We don't celebrate at all on the 4th of July, noone does there are just articles on newspapers and sports sites for that day, not a single greek celebrates that day, but every one of us will always remember
So I knew about this miracle tournament but the fact they had never even scored a goal at a major tournament before that blows my mind. Especially since Greece today has some good players.
Fantastic coach won also a european cup with Werder and would have won the uefa cup with Bayern aswell if they wouldnt have fired him shortly before the finals back then. Two miracles influenced by one guy is simply crazy.
I watched a ~20 minutes highlight video about this 8th world wonder. And it has left me completely shocked. Positively obviously. What a sensation that was and still is. I hope that I could see something like this once in my lifetime. Well it "almost" happened with Danish Dynamite a year ago. Lets hope that the World Cup in Qatar will have a somewhat surprising winner.
as someone from portugal that (fortunately or not) was not there to witness the 2004 greece euro win, my parents always say that they watch the match every now and then as if they're expecting a different outcome than the outrageous loss. it was a moment of great pain for portugal but all my respect goes to greece and their outstanding euro campaign in 2004! after all, portugal also knows what it feels like. euro france 2016 ;)
Thanks Portugal for your kindness and hospitality it was a great match so happy that our team won.l support Portugal against in France in euro 2016. Love and respect from Greece.
That was a two-year miracle for Greece. • 2004 Gold in Euro, Olympic games took place in Greece • 2005 Gold in EuroBasket, 2nd place on MundoBasket, 1st place in Eurovision Also, the Greek national teams on football and basketball these years were almost everyone playing for Panathinaikos, the Greek giant.
I won 10K on Greece winning that tournament. They were on great form and I thought why not, biggest bet I've ever won to date although my brother won 80K at Cheltenham.
What other teams lacked was chemistry. The Greek players were all playing in the same league, so similar style of play, and it was clear from Otto rehhagel that the nation comes first.
And one other team, Greece never had chemistry before, because they all cared about their team football (i guess they were thinking that their will go through).Otto made them.
I was 14 years old, near the end of a holiday in corfu when the final happened, we spent 2 weeks being waited on hand a foot, by some of the most caring people i've ever met, and to see that happen for them before I went home is a memory I will never forget!

As a Greek I can say a big thank you for remembering the world that with this miracle you can understand more that no matter how hard it is, how many possibilities you have and what the others think about you, you'll make it if you believe, and that's exactly what I'm doing!
I worked for the Olympic Games in 2004 and us winning the Euros was a double celebration for Greeks, tourists were coming up to us in the store and congratulating us, hugs and kisses like meeting a long lost friend. The true spirit of sportsmanship was alive that year, love and peace reigned, Athens was like one big family reunion 🇬🇷💖🇬🇷
I remember this tournament very well. Let me add one thing: for much of the tournament, the best team up until that moment was actually the Czech Republic. So Greece defeating a very in form Czech team, who also had Milan Barros scoring, on practically the last play of the match, off a Corner Kick if I remember correctly was quite something. To beat the Hosts twice is quite extraordinary. Fully deserved.
As a greek i am very proud for my country and this achievment was something else. This year Greece made a very good team in the Nations League. Also search about Panathinaikos who was in the CL final againg Ajax and Cruyff. Great videos keep going.
