    I'm not a metal fan, but a Linux user (for a long time) and learning to play keyboard / synthesizer. Today I stumbled upon your channel, specifically this video. Really interesting!

      Thanks! Definiltely check also Unfa's channel if for some reason you haven't already. He's THE guy you need to follow what it comes to synths/EDM music production with Linux :)

    Huge thank you for this. It really help me understand how to connect Hydrogen and also use the bus.

    Hey, great video! Last time I used hydrogen, what I did is i exported from hydrogen each instrument to separate files, then I did some quick mixing so I can have an extra overhead track and I mixed them on ardour as if they were real recorded drums. this way you avoid all the midi realtime processing and just focus on mixing the drums for your truck.

      @SudoMetalStudio  Рік тому

      At least in Linux (with Jack) you can also define that each instrument has its own audio output. You can then map them separately and do all of the mixing in Ardour. On the other hand, if you want to mix drums from scratch within Ardour, I'd actually recommend using DrumGizmo. I might make a video about it at some point :)

    I'd love to see a "explain like I'm 5" setup of carla. From installation to first setup kind of deal. Is there any chance of you doing this? Love the videos!

      @@mitchellwoodin6686 Sure! I currently have in plans moving to clean Ubuntu 24.04 (PipeWire backend) and I'll make full setup video regarding it. Carla is super simple once you have the overall Linux audio setup properly done (JACK or PipeWire). Meanwhile, I have some videos doing the audio setup from scratch using Ubuntu Studio 22.04 (JACK backend). E.g. this one: ua-cam.com/video/NZBtnQEDdQU/v-deo.html

    The more copyright limitations - the more "completely original" songs 😉

    Great vid! I was just starting to play around with midi yesterday qith ardour+hydrogen, but was using ardour as jack transport master to sync the hydrogen song to my recording. Problem is, jack master mode disables lots of useful ardour transport features like loop range. I never thought to export the midi track directly and patch the audio back, which fixes this! Thanks!

    Appreciate this guided tour of this solution! Is there a way to map the Hydrogen drums to multi-out/separate mixer channels TO Ardour? I understand that Hydrogen has its own mixer (so that you can do stuff like reverb/gated reverb on snare), but what if you want some elements to have sidechain effects on instruments tracked by Ardour?

    • @SudoMetalStudio
      @SudoMetalStudio  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes, in hydrogen settings you can choose to output all instruments (i.e samples) to their own output channels. Ardour will see as many output as hydrogen exposes, and you can of course map them all to separate tracks.
      If you are doing professional mixing of drums in Ardour, DrumGizmo could also be something you should check at some point. It's bit more tedious to setup but it can 100% replicate mixing of real mic'd drums.

    It's 'Disk' because it's playing back from disk.

    • @SudoMetalStudio
      @SudoMetalStudio  9 місяців тому

      Then input monitoring should maybe be called "live" 😉

    • @seaneufexstanley9503
      @seaneufexstanley9503 9 місяців тому

      @@SudoMetalStudio Not really, it's not necessarily live at all. It's not live for instance when you're playing in something that's been recorded elsewhere or from the output of an external sequence, you're monitoring the input signal. Plus that's what they've been called ever since the advent of hard disk recorder about 10,000 years ago . in short where is the signal coming from - Audio Input or being streamed from Disk?
