Tori Amos - Me and a Gun (Live At Montreux 1992) REACTION
Original Video: • Tori Amos - Me and a G...
    INTRO & OUTRO BEATS BY:
    Beats Provider: / beatsprovider
MESSAGE: Tori says of this song "How am I alive to tell you this tale when he was ready to slice me up? In the song I say it was 'Me and a Gun' but it wasn't a gun. It was a knife he had. And the idea was to take me to his friends and cut me up, and he kept telling me that, for hours. And if he hadn't needed more drugs I would have been just one more news report, where you see the parents grieving for their daughter".

    Break The Silence.
Yes, Tori has many 'happy' songs and when the STL's open again, I promise you'll get to hear one.

It took her 10 years to get to this place. She saw Thelma & Louise in the theater and realized she needed to deal with what happened to her. She started therapy & sang this song EVERY NIGHT on the Little Earthquakes tour.
Tori is brilliant & has been my favorite artist since 1994. I was in 10th grade & she changed my life. If you venture into the fan community you will hear that she saved lives. Many, many lives. Not only is she talented & beautiful, she is wise & infinitely kind & generous.

I've a rape victim and I was lucky enough to see Tori sing this song live. I couldn't stop sobbing along with quite a few other woman and men in the crowd.
I know from my what happened to me I thought the most sublime, insane, things just to distract myself from what was happening to me.
You think of lollipops you never tried, the boy you wish you told you had a crush on, do all the things you needed/wanted to do but never did.
It's a profound and deeply saddening and painful song.

This is one of the most chilling things I have ever heard. That took so much strength I had chills through the whole thing. I agree it had to be done without instruments other than her voice.

Tori Amos is simply one of the best songwriters ever, often painful, sometimes funny or twisted, this song has always haunted me when I hear it, she has so much angst and pain here. Tori never fails to get the emotions out whether it is the words, how she sings, or the way she plays, she tortures her piano or harpsicord if that is how the song demands, she has written lighter songs but the music industry tries to stifle her

Not only is this so emotional, but holy moly, she's maintaining perfect pitch throughout, which I can't even comprehend. I didn't even realize there was Tori stuff on YT, and I haven't heard or seen her in YEARS, but she's been a favorite since Little Earthquakes came out. I'm so excited to check out more of her performances online now! I got to see her a few times in the 90s, and she's an amazing performer.

She's a child prodigy, learning piano on her own starting at 2 years old and composing her own music at 3. She also experiences chromesthesia, which is basically seeing sound. Certain sounds cause those affected to see patterns of color and light.

Tori Amos August 22, 1963 (age 59 years), Newton, North Carolina, United States, is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. She is a classically trained musician with a mezzo-soprano vocal range.

    • @Wungolioth
      @Wungolioth Рік тому +5

A few more Fun Facts: Tori Amos started playing piano at the age of 2, she said she has a form of synesthesia, she sees musical compositions as structures of light in her head. By the age of 3 she could replay pieces of music after one listen, she was composing her own music at 4 years old. She's the youngest person to ever receive a full scholarship at the Peabody School of Music at Johns Hopkins at the age of 5. She was then kicked out that program at the age of 11 for what she called "musical insubordination", she refused to learn to read sheet music and she refused the worship of dead classical composers, she preferred contemporary rock music. Her father, a Methodist minister, tried to find places for her to perform live for an audience, but the only places that accepted her were gay clubs and bars around the Washington, D.C. area. Her first band after she signed to Atlantic records, Y Kan't Tori Read (an inside joke about her unwillingness to learn to read music) was a synth/metal/pop group, but it was a dismal failure. Little Earthquakes was really her coming out of that experience and making a last ditch effort to be completely herself and not what the record company thought she should be, and the rest is history.

@Wungolioth I'll add in a couple more for you guys. Her real name is Myra Ellen Amos and she actually was on the Kelloggs Cornflakes ad box in her teens, hence her later naming a song 'The Cornflake Girl'.

Powerful reaction to an even more powerful song. The only thing about your reaction that set me off a bit was how you sort of denied her her truth of her experience when at the start she said/sang "You can laugh..." You blurted out "Laugh? Why would anyone laugh at that? " and paused it. To your credit, you then re-started it by going back five seconds, so you would get the context. Still, when she continued with "...it's kinda funny" you again blurted out "No it's not!" As she then made clear, she was meaning "funny/odd" because of the apparent randomness of the thought of "But I haven't seen Barbados, so I must get out of this" (As opposed to "I want to see my family, so I must get out of this," for ex.--the way i see it anyhow) I also think she says that as a device to sort of make the listener feel a bit more at ease--despite, as you rightly point out, her ALSO saying very uncomfortable things. And whether "So I must get out of this" refers to her enduring it without struggling or physically fighting back is unclear--I would say the former, though. So yeah, i think you sort of were too impatient to "answer for her" and at the same time it kinda looked like you were virtue-signaling ("Hey everyone, hear me affirm that rape isn't funny! Didja hear that?") Than again this IS a reaction channel, and THAT's what you were doing, lol! To say she was brave to do this is an understatement. Especially when you realize this was from 1992, when , really, rape was still not talked about all that often, still had some stigma attached to the victim, sadly. Tori was brave beyond words to sing this in public, on camera. And that most profound expression of Art: Creating Truth and Beauty out of Suffering.

This song is haunting. This is so important a song right now. I hate that it's timeless. Women are so misused by predatory men. We are worth more than this. And people are judgemental about when women report or gain the courage to tell. Or young girls sent to prison or made to pay the sex traffickers family , the one they killed 150,000 dollars. It's so upsetting. So why escaping them seems like freedom in their mind we are often criminalized in the actions. Thanks for posting this.

No, it was filmen at the Montreux Jazz Festival, which is in Montreux, Switzerland. It’s from the double-disc BluRay release “Tori Amos Live at Montreux 1991/92” which feature Tori’s full sets at the festival in 1991 and 1992. This performance is from the 1992 show. The ‘91 show is the earliest recorded performance of songs from Little Earthquakes (which wouldn’t be released for another 6 months when she performed at the festival), and probably one of the first concert performances she ever did of those songs.
