I understand what you are going through. I'm 74. When I turned 70, my old age hit me like a ton of bricks. Yes, I'm not getting old, I am old. I can see the end. I still go hunting, day and night. If not for my dogs, I would never go to the boring woods. But they make my life exciting. I want to go camping with my dogs in the forest. I want to kindof set up a permenant camp by stashing a few things so I don't have to pack them in each time. So that's about it for me. I still stay busy taking care of the home, wife and life. I do wonder what it is that all my neighbors do while I'm hunting and enjoying the wilderness, they are home watching TV. I feel sorry for the poor smucks.
Oh yeah we think alike .. I plan on putting up another remote camp .. place way out I can go to .. I have had one in the past just not enough time to really enjoy it .. like you I feel sorry for them .. Thank you and keep watching I will make some videos of my camp when I get it up
Love the channel. My Dad and I are both subscribers. Don't blame you at all for retirement. Good friend of ours just weeks or less from retirement was killed yesterday in an ATV accident. He had already turned in his paperwork. He worked with my wife. We never know how much time we have left. So skin those mules and run those hounds Brett!
Thanks to you and your Dad both .. I have heard those same stories over and over ... it is a shame sad really .. true we don't know how long we have ... I will keep trying Thanks again
My supervisor kept talking about retirement and all the traveling she wanted to do. Had worked for the company for over 30 years and was getting ready to retire. She got sick and passed away within about 2 weeks and never got to retire. You never know when it’s your time.
Don't quit until you absolutely have to. I cowboyed all my life. I'm 73 now and still hunt but not quite like I used to. Went on a lion hunt two years ago with my friend and got a big 170 lb tom. Will never forget it!
I'm going on 65 my high school sweetheart passed 12 years ago I do alot of things alone I do have all the Garmin stuff you have and a small Razer. I suffered 2 strokes but I'm really doing good and I get out alot I enjoy your you tube best of health to you friend
Forgot to add the part about buying some property in between my camp and town .. oh well this was just done on the fly and one of the hardest videos I've ever made ..
I, like all or most here live vicariously through your videos. There is so much trash on the tube it's enjoyable to wonder off on a trail with you, your hounds and the mules. I'm your age and recently retired. It was difficult as I enjoyed the relationships with my coworkers, but like you said there are things we need to get busy doing. And the clock is ticking. Like one of the guys said we are making memories for our kids and grandkids. Well, it's also for us. When the day comes we can no longer hit the trail it will be the memories that sustain us in old age. So good luck on your next chapter and I hope to see you someday on the trail in the South Seco or the Animas.
Glad to hear you’re going to continue uploading, you’re my favorite hunting/outdoor channel. When I watch your videos I feel as if I’m right there with you in the desert slowly picking through the country watching the dogs work their way to a lion track. It’s a feeling I just don’t get from the channels with higher production costs and film crews; it makes your content so genuine and real. Whenever I’ve seen that you’ve uploaded it brightens my day. Best of luck to ya and I hope this new year is kind to you and your family.
Yeah editing is very time consuming. But it gets faster as you go. Excellent watch here. I've always wanted to explore on horse back. What a wonderful experience you share with us!
I run hounds myself. And when I'm swamped with work and can't hunt I flip on your channel. Thank you. I really appreciate the interviews with the old hound doggers.
Brett, I have 20 yrs on you, I think, stll getting around good…keep up exploring and hunting, of course putting up video’s…..pace yurself, Interviews are so great ! Get over any guilt feeling, you mentioned….Great country you have close ……think of those poor souls trapped in towns….world out there is in a turmoil.. You have it made ! You know it ! Thanks Brett. 👍🏻🤠
Thanks Julio .. hope I'm getting around like you when I get there ... funny story years ago me and friend of mine was on our 6th day packing across the wilderness in December .. we had been rained on most of the day the day before with it turning to snow and ice when we decided to camp.. everything we had was frozen solid .. lash ropes you could hold and they would stick out stiff like a 2x4 .. we were drinking our coffee sitting on a rock in the sun trying to thaw out ... we were tired dirty sore and cold ... he looked at me and said " I wonder what all those poor people are doing in town today"
I built an entire cabin 16x16 several years back and set out to do it without power tools. All 1x12 rough cut cedar, cypress and pine, my only saw was a silky big boy. Best saw ever made. It made short work of that lumber

I've been hunting in between Hillsborough Lake Valley and backup, too TRC, for the last five years. I'm from the East Coast. I decided to retire in the high desert. It really helps me escape the rat race and just slow down and enjoy Mother Nature. With dark sky's and lots of elbow room. Awesome Part of the country.

Thank you for sharing the beauty of our round earth. Keep doing what you do, stay safe and God bless.
I am getting up there in age too. I come from the high desert of California I lived in el mirage California when there was nothing there but murphy's bar and of course the dry lake. I moved into Adelanto and lived in Oro Grande, and Victorville back in the 1970's I was in my teens and decided I wanted to see what else this world had to offer so my uncle and I headed out for the east coast where my family is from. we jumped on a freight train and headed for Keen NH and onward to Bangor Maine. After that I wanted to see more so off, I went on my own. I spent several years righting freight trains and working here and there. I made enough money and headed out on another train. I have seen just about every town in this great country, and I got a view of this country that most men don't get a chance to see. I guess I got tired and headed back to Bangor Maine where I met My wife of 37 years now and I have lived from Maine to Buffalo NY for the past 30 or so years. I am not one who likes the cold to me it's a nightmare. I am so damn depressed from all the long cold winters that it has disabled me. The only thing I do now is sit and wait for the winter to end long enough to get outside fishing or metal detecting with my two sons. I feel like I have thrown years of my life away and never to recover because what's gone, we can never get back. We only live once. I am stuck here because of several reasons I can't mention. but I wish I were in that wide open California desert right now or in the 4th engine back on a freight train headed through the Colorado mountains up into Powers Lake ND. I wish now I could be in that beautiful open desert you are in right now. I would give anything to walk on that sandy soil instead of looking at the six-foot banks of snow and the temp down to zero. I agree with you 1000% life is to short we should enjoy every second of it while we can. but for me I want to do it where it's warm or hot as hell. Thank you for sharing your videos with us. "God Bless"
Thank you .. hopping freight trains sounds like a lot of good adventure ... I guess it just boils down to freedom.. It's a shame you can't get out of that winter cold if it gnaws on you that bad.. one of these days maybe?? God bless you and good luck
Over a 100 thousand views 👍 I was looking at your other videos admiring how far you’ve come. Noticed this one stands out. I wonder how it did so much better than the others ? Stay safe out there brother 👍👍👍👍
Wanted take min to say that I recently found your channel. Have watched non stop past days. Appreciate ur honestly. Am hunt guide in Maine. Really enjoy your country via ur channel.
I just found your channel ,I enjoyed watching your videos, I am 64 years old,I have been chasing hounds for over 30 years now ,its a sickness , I have had the pleasure to hunt with some really good houndsman (one in particular) he is 77 and still going strong ,I find myself in the same position as far as making decisions about the future ,I look forward to watching more of your content , thank you !
i miss trail riding dearly . i came across your channel a week ago and it's taking me back to happier times . so thank you . im 53 with health problems can't do alot .
I just turned 61 in February of 2024. I had a lot of the same thoughts that you had. You can only do so much. Try to live with no regrets. Try to do good things and the rest will fall into place.

Good to see you out enjoying the trails. I love getting notifications that you have a new video out. Looking forward to lots more. P.S. if you ever want to come hunt lions in southeast Wyoming, we have lots of them and if I got to tag along I wouldn’t be mad.
You had me worried that you were going to quit riding! Glad you quit work instead 👏. What you do is just the best. I just love it. Many thanks and keep it up. English Roger.
Your comment reminds me of what a mountain man said to another in the mini-series "Centennial" (1970s) when his partner told him that he wanted to go back to civilization and become wealthy, or some such: "Why"??? After asking his partner this brief question, he gestured in a sweeping motion to the landscape which surrounded them both at that moment......mountains, forests, valleys, rivers, in all their glorious and magnificent colors as if to say, "Look at all this land around you; it's all YOURS! You are already richer than Midas! You own it all! What more could you want!"
You're right...I'm 50 this year. But this feeling/idea you've got, its like the same wind across the whole earth, and...I reckon everybody is feeling this same wind. Well those one's whose minds are still intact! Cheers.
Happy New Year and Happy birthday. I'll be 68 in March. Be sure you get a college degree and a new pen to fill out all the paperwork that comes with hitting 65
I understand you having to stop doing some things. I'm only 56 , I've got to do some things that I want. Before I have to stop. Love watching your videos. God Bless you and your family
I am 67 going on 68 few months, enjoy your retirement. I was force to retire early, wish I could continue riding horse (sever bad back). I live in northern Az in Payson. Great riding horses high desert desert & forest. I just started watching your videos as they remind me what like 100+ yrs ago in open desert your mule & dogs. I am old west re-enactor. Where are these filmed?
Thanks for watching ... sorry about your back .. I have been around Payson before that is some good country .. most everything is down in Southern New Mexico
Yep, be done with work and enjoy every day, "your way!"..It was a total game changer for me!...You're a bad ass and you have great content!...Happy New Year brother💪🤝...and remember, "Every man lives two lives., the second one starts when he realizes he's only lived one".
Good luck with the next chapter of your life. You'll be fine and do well. Glad it's not videos you're quitting! You had me concerned for a bit! Lol. Keep up the good work, I'll be watching.
Just came across this channel and comment. I lived in Brazil (Minas Gerais) so I speak português. Aí a Antônio, irmão americano do sul ! Viva na cidade ?
Hey old timer!.. I’m turning 63 on Jan 23 … ( two more day) … I’m planning on living the overland lifestyle come this spring… getting a small rv and taking off for wilderness areas… hopefully I’ll be mostly alone and not run into sheeple too much 😆
Congrats you old terd Im the same age and you start to look at life differently Keep on getting out I ride the Mendocino Yolo Bollys in northern California
i just turned 62,, always lived in the mountains,, central idaho,,,,,,and you are right a guy has trim the list down,, the older i get the faster the time seems to go by,,,,,,,like how many more hunting years are left,,,should i be doing somethings i never got around to doing,,, changes things around, serious stuff, the clock is ticking,,,,,,
Turned 56 today. Age is weighing heavy on my mind. Spent so many years working like a dog and watching down turns take everything i made. I am thinking a house at 56 is out of the question. I need to find some land and get it paid off. Then start with an old oil patch shack to live in and go from there. I want to treasure hunt full time as it's good for my soul... However one must be able to feed himself and i barely have anything saved to retire so i'll be working till i'm 70 at the VA so i can have some sort of retirement.
You know what they say .. Best time to start was 30 years go ..next best time is right now .. you can make it happen .. good luck and Thanks for watching PS I love to treasure hunt also
Brett I came to that same conclusion several years ago and now am living the good life....do a little weekend drag Racing at our local dragstrip, go fishing in the spring and fall, and follow a couple hounds around .....don't put off what your meant to do.... cause that time that makes us all equal is closing in on us fast.
Natural surroundings are regenerative. I'm 66, and waiting for the long sleep. The World I live in is miserably sleepless. My neighbors do everything they can to prevent me from ever sleeping in this realm.
I think it is important to do what you can now. I once had a couple of bird dogs and spent some of the highlights of my life with them off in the woods and on the hills and along the rivers, but my strong legs and athletic dogs eventually fizzled out, and now I haven't even got a dog since I bounce back and forth between Thailand and The PNW of the USA. One day, your mule will be too tired out and those dogs will tree their last bear and you can do something else. But do all you can with what you have while you have it. Live every day.
Feeling the same way. Retired early, moved out of the country and travel Internationally checking that bucket list. You might enjoy the book “Uncle Dick Wooten”. He is a mountain man long gone but had quite the life. New sub!
Good to here your choice. I have been thinking the same things for the past few years. Decided do what’s important to me - horseback That’s where I need to be and feel the best. So stay curious and explore my friend. Maybe one day our trails will cross. Still hoping for your long distance stage route trail. Ride
Just need more time ... one of these days I would like for you to show me some of that north country .. like you I feel the best when I'm out and about on my mules .. Thanks
I'm so glad to find your channel I am a 64 year old horse person who loves to drive I am most comfortable driving singles I have three mares bred to a gypsy Vanner It will take the foals one year to get here three-and-a-half years training and growing I hope to have the finest unicorn in the country by the time I'm 70 And then I want to do a little traveling with them Onward and upward May our dreams live on...
My Ruth mule is trained to pull a wagon .. I don't know much about it but think it would sure be fun to do in the summer .. good luck on the unicorn .. sounds like a good plan Onward and Upward ..
Congratulations on your decision, I’m in the same situation. The more time I spend on our cabin property in Southern Colorado, then the more I want to be there working on projects. My one drawback, the $$ maker is in SW Kansas. God bless you in your endeavors.
I live in the high desert in Arizona too. Wondering where you are. New subscriber. Peace and nature. Lost mom December 2019, father in law died in December 2020 he was 85 still engineering marine corps league built a kit plane and had engine failure on the maidan voyage. The step dad last October. Hub’s and I turned 55 this year and realizing how few days we have left to do what we want to before heaven.
I'm in Southern New Mexico ... at 85 in a plane he built himself sounds like a good way to go I guess .. Yes it gets you to thinking about how much time you have left and all the things you still want to do .. good luck and get after it .. Thank you
Boy if I lived close to you I would be going on those trips too. Love love love ruffian it… been riding most my life but don’t even know if I could do it anymore…love watching and wishing I could be there too…
Good luck Brett, I retired at 62 with everything paid off. Life seem much less stressful. Warning people think you have a lot of spare time for them because your retired👍🏻
@@BrettVaughnB100 It's all good I'll check em out...are you in Arizona area ? I'm from Florida and got acreage in SE GA. I am a Hunter but your Back Country Camping and trips are very exciting keep em coming Brother 🫶👍🤙
Love the high country. Lived in Nevada for years, but found a home in Montana, the Last, Best Place. Nearly 60 myself. Wish I had found Montana 40 years ago!
I really enjoy the different places you go. But at the end I try to guess how many miles you have gone. Love the hounds and Lucy and Ruth. Thanks for the videos
Thanks my friend for all the adventures I hate to see you go, but I truly understand where I am in retirement too. I have enjoyed your adventures so much I find them very relaxing and calming and things I wanted to do but never had to chance, but you’re right God only gives us so much timeand will never do all the things we wanna do like you I’m up in age and the old body when I do what are used to so happy trails my friend God bless you one day maybe I’ll meet you on the other side
You better not be done!! Nobody likes a quitter! Ha! Watching your videos, I do miss the desert.....and my horses! My poor old mule is sure looking rough. She is about 40 years old now. Lars on Survival Russia is always talking about those saws. He has a bunch of silky saws. They look really good. I've been tempted to buy one. They ain't cheap though. Hoopy road? Hopi maybe? I'm confused.....but I get that way easy! I feel the same way about the videos. At first I felt foolish talking to myself, but then I realized I wasn't....just talking to folks in advance! Editing is a pain. CONGRATS on retirement! I don't have many more subs than you, and I think we share a lot of them. I do have quite a few new ones though, so I'll put the word out. Maybe we can get you a few more!
Its hooptie or hoopie .. like a buggy? .. just heard it used lots here lately by some old timers lol.. any help is appreciated .. talking to folks in advance .. I like that lol Thanks
Could you give us a list again of the stuff you use when you are packing up into the mountains? I am really interested in having one of those folding saws. My little saws are just crap. Yours looks like it is really sharp. Thanks.
Keep it up Brent. I’ll keep watching. Congrats on the sale if your business and much respect for following your dreams. Dream Big and grind. It will work.
I think you'll see an uptick when you have time to post more content. I am a few years from where you are now and thinking hard about it. Happy New Year
I'm 73, female punched cows for 43 years thruput thewest. Sold my last horse last Feb. In 2022. Now I'm just traveling in my truck n camper... you're right can't do it all and after my big horse wrecknin Feb. I knew it needed to be the horse to go and I could travel. My second love... cowboyin was first but I'd retired from that in 2014. But rode and camp with my horse after retirement in the high country of colo in summers and in winters southern Utah.
I know how you feel im 84 yrs old seems i have done it all fishing boats, sail boat races to Bermuda, no more boats, then i bought a couple of air stream trailers criss cross the country many times met many people many good times now i am into air planes have a 1946 taylor craft there is nothing like retirement, all i can say is do not quit take one day at a time, i have slowed down a little i enjoy your videos capt.norm
..Hey man.. Muskrat sent me.. I hear what you are saying about running out of time. My grandkids think I'm the craziest old man that ever lived. Now I have to spend the rest of my life proving it to them..

It had too .. and hopefully not the money go too lol Thanks
A man is rich in proportion to the things he can do without ! 💪🏻
That is a fact ... Thanks
Cheers.
Yes there is something in the wind for sure .. Thanks
Happy New Year and
Happy birthday.
I'll be 68 in March. Be sure you get a college degree and a new pen to fill out all the paperwork that comes with hitting 65
I will take my wife she is real good at paperwork lol .. Thank you for your support !!

Yeah, math gets real after 50. Time and energy becomes a shrinking commodity. Stay sharp brother 👍👍👍👍
It does make you think for sure ... Thanks seller
You riding & filming fills our soul.
Thank you .. that means a lot to me !!!
Yep, be done with work and enjoy every day, "your way!"..It was a total game changer for me!...You're a bad ass and you have great content!...Happy New Year brother💪🤝...and remember,
"Every man lives two lives., the second one starts when he realizes he's only lived one".
Thank you .... I really appreciate that ... Happy New Years to you too ... great saying too
61 is still very young. Just stay healthy, and you will have plenty of time and energy to do the things you want to do.
Thank you .. I am going to try
Good luck with the next chapter of your life. You'll be fine and do well. Glad it's not videos you're quitting! You had me concerned for a bit! Lol. Keep up the good work, I'll be watching.

Estilo de vida muito saudável que eu preciso aplica na minha vida, homem da montanha. 👍👏👏👏👊
Sí, lo es... más que mi trabajo... es bueno que tú también puedas vivir de esa manera... Gracias.
Just came across this channel and comment. I lived in Brazil (Minas Gerais) so I speak português. Aí a Antônio, irmão americano do sul ! Viva na cidade ?
First time watching, just love it. Packed in one time with some friends when I was a lot younger dear hunting. Best time ever. Great videos!
I do enjoy it thanks
Carry on, you got lots of time left, I’m 83 and still rocking on, life is good
Hey old timer!.. I’m turning 63 on Jan 23 … ( two more day) … I’m planning on living the overland lifestyle come this spring… getting a small rv and taking off for wilderness areas… hopefully I’ll be mostly alone and not run into sheeple too much 😆
My kind of guy .. good luck and enjoy sounds like a good way to finish .. Thanks!
Congrats you old terd Im the same age and you start to look at life differently Keep on getting out I ride the Mendocino Yolo Bollys in northern California
Thanks .. yep you do .. you do the same keep getting out .. Thanks
Good luck hope you get what you need to keep making videos. really like watching.
I appreciate it! I have and still making them Thanks
i just turned 62,, always lived in the mountains,, central idaho,,,,,,and you are right a guy has trim the list down,, the older i get the faster the time seems to go by,,,,,,,like how many more hunting years are left,,,should i be doing somethings i never got around to doing,,, changes things around, serious stuff, the clock is ticking,,,,,,
Yes sir .. you just have to understand that some things you can't do but try to do the things that you like the most .. Thanks
Best time to start was 30 years go ..next best time is right now .. you can make it happen .. good luck and Thanks for watching PS I love to treasure hunt also
Thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
More to come! Thanks
So true .. glad you figured it out and are doing it .. Thanks !
Natural surroundings are regenerative. I'm 66, and waiting for the long sleep. The World I live in is miserably sleepless. My neighbors do everything they can to prevent me from ever sleeping in this realm.
Sorry to hear that ... I guess we are all waiting for the long sleep .. I just have some things I need to do before it starts .. Thank you
I think it is important to do what you can now.
Yes I will .. that is the plan .. Thank you
I just watched your video and I just love your attitude and love for life! Your character really shines through 🥰
Thank you very much ... I edit out the bad parts lol ..
Me too?just turned 68 yrs old, I gave, up Long haul Trucking. Now ease through
Feeling the same way. Retired early, moved out of the country and travel Internationally checking that bucket list. You might enjoy the book “Uncle Dick Wooten”. He is a mountain man long gone but had quite the life. New sub!
Thats good ... I will look up the book .. Thank you
Good to here your choice.
Thanks
All the best to you , l retired at 62 now I run a few cows and hunt life is good .
Perfect .... Thanks
if life is too hard or too easy it's just not that much fun. thanks for a glimpse into something i don't know anything about.
Your welcome .. glad you watched .. and you are right Thanks
I'm so glad to find your channel
I am a 64 year old horse person who loves to drive
I am most comfortable driving singles
I have three mares bred to a gypsy
Vanner
It will take the foals one year to get here three-and-a-half years training and growing
I hope to have the finest unicorn in the country by the time I'm 70
And then I want to do a little traveling with them
Onward and upward
May our dreams live on...
My Ruth mule is trained to pull a wagon .. I don't know much about it but think it would sure be fun to do in the summer .. good luck on the unicorn .. sounds like a good plan Onward and Upward ..
More Power to you, Good Luck🍀. Really enjoy your channel. 🐕
Thank you ..
Love your videos man! Much love from Rim Country, AZ.
Thank you!
Congratulations on your decision, I’m in the same situation. The more time I spend on our cabin property in Southern Colorado, then the more I want to be there working on projects. My one drawback, the $$ maker is in SW Kansas. God bless you in your endeavors.
I know what you mean ... one of these days you can do it ... Thanks Todd!
PLEASE, do NOT ever stop posting videos. You are one of the LAST.

Love the high country. Lived in Nevada for years, but found a home in Montana, the Last, Best Place. Nearly 60 myself. Wish I had found Montana 40 years ago!
Montana is sure is nice glad you found it when you did at least .. Thanks
I really enjoy the different places you go. But at the end I try to guess how many miles you have gone. Love the hounds and Lucy and Ruth. Thanks for the videos
Your welcome .. most of the time I measure it and like you I try to guess .. Thanks
@@BrettVaughnB100 Neat! I've never heard that term before.
Seems so peaceful out there. Wish i could find me a nice spot out there, tent, lawn chair, nice scenery and a few beers will do it
You and me both! I will find some places soon .. thanks

Very good video Brett glad you are going to keep the videos coming hope the best in your retirement enjoy life my friend
Thank you George .. I will try
Thanks Chris.. I'm going to try ..
I think you'll see an uptick when you have time to post more content. I am a few years from where you are now and thinking hard about it. Happy New Year
