It actually is, we are actually in the process of helping them spawn naturally as oppose to the fish plants (down the river) sawing them in half and dumping the eggs and semen in a bucket- swishing it around then throwing them in tanks to hatch and grow. Just down stream there's a bridge with thousands of the fish that are sawed in half, and dumped off both sides. Free meals for the bears and raccoons, but not so nice on the fish.
@vroomba03 It's easy because they have no known predators (to them), so the trick is is to very slowly lift their tail to the surface. Once you get the tail close and out of the water, they are pretty much powerless.

They feel like the Apex predator when they enter the river so in the shallows they don't realize that they are actually the prey. Plus having the fish whispering touch always helps. Watch the video again and watch when he was done having me play around with him- Boom he's gone!

Yes you can still eat them, but they don't taste as good as silvers- most people will smoke them, then you can't tell. Nice to have several hundred pounds of smoked salmon hanging around to eat or give away as gifts, just for taking a quick stroll through the river!

What is the white stuff on its tail? Im from scotland and there was salmon in a river i know covered in this stuff and you could just walking in and lift them out and alot of them where dying? any1 know.

@vroomba03 The real way to do it is to leave your hands and forearms in the water for like a good 30min, so that the temperature of your skin will match that of the water. When you spook a trout, etc, that's what spooks them (you're not the same temperature as the water). If you do like I said, and approach the fish very slowly, etc, then you will be able to pet the fish for hours, it won't go away if you do it right. My friends were amazed a couple years back, at uni... :P

It's only illegal if you get caught (JK), no this was a project to help the native salmon continue to spawn so they're not wiped out by the fishery stock salmon.

This is up the Allegany River out from Coos Bay, Oregon (West fork Millicoma). This is a couple miles down stream from Gold and Silver Falls.
