    Illyrian culture is believed to have evolved from the Stone Age and to have manifested itself in the territory of Albania toward the beginning of the Bronze Age, about 2000 bce). The Illyrians were not a uniform body of people but a conglomeration of many tribes that inhabited the western part of the Balkans, from what is now Slovenia in the northwest to (and including) the region of Epirus, which extends about halfway down the mainland of modern Greece. In general, Illyrians in the highlands of Albania were more isolated than those in the lowlands, and their culture evolved more slowly-a distinction that persisted throughout Albania’s history.

      Probably more Pelasgian than Illyrian... Illyrians were located north of Epirus. Epirus is the land between Greece (Achaeans) and Illyrians... just like the Macedonians in the north; both Epirus and Macedonia are considered part of the Hellenic antiquity world. Epirus probably was the territory that divided and at the same time joined ancient Greeks with Illyrians in the north-west. Polyphony is more preserved among Albanians compared to Greeks in the same region, but tradition is fading away in Albania as it did in Greece.

    I find it interesting that the rrot word of Albanians * Albanoi in ancient languages( comes from "alba" an ancient word for "white color", and some say that in turn it comes from "alb(t) -"alt", revering to mountain peak...White color ( "barh" in Albanian language) is obviously present in Albanian culture not just in theri traditional costumes, but also in their traditional vocabulary, e.g. "ardhshi të bardh" "faqëbardh", "Bardh qofsh" etc. and personal names " Bardh" "Bardha", "Bardhok" , "Bardhyl" etc etc.....I really wish someone provides some detailed history on the origin of Albanian trraditional costume, because I have seen something similar among other cultures (Bulgarians, Romanians, even POlish-the pandts etc, except that all these nations only have on epart of the whole garment whereas Albanian usually wear the whole costume(....

    are you insane? just because we use ancient greek words for melody and rhythm then by that we can infer that all known music is greek? Epir was co-inhabited by albanian and greek predeccesors so it is not fair to assign it one particular group but polyphonic music is blatantly albanian and more specifically Lab(chaonian), its not smth that is up for debate, it simply does not exist in contemporary greek culture, which to be fair is heavily laden with albanian elements through arvanite influence.

    Polyphonic singing is known also
    among Greeks (Greek-speaking) from Pogoni and Northern Epirus (South Albania).
    It also exist in traditions of Arvanitovlachs (Remeni)
    So I think polyphony singing from Epirus isn't exclusively Albanian or Greek, this is regional tradition practiced by people originating from this region, regardless of ethnicity / nationality.
    Who invented this? I think it is not important. Albanians will say it dates back to ancient Illyrians, Greeks will say it dates back to ancient Greece. Both of these statements have no meaning for me. If there are no clear proofs of continuity of this specific traditions in this region from ancient times, we can only guess.
    I don't understand war in this comments. Do you come here to listen to beautiful music, or to argue and offend mutually?

      Sata Stimul I know a lot about Thracians because my couuntry is full of archaelogical inventions about them - tombs, golden treasures, etc. Nowadays there are historic scientists who have the hypothesis that Thracians and Bulgarians are two different names of one and the same population. More precisely Bulgarians were part of Thracians.

    • @floriangjonaj8976
      @floriangjonaj8976 8 років тому +11

      +Vladislava Ivanova You must be joking bulgarians did not influence albanians. Iso polyphony is protected by UNESCO and is an Albanian masterpiece of oral traditions and history dating back to the Illyrians. The costumes are traditional Albanian clothes that also date back to the illyrians. This can be proven by the mosaics, pottery and carvings on stones as well as roman written accounts. The slavs came into the 6th century from russia to invade European lands thus adopting the native people's customs and traditions.

    • @vladislavaivanova7098
      @vladislavaivanova7098 8 років тому

      +Florian Gjonaj Do you think that the so called "Slavs" come to this land naked? Or without their own culture and traditions? And if they are the invaders in these lands, isn't it more logical their culture and traditions to be dominant not vice versa? And why everything in the video is so simular to the folklore in my country? The term "Slavs" was invented in the 17th century in Russia because the Russian Emperor wanted to justify his policy and wars on the Balkans. Up to 17th century the word "Slavs" didnt exist. Bulgarians didn come from Russia and are not Slavs. Bulgarians formed 7 different countries in different places in Europe and Asia during the last 1600 years or more. They were in Iran and Pakistan too, which also are places of great culture. One of these 7 countries still exists around the river Volga in Russia. There are lots of lies and speculations about our origin. But I think that folklore in most parts of the Balkans is simular because it is influenced by the Thracian tribes who were "numerous as the sand" according to a ancient Greek writer. But who knows?

    • @floriangjonaj8976
      @floriangjonaj8976 8 років тому +6

      Vladislava Ivanova Bulgarians are not slavs?? How come bulgarian, bosnian, serbian, macedonian,croatian, ukranian etc falls into the same branch as russian? Please. If there were slavs before the 6th century in the Balkans, the romans and greeks would have written about them. You say that if they are invaders in these lands it would be more logical that their culture is dominant. Wrong. You adopted all your culture from the people you found. You adopted orthodox christianity from the greeks. Please. With all due respect to you, when Albanians had civilizations, slavs were still cavemen.
