Kane's character obviously wasn't supposed to be well liked, but voice acting such as this section is what makes you really feel his frustration with the events of the game. He ACTS like somebody that has his wife and daughter in danger. He isn't ridiculously chill like most video game characters would be. I think this is what made K&L underrated. People wanted another good guy wins, bad guy dies, everybody is happy type of game. I saw some reviews where they critique that the protagonists weren't likeable. But they aren't supposed to be. Think of The Last of Us 2. You were constantly having to question the morals of all parties involved. K&L, if made today with obviously updated graphics and mechanics, would be a massive success. People are starting to understand that not all stories are supposed to be perfect. K&L wasn't a perfect game, but it had a good story and really was ambitious with the character design. Kane was a shitty guy. Lynch was a shitty guy. Maybe they could've added more dialogue to get you attached to the characters more, but other than that, I think Kane was a very well-designed character. There needed to be more background about his family though. I really wish this game was made now instead. Too bad it wasn't successful enough for a remake.
I'm glad you were able to clarify this. I saw this game get previewed on Game Informer thinking it was way too mature and gritty for me, I was much younger at the time. Watching these cutscenes really makes you appreciate that we have motion capture now and Kane's voice actor really carried the narrative. Games like this may not turn out to be widely accepted masterpieces but you have to admire what they did which was take a darker premise and push it all the way through. Games like this inspire more like them to come out.

Naughty Dogshit likes to go back and fourth with their characters like abby being a good person and that she pet a dog and her supposed 'redemption' isn't thought out well enough especially since she tried to kill a pregnant lady.... ellie has ludonarrative dissonance in gameplay and in cutscenes elsewell

This game alone has so many characters that appear become part of the story and die the second game could of been Kane’s past what happened between him and the 7 how they came together how he betrayed them and how did he became this old rusty nail who don’t care for anyones well being other then Jenny’s what happened between him and yoko everywhere is somewhere left on a cliff hanger, even more rific’s crew would of been nice to come to know who they are their full names how they all ended up in prison this whole game felt rushed but still the some what story and characters is what keeps me entertained to carry on watching
And who is the 7 because their name but clarify that there is 7 members but we only meet Carlos mute the two brothers kane himself and that’s kinda it but when kane kills important people in the story I do think the guy who broke kanes nose at the beginning of the game is just a high ranked enforcer for the brothers but when kane kills him his vision blurres in anger, but never given no name and is only seen very few times so to go back to my point you only meet 5 of “The7” who was the other two? Did they die in Venezuela? Why is it if they was they are never mentioned even what was so valuable to the7 is never mentioned other then a briefcase? There is so many things you could pick out of this story and make a sequel explaining how the advents that happened lead to here, why did kane leave his family? Why did he run all those years? What really happened to his son? Really how close was he to Carlos? Kane mentions how the7 over throw governments as well how and where would be interesting to see I have a strong passion for this game it self in the way how different it is it’s not a game where you should like or respect anything these men do the true meaning over a anti hero they’re selfish ruthless killers and it just makes it stand out instead being a bad guy with a good side these people are just nasty everyone is raw never any sort of affection and when there is it’s shut down quickly but more grittiness having your own daughter asking you why can’t you just die after you risking your life to save her is pretty brutal and what a lot of the best aspects of this game goes with his good voice acting in places specially in the two main characters.

If I ever can getting to game development the first thing I’m doing is going back and making right what was wrong with this game hardest thing is getting characters that can resonate with people but even people who never played kane and lynch know about them
The endings felt so unfinished but the game itself was a god damn phycological masterpiece

I would kill for a remake of this game. Yeah it wasn’t perfect but the soundtrack and story is what really stuck with me
