That was a mind blower Andy. The straight into an amp sound was killer. In spite of being 76 my music is far from anything Americana as you can get. You just can not beat analog verb even if it is a mic in a real room.

Sounds great as a straightforward spring verb, the Light pedal by GCA is also lovely. I just wish there could be a stereo version of a real analog spring verb pedal.

Setup idea: -Boss DM-2W dry out into Reverb -Reverb with kill dry engaged into Dunlop mini volume pedal -Dunlop expression out to DM-2W rate input -Dunlop output and DM-2W wet output into JHS summing box Heel down gives you a small reverb mix with a short delay time, and heel up is a bigger reverb mix with a longer delay time. Delay and reverb are in parallel. Does this seem cool?
I dunno, Andy. Traditionally, the quality of a spring pan was a function of a) the number of springs involved, and b) the *length* of the springs. Look through back issues of electronics mags from the '60s, and there were projects for car reverb units to make your car radio sound bigger (or your car turntable, if you were that adventurous), using a single short spring. The caveat was that if they could *fit* in a box, they *sounded* like a box. If a box was what you wanted, great, but it was not what most of us wanted. I have a Fender Champion 110 amp that uses a small-ish spring pan, not much bigger than the EF-P2, and it's not something I want to use very often, if at all. Yes, it sounds like reverb, but so does the bathroom and stairwell at work, and neither have more than a very small niche of possible applications. Can EQ and pre-drive tone shaping remove some of the box-i-ness? Probably. But it can't yield the larger number and complexity of reflections that come with using multiple longer springs. I'm assuming that Echo Fix is using a bit of feedback from pan-output back to input to lengthen decay time. Even IF they had springs custom-built for them, there's only so much you can get out of springs that short. Keep in mind that reverb time is a function of spring length. But they did an acceptable job within the limitations they set for themselves. That said, I experimented several years back with an entirely DIY spring reverb, using springs I bought at Home Depot, some "crystal" phone-mic cartridges (i.e. piezo discs) as receivers, and some small "deconed" speakers as driver, and it sounded decent, although it was a rather informal prototype. I'll get back to it and formalize/improve it, using one or more small "exciter" drivers I got from Parts Express, and multiple springs under varying degrees of tension. I've also explored use of Y-shaped spring arrangements, in which the driver wiggles a common spring, which then branches out o two more, for a longer spring line, again with two different degrees of tension/damping. It will NOT fit inside any stomp-sized enclosure, but then "compact" is not the goal - SOUND is.

Does anyone have any experience touring with a pedal like this? I just get a bit worried about the durability of a pedal with a reverb tank in it. I'm on the road a fair bit - in and out of airports and was wondering how it would hold up on the road. Any insight would be appreciated!
Totally valid concerns, I'd think of all the combo amps with reverb tanks have been carted around the world for decades. The tank inside the pedal is actual quite robust and designed not to bounce or splash when stepped on over and over. So I personally wouldn't worry about taking it to gigs but you can always chat with the folks at EchoFix if you have further technical questions. Thanks!
I’m no circuit designer but if it were a drippy reverb like the Fender, it wouldn’t sound great in a studio application (drums, vocal etc). When I talked to Benson about their Tall Bird rack spring, he said he didn’t want it to drip either. Not a missed opportunity, just a design preference. Thanks!

to make a pedal stereo usually means putting two of the circuit in the same enclosure. that doesnt work with a spring reverb
