    This is my friend's second Kindle. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxOnUR4NaproSbBbD2sdI4XcDZ58Jz8GOx The first one which is about 5 or 6 years old quit charging because the bottom connector went bad. When I saw they upgraded to a USB C connector I knew it was time. I think the old USB Micro connectors are a PIA. Her new one is great. It synced right out of the box and connected to WiFi immediately. The thing is perfect! Sooo mine will arrive tomorrow. (Been reading off an old Fire) What bugs me are the reviewers that give this product one star because it didn't work out of the box or they were too dumb to figure it out. If it doesn't work send it back and get another one. It couldn't be easier with Amazon. Giving it one star because it didn't work says nothing about a good one that does work. I bet a bad one is one in a thousand or more. Give it a break...just get another one.

    I have a kindle scribe and with the recent excessive remarkable advertising I thought I’d trial the remarkable. I found the remarkable a nice paper feel but the back light on the kindle is a deal breaker. I like reading and writing in bed and to be able to do that without putting the room light on and getting the evil eye from my sleepy partner is a deal breaker. Remarkable does have more paper choice like sheet music paper but I’ll never use half the options. All in all the remarkable has more options but the Kindle has enough choice for pens, note taking and planning for a variety of tasks, and is also an enjoyable experience to write with in all lighting conditions. If remarkable had a back light I might have another go.

    I've owned both and for me prefer the Kindle Scribe. I use for note taking/reading 50/50% and the lack of being able to read on the Remarkable is a deal breaker for me. Maybe some can download books on the Remarkable but if you do read the Scribe is hard to beat.

      I just did the same few days ago. The only (really the only) thing I less like about the Scribe is the greater distance between where you put the nib and where you actually see the ink. This distance is nearly zero in the reMarkable, thing I love. On the Scribe is not zero... but ok, I got used to it very fast, and overall the experience is great. Higher resolution, much much faster and smooth device, the new pencils work like charm, I use the backlight to read in bed before sleep. Yes, up to some extent the Scribe feels more "cheap". But I think with the coming software updates it will become an amazing device (which yet it is so, in my opinion).

      @tsvetaniliev6451 Рік тому

      @@davidmarzi7380 Good to hear that you like the Scribe. I guess the larger distance between the tip of the pen and the e-ink is due to the extra layer where the lights are, then again this brings us extra functionality.
      Well, I'm really looking forward to receiving mine next week. I liked the reMarkable, but I got disappointed with their customer support.

      @Zoide Haven't been using it a lot, as I'm taking a break from work, but first impressions are ok. Like David, I don't like that extra distance between the tip of the pen and the display, but it's not a massive problem. Really, the only thing that I'm missing right now is the ability to cut and paste selections - something I use often when organising my notes. Hopefully this will be added with one of the next software updates.

      I'm currently in the process of choosing between those 2 and I'm leaning towards the remarkable 2. I don't know why this is such a big factor for me, but the low profile magnetic case and the slick minimalist aesthetics are so appealing, I tried a friend's remarkable 2 and it's just such a tactile and pleasant, premium experience. The scribe, while objectively better in so many ways, just feels more like a boring and practical device.
      How much do you weigh this more emotional difference between the two? - For me, I struggle to stay focused and I think (hope) having a device that's really sexy that I want to grab will mean I journal and note take more. This certainly worked with my Fujifilm camera which is such a beautiful object and the Remarkable2 seems to be that too. The scribe on the other hand just looks a bit "cheap".
      Separately, I send all my books to my Kindle in ePub format which the Remarkable also understands (no DRM), so the Amazon store/ecosystem offers no benefit to me. The backlight may be nice, but not at the expense of a worse writing experience.

    While I found the video to be informative, I wanted to point out a couple of important factors that were not highlighted:
    1- The Kindle Scribe allows access to Kindle Unlimited books, which is not possible on the Remarkable 2 in any way.
    2- Reading PDF ebooks on the Remarkable 2 can be a suboptimal experience, whereas the Kindle Scribe is better suited for this.
    It's important to note that the Remarkable 2 is primarily a note-taking device, while the Kindle Scribe offers more versatility with access to Kindle Unlimited and better PDF reading capabilities.
    Therefore, comparing the two devices would be unfair since they serve different purposes.

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone Рік тому +1

      Personally I only use DRM free ePub books which I currently send to the kindle, so the Remarkable 2 should have a similar reading experience (minus the backlight)? (I'm currently leaning towards getting a Remarkable2, I don't have one yet).
      As for reading PDFs, that does sound like an important difference, can you please comment on what is subpar about reading PDFs on the Remarkable? - is it just the latency or anything else?

    • @anyarabicplatform
      @anyarabicplatform Рік тому +2

      @@DigiDriftZone While the Remarkable 2 offers a great note-taking experience, it's worth noting that I have found the reading experience for PDF and ePub books to be less optimal.

      In the case of ePub books, the page zooming and flipping functionality is slower compared to other devices, which can affect the reading flow. Additionally, adjusting the page view for PDFs can be challenging, and there is some latency or slowness when moving between pages.
      It's important to consider these factors if your primary focus is on reading eBooks. However, if you're primarily interested in note-taking capabilities, the Remarkable 2 excels in that aspect.
      Cheers!

    Just sent the reMarkable back, having no front light was a much bigger deal than i expected, hardware performance was poor with handwritten lecture notes imported (you can watch the page render in blocks ), and crazy basic features are also missing from this devices note app even though the community has been asking for them for years. It does look nice though, better looking than the scribe. But I gave the scribe another ago as they surpassed remarkable in pen tools in this update and Amazon are doing trade in + an extra 20% off any kindle so it was over £110 cheaper with a pen and a much better reading experience and better hardware.

      Interesting to hear your thoughts. I think if you're someone that is precious about the light, this will be a game-changer to have the Scribe. For me, I do sort of find it difficult but I think it goes against the concept of "should I be working at night" message that RM put out...

      He definitely could have added a quick explanation for that in the commentary. £279 is for the price of a refurbished model, without a pen. If you buy new it’s £299, then additional £59-109 for the pen. So that’s £358-408. But really, if you go like-for-like, kindle scribe starts at £330. At these prices that 8% extra might not matter as much for some people

      Kindle scribe is £410 but you can got 20% off with a kindle trade in so £328.
      Paper like connect service is currently better than kindles, but costs £3 after the first year. So first 3 years plus the pen and paper like would be £360

    You just ruined your review when you said the screen quality on the remarkable 2 is better than the scribe. Clearly the scribe screen is better (for reading). Not debatable. But you are correct (or have a valid opinion) in everything else in the review.

      @keepproductive For reading only or listening to audio books the scribe is significantly better (better/crisper screen text with back lighting options). For everything else the Remarkable 2 wins (build quality, note taking experience, etc). The Scribe is cheaper too. So it all depends on why you are using them. Both have advantages and disadvantages over the other. Good reviewers state the truth of these things. You just killed me when you said the Remarkable has a better screen for reading. I'm like, "why are you bleeping lying". I'm compared both screens and you are flat out wrong. And I don't recommend anyone get any of those devices. I'm a devout galaxy tab s9 user.
