Good Lord. You read about the work ethic of a good German boxer, but to see it in action is another thing entirely. The musculature, drive and overwhelming tenacity of that dog is astonishing. Sam is a beast!
The three Boxer's we have shared our life with ( Rocky, Luther, and Rudy ) R.i.P. have all been fun and loving family dogs. Early Boxer's I have read were used in the military and in police work probably more so in Germany. Sam looks to be a fine example of a police dog. Why are most police dogs German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois? Why not more of the other breeds?
+RonaldandGail I would say the biggest problem with the Boxer is their tolerance to Heat. Also, the other breeds are sold as Police Dogs at around 1 or 2 years of age. Boxers have a great deal of personality, they are more easily humanized by us, so it is much much more difficult to find someone that will sell a good Boxer. Sheps & Mals do not have that problem.
It is training for Police Drug detection. It is a little hard to explain but we are showing that the dog is only interested in the box with the illicit substance. He will not even take the ball when the odor is not present.

Thank you for the input. That makes sense. Our boys could tell us a story just with their eyes.
And this train is for what?
