Okami No..... Thom must have been in heaven and it shows on his face. From one Icon to another. Incredible performance . 👌🏽 it so suited Michael’s voice.
Michael Stipe is a class act, he learnt all of the words, which so many people don't do and they stutter when covering a song, shows he has total respect for Radiohead, and is a class man.
Learning all the words is the bare minimum to doing a cover haha. He deserves praise for his performance, but not for knowing the words the song he's singing.
It reminds me of the time in meeting people is easy when him and Michael are drinking wine on a staircase and Thom is like smiling about being seen with him.
It was as if Thom wrote this song with Michael in mind..... he seems so pleased with himself too. It’s perfect 👌🏽. It gives me shivers to watch this and hear Michael’s voice singing whileThom watches on. What a pair of genius they are.
Its so weird hearing this song with someone else's voice. Thom's voice is so distinct, and such a signature part of all Radiohead songs. That being said, Michael Stipe did an amazing job.
I just want to tell you one thing: R.E.M. was (and they always will be) the first important alternative band. Radiohead, Nirvana, etc. wouldn´t exist without them. Their voices are different, but both of them are great.
No Velvet Underground, and you don't have any of the bands (who all cited them as major influences on them) listed in the O.C. and the subsequent replies
Kevin Le Yes agreed. Two of my favourite singers on stage together. The only possible thing that could have made it better was to have Neil Young up there with them.
Thom Yorke has acknowledged REM as a major influence on his songwriting. In fact, most bands of the alt rock genre can thank REM. Personally, I think Stipe did a good job on this song, and I think Thom Yorke is kind of blown away by having someone he so clearly admires singing HIS song.
I was at this show. Before I saw this, I always thought that Michael Stipe would be perfect for doing vocals on this song. Underrated aspect of the lightning strike in RFK the prior day was that Patti Smith wasn't around to do E-Bow with R.E.M. so Thom York did her part. No disrespect to Smith intended, but it was quite unique to hear York do her part.
I get goosebumps every time I hear the opening few lines. Michael totally nailed this song and Thom, 🤔 well Thom looks like the cat that has all the cream. I think he’s played this day out in his mind and now it’s actually happening. Totally brilliant.
This is seriously good... If you are not a blind, mad, totally lost fan of REM or Radiohead (but you simply love them both) you can really appreciate this featuring. It's a wonderful version.
After the Monster Tour when Radiohead opened for REM is when both bands started sounding like the other. This is very interesting and delicious. This must be from the same concert where Thom Yorke sat in on E-bow.
Not only is lucky NOT a 6/10 song, it is a signature song they do @ almost every show! One of there best for sure, not just on OK Computer but from their whole catalogue!
radiohead and Mmichael Stip.... nice combination! BTW... Anyone who doubts the vocal chops that Micheal has needs needs to see him sustain those last couple of notes. Strenght and clarity..done with a smile on hi face. pure talent...
my two favourite artists , they spine tingle me , move me till my blood runs wild ,they turn me inside out . my pretend lovers . christ i wish Thom was my love , in my dreams . obsessed
Awesome moment for Thom... listening to Michael singing "the best song they've made" (ok computer era) plus the fact Stipe is a great influence in Thom's work, it's just incredible!
I feel this is because he had notice of the performance and probably practiced and learned the words and how he would sing it completely. If you watch the documentary This Way Up, it shows how Michael chose this song to play with Radiohead and Thom Yorke picked the song Be Mine to play with REM.
i have had this audio recording for eleven years. it is /so/ surreal to be seeing the video for the first time. this performance with Stipe is so sodden and depressing and beautiful. but it makes me smile and takes me so far back. saddest baldest song ever.
Leerte a ti es como leerme a mí, de toda la gente que conozco nadie es fan de REM como yo, por eso me tengo que meter a internet, pero bueno, aunque seas una desconocida, qué gusto que haya alguien a quien le guste REM tanto como a mí.
I'm on a roll I'm on a roll, this time I feel my luck could change Kill me Sarah Kill me again with love It's gonna be a glorious day Pull me out of the air crash Pull me out of the lake 'Cause I'm your superhero We are standing on the edge The head of state, has called for me, by name But I don't have time for him It's gonna be a glorious day! I feel my luck could change Pull me out of the air crash Pull me out of the lake 'Cause I'm your superhero We are standing on the edge
This version makes the original sound like Radiohead covered a R.E.M. song Honestly an amazing song, Michael absolutely smashed it! Two of the best bands of all time, they’re incredible and both in my top five
I always thought of this as a Radiohead song through and through, and yes, they wrote it. But hearing Michael's voice sing these lyrics, I almost forget that fact and start to think of this as some lost R.E.M. song. These lyrics are just perfect for him to cover.
WOW, With a Tibet's flag on the back ground. That is so so so my first time seeing Radiohead's stage with Tibetan Flag. Cheers Radiohead. You guys rock.
siempre estare enamorado de la musica de REM es unica y muy especial por lo q me considero fan de corazon ....y radiohead es una banda q su musica es impresionante y bella...
Can't even imagine how happy Thom must've been to have one of his favorite musicians singing his song.
Okami No..... Thom must have been in heaven and it shows on his face. From one Icon to another. Incredible performance . 👌🏽 it so suited Michael’s voice.
Kurt would've loved this just as much too btw. #fuckcourtneylove
Stipe probably saved thoms life. Thom couldn't handle the life. Thank God.
@@giasieboldofski8192 ...........
@@giasieboldofski8192 Courtney Love has nothing to do with this, Kurt Cobain shot himself in the face and it is painfully obvious.

Thats called being a profesional bruh, nothing special with that, but that should be expected if you're a famous figure
especially since michael stipe can barely remember the words to his own songs lol
Learning all the words is the bare minimum to doing a cover haha. He deserves praise for his performance, but not for knowing the words the song he's singing.
Love how stoked Thom looks through the whole thing.
Thom is super stoked, as if he wrote the song with Stipe in mind and he was finally watching everything unfold at last.
It reminds me of the time in meeting people is easy when him and Michael are drinking wine on a staircase and Thom is like smiling about being seen with him.
This entire comment just makes these entire ordeal very adorable

wow this song is perfect for michael's voice
My reaction completely!! :-O
It was as if Thom wrote this song with Michael in mind..... he seems so pleased with himself too. It’s perfect 👌🏽. It gives me shivers to watch this and hear Michael’s voice singing whileThom watches on. What a pair of genius they are.
I know! Everytime i hear it i think of him now
Its so weird hearing this song with someone else's voice. Thom's voice is so distinct, and such a signature part of all Radiohead songs. That being said, Michael Stipe did an amazing job.
Give Warren Haynes’ version a listen.
Michael has balded quite gracefully. You can't say that about a lot of people.
cominroitover80: Meanwhile, Thom's let his hair grow out in his later years and, as a result, now looks like a homeless heroin junky.
Phil has something to say about that...
@@_lambert_1785 dang, look for the 2020 amateur interview he did, his hair looks kinda good tbh :) fits with the glasses

The Pixies?? Even Nirvana and Radiohead adored them...nothing against the great REM though
Indeed

Soo beautiful there are no words better for this feeling inside this universe. It's a tragic and beautiful rainy day.
I like how he just nails it, then walks off at the end like it was just another day at work.
For a man that talented, every day is another job well done.
One of the greatest moments in music history.
Why?
Because Michael Stipe is singing Fucking Radiohead
Kevin Le Yes agreed. Two of my favourite singers on stage together. The only possible thing that could have made it better was to have Neil Young up there with them.
Tyler Large Of course. Well said my friend.
Thom singing on E-bow slightly edges it for me

thom's smile is so funny. he's so happy to be performing with one of his favorite artists
Reminds me of a Simpsons character, maybe Barney
Radiohead have to be one of the best bands ever - right up there.
Love this song but I love Michael Stipe singing it. I think he conveys the song well.
even though im so used to hearing Thom, Stipe's performance is nothing short of spectacular. this is incredible!
This gives goosebumps every single time, such a great song and Micheal Stipe does it Amazingly. Radiohead and REM and shit hot.
Talking to my other self. Nice one from the future
Goosebumps absolutely.

I always thought this sounded more like a REM song than a Radiohead song, so it's pretty cool to hear Stipe singing it.
This could be an REM song and I never realized
If you think about it, a song like "Sweetness Follows" could easily be a Radiohead one.
One of my favourite Radiohead songs sung by one of my favourite vocalists.
Perfect collaboration, two musical geniuses right there! Ok three, Jonny too :)
This just might be my favorite UA-cam video ever.
Imagine Thom's version of Shiny Happy People? I would kill to witness that!
Christ, you can feel the energy through the screen

@NoCatStrangling Actually, apparently it was Thom Yorke's dream to have Michael Stipe sing with his band. He looked up to him a lot.
The next day at the Capital at the free Tibet rally Thom reciprocated and sang an REM song with Michael and REM playing! Best moment ever.
