetic thing or rather him still thinking that it might help him somehow.
Taliesin looked so nervous, he was very professional at covering up. DMing is so hard, but I can't even imagine doing it in front of the Critical Role audience.
honestly i think DMing for Matt has to be the worst feeling ever. You know you cant do better but you have to try, and you only can believe he is nice enough not to judge.

Agreed. Creepy for the first 10 minutes, and made me lose my mind a little bit more every time after. Got to the point where it was like nails on a chalkboard for me.

That’s the one thing I dislike about syrinscape: the repetition of voice sounds. My party uses syrinscape for our adventures and our last session was a heist at a fancy party. About 2 hours in I was ready to stab someone if it meant getting the guy on the sound thingy to STOP LAUGHING EVERY COUPLE MINUTES. Unfortunately the DM thought it was funny that I hated the laughter so he kept it on (albeit softer, he’s not evil, just chaotic)

As I recall, in an interview Matt and Marisha said they really wanted to participate in this game; so Taliesen told them to start doing stupid stuff when they needed to get ready to leave.

DeluxeTux5249 It's a musical that has been super popular for the last four years (the cast constantly made references during the vox machine campaign) It's is really good, the tickets are VERY expensive and hard to get a hold of. If you have a chance I recommend listening to the cast recording it's worth the listen. Should be on yt

So from what I understand:
What happened basically is Gary Gygax is actually an extremely powerful vampire and massive undead fan of Critical Role. He then chooses to financially stake and immortalize the show (literally) through Geek and Sundry by taking over the the building, turning the critical Role cast into Vampires, and setting up a real life DnD "larp" through their studio with REAL danger.
The game the cast are "playing" is themed after a real life, notorious Gygax game module based around Alice in Wonderland, an adventure infamous for being a character grinder (I.E. lots of PC deaths), which is a fact that, ironically, Vampire Gary does not take into account when the cast actually plays.
However, despite Gary's lack of foresight, things do go awry beyond what he had planned. The other aspect of the situation is, apparently, some of the staff at the Geek and Sundry building were undead all along, and this causes further problems (werewolves were not part of Gary's plan).
I'm sure there's alot more I'm missing, but feel free to correct me or add-on to this thread.

@@LeDameMarciana I am only an hour and a half in so far, but apart from the kinds of rolls they're being asked to make (attribute + ability), what sounds like some early implementations of Disciplines (vtm vampire powers), and the general "you've been mugged and wake up a vampire" premise, this sounds nothing like any VtM game I've ever played, read about or seen in 18 years of knowing the system.
Guess you could say he took a hit man and didn't expect the dead rising 😎
@@LeDameMarciana the VtM V5 Corebook lists the CR cast as play testers, and this came out before the book, so it's probably VtM V5.

Me, who researched that for an RP last year: Cameras and mirrors used to be made with silver or include silver in it's image capturing mechanics. Silver, being a typically 'pure/holy' material, wouldn't interact with undead like vampires and therefore wouldn't show them at all.
Modern technology has no silver in it, neither do the mirrors. Vampires can be seen just fine in newer stuff. >:3

Interesting but not true, that’s a modern combination of two different myths :/ The no reflections came from the idea that they had no souls, and mirrors reflect the soul. They were believed to not reflect in ANYTHING, silver or not-and for the same reason, they had no shadows. Modern media tends to not want to confirm the idea that souls exist in their world building because of the religious complications, so the idea got bundled in with the idea of silver repelling evil.
@@InkdarkMage I mean, VTM is relatively explicit that vampires have souls with how diablerie works and there are all sorts of spirits and stuff.
Really, I think media where the supernatural and death are heavily dealt with and the question of the existence of souls is shyed away from are the exception rather than the norm.
Modern technology including things like computers and other electronics use silver and gold so who knows if such devices could perceive them even with your theory.
VtM specifically the Lasombra don't reflect in mirrors. On film/digital they look like a glitchy monster. The other clans just look normal.

Taliesin saying, "Rocky!" when they were all calling for each other made this for me at only 24 minutes in. Gotta love the Rocky Horror props. Also, the fact I'm seeing Morbius ads makes this even more fun.

「B I T E S Z A D U S T O」 goth is traditionally a cross between really fancy and dark. Think vampire Lestat in Interview With A Vampire, only a bit darker. There are goth sub genres (cringe) including cyber goth, candy goth, nerd goth, et al. Laura and Travis aren't really goth here at all. Laura is more of a light punk and Travis is basically a normal guy that thought wearing black and eyeliner is goth.

Chop off the vampires head. Destroy it's phylacetery. Stuff the vampires head with holy wafers. Then put the vampires head in a bucket full of Holy Water. Then Seal the Bucket of Holy Water.
These are all technically ways to kill a vampire: cut off it’s head, stake it’s heart, burn it in sunlight, or through holy consecration
Cut off his head? Well that’s step one, what about two through ten?

I love that Matt needed convincing to eat the rat. Like he wouldn't do it unless he HAD to cuz it was a happy rat who was excited to play with him.
I think that is also a specific trait of the aristocratic vampire types in VtM, they resent feeding from animals and they can't get the full benefits from them
