Thanks for showing us this. Letting the glue dry for five minutes, then applying dry paper and ironing it, using parchment paper to create a barrier, really helps with wrinkles. I wasn't able to be wrinkle free without tearing Kraft wrapping paper until I stopped wetting it and used the iron method and then let it all dry for 24 hours before adding sealant layers, allowing recommended coat drying time.

A couple of suggestions: when you put wallpaper up you roll it up with the TOP of the piece to be applied on the outside of the roll. When you take the roll out of the water stand it vertically to let it drain.
Then you can easily line up the first part of the roll with your edge. Then slowly and gently unroll some more paper and smooth it into place. There are bespoke sponges for this or you can pat it down with your hand.
Keep a small, barely damp rag to wipe off excess glop from the sides
ALWAYS wipe downwards with a very light touch.
I thought your final product looked lovely.

Thank-you. I'm preparing to turn a wooden stool I found at the trash, into a boho plant stand, using gift wrap & tassels. I could hear you perfectly and your table is lovely. I think the idea of wetting the gift wrap to make it more pliable, will be very helpful, since I'll be wrapping rounded, dowel legs and braces.

I've learned that it doesn't matter if you cut the paper to fit the area perfectly. Once you get the paper wet it expands a little bit and becomes bigger.

Wow. When I first watched this, and saw you dunking the paper into water, my brain said, "No... that can't be a good idea. Surely it would be easier to do it with dry paper." My brain was soooo wrong! I first tried dry, then ripped the paper after trying to get wrinkles out for about ten minutes. In my despair, I tried your wet method. SO MUCH EASIER! Thank you!

Thank you so much. I had an old, beat-up dresser that I wanted to make over for a little girl and for some reason I thought it would look cool if I decoupaged the front of the drawers. I had no experience and most of the videos online covered furniture with things like scrap booking paper and wall paper by simply gluing them on with mod podge and coating over the top. But since I live in a small town and none of the shops sell scrap booking paper or wall paper, I thought I'd buy some wrapping paper instead. When I got home, I cut the paper to size, slopped on some mod podge and tried to glue the paper straight on to the drawers, just like the videos showed. But of course, much to my dismay, the paper wrinkled horribly. I continued a few more times, thinking that it may just be my lack of skill, but each time I was forced to scrap it and sand back the drawer once again. Finally I did a google search and worked out that reason the wrapping paper was wrinkling was because it was too thin and was sopping up all the glue. The paper that the people in the videos used was much thicker which is why they seemed to be more successful than I was. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed, as I really liked the pattern on the gift wrap and I knew it would take more time and money to order in new paper from online. Luckily, I found your video just as I was about to give up! I didn't think it would work at first, but decided I'd give it one more try. I soaked the paper before gluing it on and I was instantly amazed. I just finished the dresser a few hours ago and I think it looks great :-)

I have worked with Mod Podge and PVA. I find Mod Podge drys quite quick, which has it's benefits, but can be frustrating if you are painting a table top with it. Adding some water in the Mod Podge will help.

One of the best videos on decoupaging and let me tell you it wasn't just the decoupaging that I was watching, I was looking at you and adirming your sweet face, you look like a porcelain doll ;) But to be honest altho your voice is so soft and lovely for avideo it is a wee bit too low. it is a wee bit low., and I must admit I couldn't hear you properly. Just make sure your next video is louder. I dont think it's a bad thing to let someone know, and perhaps they'll appreciate you for it 'cause based on voice you can lose a lot of viewers. So it's ok I guess to say so it's not like we are criticizing you not at all. Bless you and thanks for the video, this was very informative and one of the best and easiest, or perhaps it's you that makes it look easy ;) Great job on your table and very inspiring.

Jen Evans PVA is much much cheaper than modge podge. Like modge podge, it dries clear. In the UK it's also known as school glue, so perhaps you also know it as something else.

    • @Alexandra_Hill
      @Alexandra_Hill 5 років тому +2

MiaSchu Americans would know it as Elmer’s glue, I use mod podge now but used pva when I first started decoupage. MP dries a lot quicker than the pva and water mix, which is great for beginners and some prefer it to MP.

I think the idea was to turn the paper into cloth like material since it isn't actual decoupage paper which can be expensive at the size. I've seen people do decoupage with napkins, cloth, newspaper etc as an inexpensive way to decorate. I could be wrong though 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @bamtilly8868

Hello, if your using postcards you can just put pure pva on the back of the postcard.
Then just seal with pure pva, because the postcards are rigid and thick they won't bubble! Hope this helps, any other questions just ask.

Hay, it would but I wouldn't wet the pages. I'd put the PVA (a little watered down) directly onto the table then lay the pages on top.
Use dry hands to smooth the pages over.
When it's dry cover the whole thing with pure PVA (that isn't watered down) that should work just fine! Then once dry you can seal in any varnish you choose.
      Hope this helps x
