Hi Mike, I’m an Aussie stormchaser who travels the Great Plains every year for the last 25 years catching storms and tornadoes and watching trains a fair bit too (usually sat at a crossing waiting for them to pass thru). LOL It usually happens around us and can get dicey as I am sure you know. Our protection comes from "Wiggins" hill which seems to kick storms north or south of us. Thanks Mike, for another good look at #5. As to the Blue Sweatshirt guy; he got denied boarding for some reason. In my working days on this same Train, it (sometimes) was possible to buy transportation ( a ticket) without a Reservation, depending on the situation. In this case- he didn’t qualify. I think this Conductor made the right call.

I see more denied passage as they don't show on the manifest. The ither reason is one of safety for the crew and the passengers. Or at least that I what I have been informed of. AMTRAK looks after their own without the TSA getting involved. I can just see the rural stations being erased and passage only granted at the major cities if TSA were involved. I think they do a darned good job of it. I do remember from several years back that people would be allowed to purchase seats from the conductors with cash. Sometimes psgrs at unstaffed stations would have a Res #, which the Condr could verify, then handle it accordingly. Thx again for your videos!
I see someone is taking the #6 Martinez to Reno. I have taken the same ride but I had paper tickets and there were station agents, that tells you how long ago that was. The #6 was 4 hours late into Reno, hour stop in Truckee for medical emergency. The #5 coming all the way from Chicago was only 10 minutes late into Reno, I consider that on time. I traveled in February so plenty of snow in the Sierra's, some light flurries over Donner summit. It beats driving over the summit in winter. I see the Cargill facility is lit up like a Christmas tree this morning. The situation out on the road you described sounds like a complete mess. I often wandered why you decided to settle in Fort Morgan after retiring from the Navy... another career. Makes sense. Were you born and raised in Colorado? Did you enlist somewhere in Colorado? Good afternoon, Ted; Thank you for tuning in as well as the comments. Yep. I envy that trip thru the Sierras. My time will roll around. That pane shows up brightly during the early mornings. The amount of traffic is also brightly lit with the first shift headed in for "robe up" and get ready for the day. The second shift is much the same only in daylight. Their third shift is maintenance and cleaning crews who provide the counterpart to the inflow of traffic. It does get messy once in a while. Can't think of a better place than right in front of WallMart located on that same road. I refuse to step foot in that place. I was hatched in southeastern Nebraska. My father was a schoolteacher, and we lived in a couple other communities moving here in 1958. Both of the parents really liked this community. I did graduate from High School here. Joined the Navy from here as well. Anyway, Jeopardy is on, and I have become habituated to that program. Have a great evening out there. Please take care and stay safe!

I happened to see the near full moon via a Virtual Railfan camera at Karney, Nebraska this morning. Then went hunting for it on a couple other cameras. Yep. It was there all bright and shiny.
