I have two. Stunning instrument. It's airtight, agile, extremely easy to bend. It allows for complex tricky tunes where you need to fly up and down, in and out. The sound is rich and true. Makes the Chromonica sound like a toy. The incredibly easy disassembly and reassembly, mean you can maintain it very easily and deal with all the usual sticking issues that come with wind-savers as well as clean it regularly and painlessly. It's loud without the need to strain. The airtight nature of the instrument is liberating. If there are any downsides, for me it's that the plastic mouthpiece can dry easily during play, meaning you can stick. You learn to compensate for this by licking it during play. Maybe I also disagree with the noiselessness of the slide, it does click when the button is depressed. Summing up. I am in love with my CX12s. They make me want to play. They make me ambitious about tackling complex tunes. It would be my Desert Island Discs luxury
My CX12 has the noisiest slide on the planet when it comes to recordings, very clicky and noticeable . But it's disassembly time is the fastest I've ever seen of almost any Chromatic. The Chinese knock off , the WH12 Golden Butterfly is equally as fast. I've got them both down to under 5 seconds.
Hi bro, can you give me a little advice - does Wh12 need lot more air to play(compared with cx12)? i wanna get one, because have not enought money for Hohner...sorry for my English))
Open it up, give the reed a flick with a fine gauge. Also, check the two windsavers haven't stuck together, separate them carefully with a pin. Make sure it's warm also before you play.
OK......I think I can disassemble it. Haven't tried yet. Now, I own 3 CX12s. Only one is marked which key it is in. How do I determine the keys of the other 2 harps, please? I know......how stupid! I never professed to be a "Harmonicist." I'm also old (84) and I learned that being old and stupid at the same time, is NOT multi-tasking!
I've been considering buying. What would really sell me is if they made a model with a brass, nickel or silver plated cover. Plastic is just a big turn off for me. For years harmonica players have fought the stigma that this isn't a legitimate instrument, that it's a toy . . . and what do Hohner do? They make a plastic one. Like a toy
Q U E S T I O N --- Q U E S T I O N , P L E A S E - P R O B L E M THAT'S UNIQUE TO THE CX-DESIGN CHROMATICS: Unlike the traditional-style chromatics, which merely need the cover plates removed in order to re-adjust any reed, the CX design is somewhat of a problem in that the slide is difficult to hold in place to adjust & play the reeds with the housing/cover removed. Has anyone discovered a solution to facilitating such type of maintenance to the CX-DESIGN chromatics? Thanks a million for any help.
Easttop and Kongsheng have copied this harmonica and they are so cheap and feel better than yours. Hohner makes very good harmonicas but very very expensive, Little by little chinesse harmonicas will be better and cheaper, it is what it is... I hope you are ready for that.
Sorry Hohner, you just lost me as a potential chromatic customer. Bronze Reeds + Plastic Case equals inferior product. What were you thinking? I'll stick with Seydel and Suzuki.
***** This is what respected harmonica technician & customiser Brendan Power says :"The CX-12 is great, I remember when I first saw it at its launch at the 1992 Frankfurt Musik Messe, I was blown away with the cleverness and ergonomic beauty of its design. Snap apart for instant access to the reeds and slider - what a treat compared to the fiddly screws of standard designs!
+Mark Gailmor . . . . BIG mistake! The CX line of Hohners is the most innovative, easily, maintained harmonicas ever produced. They have great tone and volume, and have won awards in design. Plastic ain't what it used to be! Inferior it absolutely AIN'T!

YES!!
You should do one on the Discovery 48 Chromatic Harmonica that you sell
Show me again how to take the harp apart, Please
I have one of those. I tried to play it yesterday and the 2 draw reed is not working.

classic harmonica
I would like to start playing Chromatic Harmonica....Any idea for a beginner?
Hohner Chrometta 8 is the ideal chromatic for a beginner.

i prefer 14 hole for more variety and tunes
I just bought a std black C-12, and the slide is NOT quiet at all. Its rather noisy.
+Randall Ulmer Just like my Buffet clarinet. Enjoy it!
No playing. Its mouth shut.
Slide quiet lol

And that's just one man's opinion. While I respect his comments it's not going to change my mind.
I agree why a plastic case that's just being cheap
