- Highlights Balayage Bleaching Technique Base Bump And Toner | Lived In Blond Hair
In this weeks episode of The Life Of Hair we look at how to best utilise highlights and some freehand balayage techniques to create a beautiful bright blonde hair colour.
This hair had not been maintained for well over a year due to the current circumstances that the world has been facing but previous to that it was a Balayage that the client didn’t particularly enjoy having because it wasn’t as bright and as blonde as she was used to. so it was time for a total rehaul this was an incredibly long technique so I hope you enjoy some of the tips and tricks are used base breaking / base bumping techniques and toning techniques to increase the blend and reduce the contrast at the root area giving the client a beautiful bright blonde end result.

I can relate to weave fatigue and Beautifully done 💗
Yes absolutely we fatigue is not something that everybody talks about but concentrating for the period of time that we have to concentrate for can sometimes be mentally and physically draining
You make everything look easy-peasy lemon squeezey😁🍋🍋🍋
Super seamless! Great work.
Absolute beautiful jedi👏🏼 and only 75000 foils😉😳 I know all about that 🙄 start off all guns blazing and then.... foil 65000 and I want to run for the hills Screaming 😫😳😂 brilliant work as always thank you so much 👍🥇
☑️Weave fatigue

Wonderful thank you very much glad you enjoyed my explicit exclamation see you on the next one all the best J
I hate base bumping bc it always comes back warm. Even w products that apparently “stop” and are “cool” after a level or level and a half lift it’s orange city when they come back in a few weeks. I just highlight really close together over the top and the face frame. we sell Kerastase and Oribe, and I put a drop of purple direct dye in the shampoo and conditioner i sell. I like the condition and the tone way more now of my clients.
Yes I do understand what you’re saying I think in my experience they are when you are pumping the base if you are very careful and only use a very low peroxide when pumping the base I don’t experience too much warmth on the return of the client the times when I have seen this happen it Is generally because I have use hyperoxide about 10 volume or I have overprocessed the best breaker I find that if you leave it on for A maximum of 6/7 minutes and really watch it in that time you can You will get away with out having an extremely warm colour on their return however what I will say is if the base is very dark five or darker you do need to be a little bit mindful of getting warm results on their return and I would say that if you’re going to do a bass breaker on darker hair types you want to be leaving it on for less time and I suggested above maybe some of these tips to help you I appreciate you already have a solution but I think bass breaking is still invaluable technique to have in the bag thanks for coming all the best James

Beautiful!!! What base breaker are you using plz?? Looks fantastic xx
Hi Adele unfortunately I can’t talk about the products that I’m using to
Break the base in this video yet because it is not to market but what it is I will make a video all about it thanks very much all the best James
Love your channel!
Thank you Catherine ✌🏻
Beautiful 😃Thanks for always breaking things down so that we can understand it.
One question, you use 1,8% and olaplex on the ends.If you have to bump up the developer by 10% with olaplex how does this work?
I like to add Olaplex into my semis at the end,and I’m also unsure about the developer then.
Also,I’m always worried to use my straightening iron on freshly bleached hair. How do you prepare the hair for the styling?
Great glad you enjoyed the video! So in terms of using 1.8% and Olaplex I never bump my peroxide I just follow the new guidelines the new guidelines are to use one 16th of Olaplax And this mixing ratio doesn’t affect the lift In my experience. I do also add it to my Demi and semipermanent from time to time as well but mainly just apply to the beach. In terms of preparing the hair for heat styling I tend to always use a heat defence product and a product that has got some protein in it for added strength. Hope this helps all the best James
“Bleach it once it’s blonde. Bleach it twice it’s gone”
Not entirely, but a good reminder to always use caution
Well said MrsL......I have a dark level 4 (Asian hair) bleach my hair twice, first time for 40 minutes to break down most of the red/orange/bright yellow pigments which leaves me with a very warm level 7~8, wash, dry then start the 2nd lightening process for 30 minutes only to end up with a light yellow level 9 which i then smother in my Olaplex #1 and #2 before gently shampooing (ready for toning).......I always used Blondme & 20 volume for perfect results on myself every time.
Hi James, beautiful work as always..
I have been following you for quite a while and find so many of your videos helpful. So thank you. I do have a question if that's OK.
When your foiling here I see you go straight up the sides and all the way up. Do you need the clients deffinate parting for this to work.
If the client moves their parting etc, will this still look good?
I usually go up both sides horizontal or vertical, depending on the situation. But always foil horizontal from the crown forward to the hairline. Making sure that the parting is included in this section.
What do you think about trying your way regarding the parting.
Look forward to hearing from you ❤️
Nice job James. Didn you say what you bumpt the base with and the tonor? Maybe I never caught it. Very nice result.
Hi Joan thank you very much, No I didn’t say what a bump the base with because the product is Not on the market yet and I can’t talk about it. I told with Redken SEQ 09N on the roots & 010N plus a small amount of 09G for the ends
Weave fatigue...my god how we suffer lol . 💚
How much did you charge?
Exist a chart with the real natural hair colors? Like real natural level 7,8,9....
Not in my experience I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything made of real natural hair
