The Chords, Purple Hearts, Squire etc were part of my teens as a young Mod from Belfast during the revival period. Still sounds fantastic all these years later 😎
the chords lp was better than in the city......so had the potential to be a rival to the jam and if allowed to devlope potentially superior. just my opinion !!! mods rule.@@williammark3210
Strange to see the comments talking about how great the British way of life is or lamenting that it’s “gone” when the whole point of the song is a protest against it, seems like it flew over a lot of people’s head. Reminds me of how Americans regard Born In The USA as a patriotic song when it’s the exact opposite.
dirty streets like dirty dreams ????????????? for your best friend plenty of shops with nothing in stock never seems to end (never seems to end) a cinema, a bowling green a culture to preserve everyone always staring at each other but no one speaks a word (is it a) dream or is it ?????????? (does it) always rain or is it sunny, sunny this is the british way of life i sallow my dreams like my beer sunday dinner with the wife now cos nothing new happens here i work all week in the company office don't even know my name i feel so cold, make me feel old nothing will ever change drink with the boys every weekend to the future and the queen think i'll marry the girl who lives down the road and support my local team
Listening again now most of the '79 stuff (apart from the Jam and some Secret Affair) was pretty shit in my view - I loved it at the time but glad I discovered soul, R&B, ska etc - which the 79 stuff led me into...
It's called choice, if no one else is going to sing a song that you've written, in the style you want it sung then you have to do it yourself. Unlike the voice where people can questionably sing someone else's song ( well ) but , couldn't right a decent song to save their lives.
CHORDS a cut above the rest such a classic band 😎👍 ......
British way of life now GONE
R.I.P GB x
They weren’t speaking fondly of it.
The greatest time for music...vibrant..new kick ass..lived for the next Melody Maker and NME
Can't be beaten never ever British way of life❤

What a great song fantastic memories
Really identified with this growing up in Belfast and being a mod at that time.
Did you listen to The Blades from Ireland?
The Chords, Purple Hearts, Squire etc were part of my teens as a young Mod from Belfast during the revival period. Still sounds fantastic all these years later 😎
I remember buying this single when I was the DJ in a youth parochial hall dance in Belfast . HAF Mods.
I saw Chris Pope, perform this in November 2009 and it still sounds great!
The best mod revival band
Thats true i like them for the rest of my life Mods Mods Mods
obvs..the jam was the best..but the chords have to be the best of the rest
the chords lp was better than in the city......so had the potential to be a rival to the jam and if allowed to devlope potentially superior. just my opinion !!! mods rule.@@williammark3210
I'd say The Chords were #3 in the top mod revival bands. The Jam being #1 and The Lambrettas being #2. All the others... meh IMHO.
@@damonlevine They were far better than The Lambrettas.
A wish it was 1979 😁
Agree that was a great year for music.
Ohhhh masannnnn, me TOO.
Best Mod Hyme ever !!!!

Loved the Chords ....
Happy memories

The best band that came out of the revival, stifled by Polydor
as much as I like The Chords - The Jam were simply better....they just had stronger songs.
@@TheGrandmasterMan but for a debut Album what a statement and if only the'd had decent management they could have been massive
So many great bands from that era: Merton Parkas (I've never understood the hate), The Directions, Cigarettes, Small Hours... fantastic music.
@@AgentOck The Merton Parkas were dreadful.
@@VincentRE79 Judged on one single, good album.

Head and shoulders above the other 'mod' revival groups.

Possibly sacrilege, but I like the Chords better than The Jam..
Same. They should have been massive.
Tune! or do I need to make one of those stupid fukin gansta hand signs to be hip now
Listening again now most of the '79 stuff (apart from the Jam and some Secret Affair) was pretty shit in my view - I loved it at the time but glad I discovered soul, R&B, ska etc - which the 79 stuff led me into...
David Martin ditto mate, got into nsoul scene at 16via mod scene
Because nothing else happens here
brilliant record, then to the extreme of sx 225 which has to be the worst mod revival record.
Chris Pope and the bloody Chords UK are utter shite compared to this.....Brilliance
Who is not in the Chords UK?
How come Brit Mod revival bands couldn't really sing? Decent song-they just couldn't sing. None of those guys really could...
mate if you want Frank Sinatra you're on the wrong page ;)

Drummer wasn't very good, bad timing
Keith Moon style, not shite
