I use custom Vaughn V6 pads with extra flex. A good example is Jonathan Quick. The pads bend with almost no effort. Love how the 5 hole is closed with no problems

As an old-school goalie, for me, the softer the better. The more flexible, the better. Once, when I was looking for the Bauer RX8 pads, I was asked, "just how soft and flexible do you want the pad?" I replied, "I like them to be as flexible as an accordion and be able to play 'Lady of Spain' with them.

I love a stiff outer break and a soft boot.

I wear Brian's Heritage custom pads. I play high end roller. I love soft pads . I wore hard pads once and was getting rebounds past the blue line. I'm a hybrid goalie too. I'm old school.

I've only had 3 sets of goal pads. I started out with with a set of classic brown leather D&R's (34"?), which were stuffed with deer hair. Can you say HEAVY? My next set were a pair of RBK 5K's (36") and finally my current set, which is are Bauer Supreme 2S Pro's (36"). The RBK's fitted my blocking style at the time, as they were a relatively soft pad with very little rebound. Made for some good scrambles for a loose puck right in front of the crease! As they were not designed for the butterfly style the did not rotate on my leg and had virtually no landing knee pad, When going down to block a shot it was next to impossible to not land on the face of the pad, regardless of how loosely I strapped them. They also didn't close off the 5-hole very well when dropping down to the ice. Also, if a shot came in just above the height of the front face of the pad, you could almost always count on getting a nice mid-thigh bruise as the thigh boards seemed to disappear somewhere and not stop the puck. When I switched to the 2S Pro's it was a whole new game! These are definitely a stiff pad. Rebounds off these pads , if you want, will easily make it out past the face -off circles or into the corners. You can control the rebound somewhat by absorbing the impact with a slight backward motion in relation to the shot to decrease the length of the rebound. The other major difference that took a bit of getting used to was how slick the Bauer C.O.R.Tech skins are. It takes very little effort to push from one post to the other. The first couple of games I found myself ending up out near the face off circle. Since the pads are designed for the butterfly style, they cover the 5-hole very well when dropping down and a lot

I like my Warrior G3’s their stiff on the outside but soft on the inside on my knees. If I was to get new gear I would get the Warrior G5’s extra stiff. Oh and Wayne you forgot to do youtuber Tuesday gear.

Do you think the CCM Axis A1.9 would be good for a Midget A goalie

My favorite pair of pads were the Vaughn Velocity V1. I needed new pads and went to the store. As a hybrid/low crouching player, I took out the knee roll pads. Back then, they had multiple smaller knee roll pads instead of a thick block. Now I play V3's. It's time for newish pads, and I'm sticking with something soft.

About 10 years ago I bought a set of the bauer vapor xxx pads. I never felt as confident as when I wore those. They were perfect for me. I felt in control and mobile..... Until I tore my groin during an icy year that left me injured for over a year. I wish I never sold them.

I use the Bauer Ultra Sonics, it's like having two extremely light weight brick walls attached to your legs. The rebounds go far and fast, but I wish they had more curve for the less flexible folks.

I tried playing goal with stiff butterfly pads, when I learned how to play “stand up” and was trying to be hybrid. I learned goal from a Canadian guy back in 00’
Stiff pads are an absolute no go if you can’t butterfly well or you’re a flopper like Hasek. I put my pads up and started to play out again. I love the position, I just do NOT have the hips for it, almost zero butterfly flare no matter how much I stretch lol.

I wear Vaughn slr pads and I love the strapping and seal to the ice. They are getting small and I’m considering EFlex 5 with max rebound

I got a pair of slr pros, and really like the strapping as well. However, I am pretty new to goalie, and am having issues with under rotation. How loose do you strap your pads and the knee lock strap, or whatever they call it.
