When I was small, a lot of horror film has this high pitched sound which is so eerie but I didn’t know how they got that sound. Only few years ago I happened to know that sounds were made on violin or parts of the violin.
For example in The Exorcist. The sound is so haunting even on its own. I was actually for anyone who can play those sound (the exact sound).

This is excellent but what might one be able to create as a very short solo piece using these extended techniques without layering them?

I have always been interested in the violin, but never had any experience with it. You answered a question in this video I have been asking since the 90's: How did Lestat make the creepy sounds on the violin that sounded so amazing? Thank you so much!

I'm looking into getting a cheap violin just for my horror soundtracks. Do you think I could make these sorta effects with not much experience?

Hi! Yes, I think you can create these kind of sound effects with a violin and not much experience. On the violin you have so many possibilities to make horror sound effects so the most important thing is to be creative and to experiment with the sounds you can make. Then you will find many more great spooky sounds you can use for your compositions.
