I'm shopping for a 4Runner and 200K+ mile 4Runners that are 15+ years old are $10K and up. It's hard to find one without frame corrosion if it was driven in snow, and I'm very fussy about frame corrosion after buying a new 4WD Tacoma and having the frame rust completely in half at 138K miles. That's why I'm shopping for a used 4Runner. Before the first snow, I'll cold water rinse the frame inside and out, let it dry for a few days, and spray Fluid Film inside and outside the frame, and on the rest of the undercarriage. Rusted frames are the biggest problems that limit a 4Runner's life.

Another fun fact: the current Generation 5 4Runner has been in production since ‘09, and the sole 4.0 V6 is essentially the same engine since 2003 (Gen 4). Got a Gen 5 TRD Off-Road that’s my sorta daily while also being my overland rig. Aside from the thirsty tank, I love this thing. Had it since 2018, and decided to keep it after the lease was up. Been on many, many adventures and will keep it as it continues to push on. Still has a few more upgrades for the build, only about 60% complete. All part of the fun process anyways…though I gotta say, the aftermarket/oem scene for off-road/overland parts is ridiculously inflated, even before Biden’s inflation. I find it odd that the aftermarket Wrangler JL/JK parts are generally cheaper than comparable Gen5 4Runner parts, especially as I mentioned before…the current 4Runner has been around since 2009. That amount of time is like halfway to open patent territory lol

@@dragospahontu then you would know Nissan quality is not there. Maybe if you are referring to '80s '90s Nissan's sure they can compete with the tacomas but anything newer than that no. It would explain why Nissan is having financial troubles right now because all they make is absolute crap.

You can tell that thing has never seen a winter below 32°. Or else it would be rusted and dead by 300k

I've been a mechanic for 15 years and ill say that They last forever if you live in a place that doesn't use salt on the roads. Every older 4runner I've ever seen has had completely rusted out frames. Doesn't matter how long the engine lasts if the rest on the car falls apart around it. They are fantastic vehicles and I'm a huge toyota fan, but you do have to watch out for that kinda stuff.

Same for my 20yr old Tacoma. I can't see myself trading it in because it is still mechanically sound. The 4 wheel drive still works well and the V6 doesn't leak, smoke or act tired. with 184K miles so far, it's still rockin'! My paint even lasted 15 yrs before it began peeling or fading. Right now, the most it needs is rubber seals, a new paint job and headlights. That's a lot cheaper to fix than a brand new vehicle.

My job gifted a 2021 4Runner TRD with 30k miles on it. Extremely excited and feeling super blessed 🙏
