Laserdisc Fridays: Road Blaster
Official Description: "Road Blaster is a Laserdisc game created by Data East in 1985. Your mission is to seek out a gang of bikers who attacked and killed your wife. You are behind the wheel of a souped-up sports car, weaving in and out of traffic and other obstacles while in pursuit of the bikers."
Welcome to the all-new DGPV series: Laserdisc Fridays! Every Friday, I will try to play through and upload these timeless classics back from the late 80's and early 90's. For those not in the know, Laserdisc games were interactive movies. Basically, when the game prompts you to hit a button or perform an action, you hit it. Making a wrong press or taking too long to hit the button will cause a lost life or game over. While Interactive Movies today are shunned due to the lack of interactivity and freedom, they offer striking visuals and a more relaxing environment back in the day to play in as you sit down and enjoy the ride and influence how the movie unfolds depending on your actions.
Enjoy the ride!
Road Blaster is also known as Road Avenger, and is available on iOS for iPod Touch and iPhone series.
Data East went defunct in the early 2000's and this game has now been assumed as Abandonware.
EDIT: Sorry guys, the upload was excessively slow today and did not get through fast enough for friday. :( =========================

Mad Max, the Naked Gun intro, Knight Rider, and '80s anime all rolled into one. Sheer awesomeness!
It may be an "on rails" type of game, where you're in the driver's seat just to tap the right commands into the game when prompted...but it's so well-done, you'd swear the animation was being drawn specifically for you as you go!
I don't think I ever saw this game in arcades, but I would have fallen in love with it if I had. It's definitely one of the best laserdisc games, melding animation and computer graphics together - an extremely difficult task for the era.
Reminds me of COBRA COMMAND.
as far as i can remember me playing in arcades and laserdiscs where a big hype, i remember seeing a standup version of Road Avenger as it was called in Europe, but it broke down easily and it was gone before i knew it, id definitely would love to have one, especially if there would be a sit-in version., mostly i played it on my sega cd, even with lower graphics and different soundtracks, probably because of licensing, i enjoyed it very mutch. together with Time-gal of course also a classic taito laserdisc game
That's some killer driving there! Great job on a classic laserdisc game.
More people need to know about this epicness. This game looks so amazing!
Jasey Studios from AVGN
this game is hard af but it fun if you able to control it with try again
Unlike other laserdisc games, this one seems very forgiving with its arrows. Most force you to remember what’s happening next.
This looks like it got its idea from the 1979 Mad Max Movie! I love that movie!!
This was the craziest driving game I've ever seen. Given the face I have no prior memory of this game, it's obvious no arcade I was in back in the 1980's had this. The way this game plays makes the wildest driving scenes in any GTA game look like Bump & Jump.
So many classic action movie references in this game. I'm pretty impressed, even if they weren't intentional on the part of the developers.
Fun-fact: the car makes a cameo appearance in the garage at the start of Double Dragon, also by DATA EAST.
Following this the gunship 🚁 from COBRA COMMAND also makes a cameo the same way in Double Dragon 2 as the heroes leave.
Ran into this looking for Space Ace, and I must say... you are finessing!
I haven’t seen this game back in the days, but I love the Cobra Command crossovers. :)
The red car the road blaster is driving reminds me of an old 80s cartoon called turbo-teen
Loved the James Bond reference just after the 10:30 mark with both the jump and the boat flying over the road!
@6:35 Toshiro from Captain Harlock appears in the Wanted Poster, and before the jolly roger ;)
Although the dashboard would need a bit of spit and polish, the quality of the video is excellent. Brings back a lot of good memories, this does. :)
I STILL PLAY THIS ON PS1 EMULATOR JAPAN IMPORT GREAT GAME Road Blaster - 1985 ALONG WITH Cobra Command (1984 Data East) DOUBLE ISO
This shit would blow your mind back in the 80s and 90s.
Even though he's fighting criminals, the hero is breaking quite a few laws himself. The laws of physics!
8:48 and 16:37,that's the Queen Mad Bomber. She's been there the whole time during those parts of those stages.
You see glimpses of her car thanks to that gold bumper and her cape billowing. Guess she's been eyeing at you the entire time earlier.
Bravo 👏.
Incredible eye.
I would of never ever of noticed that.
@@nativeeuropean1910 Whoa. No prob. :)
It's a shame that we don't see more of her in the game.
@@bouncingbluesoul5270 Guess she was just sneaking around, planning. But yeah, 'tis a shame indeed.
all the game looks like the begining of the naked gun movie...
Random Guy From Texas not exactly. Naked Gun is a continuation of a TV show that was around in the early ‘80s.
one of the first games i ever played as a kid, took me like 3-4 months to beat.
This game looks awesome yet simple
I actually recognize that first area; it is the road that goes up the mountain near Lake Mead.
This game looks so much cooler than dragon's lair and space ace.
I remember having this on ios back in 2013, I beat the whole thing in a few hours, was fun.
Why do your points jump up to 700k range near the end? I was under the assumption you get 800 per correct input.
These games are amazing!
30年近く前にこんな熱いゲームがあったんだねぇ。
Wow, this looks great compared to the Mega CD version!
Hi, do you know where I can download this version? I have the amiga one, but the quality is lower!
Sorry, no. It's been several several years.
On a random note can anyone tell me where in the hell to find the Japanese lyrics (translated) for one of the other versions of this game? There's one in English on the Mega CD but there's also one with the same tune but Japanese singing.
"Road Blaster is also known as Road Avenger, and is available on iOS for iPod Touch and iPhone series."
Wait, really?!
yeah but it most likely have the crappy US musics
Crappy why?
RaptorZX3 Crappy? The music on the Sega CD edition is far superior. It's literally the most popular version to play simply for that reason alone.
@@RaptorZX3 It has the music featured from this video.
dragons lair, rampage, frogger and sega space tactics is what my arcade had chuck e cheese. also had did dug and tron but tron was table not common upright or cabinet
+Gamingnight You were lucky.
thaks. it is a shame arcades are dying
Gamingnight It is. People need to be reminded they once left the house at all.
Where can I find this in the App Store?
EPIC, WILD RIDE!!!
I never got past stage 2 of this game. That didn't make me hate the game, but the gameplay wasn't my style. It's funny that the car shows up at the beginning of Double Dragon.
Nor funny. Same company.
Fun-fact: the helicopter gunship from COBRA COMMAND makes a cameo in Double Dragon too in opening scene too.
This is awesome much better than the grainy sega cd version
the only racing game that makes me feel like a badass, and I am only watching a walktrough, need to play this game asap where can I get it
TURBO-TASTIC!
I am curious what Road Blaster is based on what Japanese anime movie?
The animation was made specifically for this game.
Wasn't this game also known as Road avenger?
By the way did anyone realized that this game got cited at the beginning of Double Dragon? This is the car in the garage of Billy and jimmy!
This game's "predecessor" Cobra Command got cited in Double Dragon II in the same way. The same helicopter was present on the Helipad in stage 1!
@ 9:03 uh oh suzie is behind you
I wonder what anime was this from?
None. This is all made for this game. The animation studio is Toei Animation, a still-active company responsible for lots of Anime over the decades.
Load Blaster(Internet and Smartphoneless)
That was in 007 movie.
laserdisc fridays huh
PQP , isso não e um jogo e um anime interativo ,o visual impressiona ate hoje ,para min road avenger merece o titulo de classico imortal dos arcades em LD ao lado de dragons lair e cobra command
The interaction on this one is not that bad. On the other hand I never could get into Don Bluth's games
LDゲームの中ではダントツで面白いんじゃないかと思う
Agreed.
Internet and Smartphoneless arcade laserdisc
Turbo tried to take over this game..but he was never heard from again
こういうのも、今ならゴリゴリのCGでできちゃうんでしょうね……(´▽`)
Laser disc Arcadig video games(Internet or Smartphoneless)
This game can actually be played on youtube with some proper skills someone can make a version of it.
I knew of Cobra Command....but not this one!
I didn't see this game.
16:58 My kind of woman.
2:14 ウルトラセブンの車じゃない?
I was a child of the 80's and visited the Putt-Putts, the huge game rooms of the first generation Chuck-E-Cheeses, the Oceanfront boardwalk Arcades, and NEVER did I see any games like Road Blaster in the 80's.
With the exception of the early 90's DL & SA, the only other laserdisk game I even knew existed was MACH3... So, did any of you have Road Blaster or a similar game avail to play in your town? Where was this you lucky dogs?!
Dragon's Lair and M.A.C.H. 3 came out in '83 and Space Ace in '84. Dragon's Lair II was delayed until '91--perhaps that's what you were thinking of?
Internet or Smartphoneless arcadig video game
Sorry make that 10:45 mark.
これ、駄菓子屋ゲーセンで良くやったな~♪
someone doesn't get the joke
fail? Look up Road Avenger, the sega cd version of this game, it has ugly grainy video, but the most epic intro of any game ever made , and it really sets the pace for the game...... sorry but gran turismo 5 could never hope to recreate the feeling of a game like this, it may look prettier, but that's about it.
Ohhhh, it was a joke.... i see what you did there.... saying something that you don't actually believe, but is partially true in order to convince us into believing that you believed that we believed you believed it......... how original!
LEAVE ME ALONE!!! I JUST WANT TO GO TO THE STORE AND BUY FROM FUCKING MILK!!!
Fail gran turismo 5 is way more realistic
