I think Luffy got sandbagged a lot in this conversation even in the discussion of him ranking up because the written test was never about actually getting a high score like Naruto literally didn’t write anything on it and he passed, also we seen from saskue and Lee if you are fast enough you can bypass garra’s sand which I think Luffy would easily and even if you bring up the one tails if we are doing a full swap Luffy doesn’t have to beat the one tail he just has to hit a unconscious garra really hard to “wake him up” lastly pain vs luffy you could argue luffy could just sense him as even Rayleigh was able to sense every animal that was stronger than luffy on the island he trained on and if that is to far of a stretch luffy could use the same method Naruto used with the chakra rods since they are connected to nagato but even without that yes it’s 6 v 1 but luffy is faster, can see into the future, and is arguably physically stronger than sage mode Naruto and the only pain that showed any durability was the deva path the others were literally one shot basically plus the summons are animals you can argue luffy knocks them unconscious with conquers that only valid hard fight is Madara, obito, Kaguya, and finally fight saskue

I think you guys missed the point in luffy vs crocodile, the reason luffy lost to crocodile wasn't because of any sand attacks. Crocodile has the ability to drain moisture out of anything he touches and he defeated Luffy using his moisture absorption ability in both fights, not sand
Tbf any situation where Naruto has the potential to die Kurama comes out. So it’s really can any pre time skip OP character beat Kurama and not necessarily Naruto himself.

@@phantxmblxze the sand in Naruto has never been shown to suck moisture from someone like in one piece. Also what’s the point of mentioning real life sand when these are both fantasy shows. One of Crocodiles abilities is to be able to suck moisture out of people.
Tbh if luffy was in naruto's place, he wouldn't want to be hokage (someone who is stuck at the office), he also wouldn't care about the villagers.

I LOVE how they bring up Naruto and his 1000 shadow clones in Marineford and how they wouldn't know the real one as if they don't got observation haki. When Luffy fought Mr. 3 and Mr. 3 made clones Luffy's subconsciously used haki to hit the real one and this is BEFORE they knew about haki, so she slipped up there
how would observation haki tell which one is real? even the sharigan and byukgan cant and even has senjutsu cant aswell

Shadow clones are unrecognizable from the user. The Byakugan and Sharingan couldn’t tell naruto apart from his clones.

But of course they seem to not understand that it's still a blunt force jab coated in electricity. If we use CM2 Sasuke then he has claws so there's an argument there, but Luffy has survived a similar level of being punctured and the electrical properties of Chidori will do absolutely nothing to Luffy.

I think this was a pretty fair evaluation. However, I think it would be flipped for me. I feel like pre-time skip Luffy would have an easier time than Naruto and post time skip Naruto would have an easier time than Luffy. They mentioned how Luffy isn’t as technical as Naruto and that would be a problem in the fights. However, for me if we’re talking about pre-time skip that wouldn’t really matter. Pre time skip Luffy is way stronger and faster than pre time skip Naruto and the only fight I see becoming an issue for him is Garra’s full transformation after the churning exams. However I don’t think Luffy would even let it get that far. Additionally, I feel like Luffy’s goal of being a free ninja tracks with his character more than Naruto wanting to be in the revolutionary army. My reasoning being is if you look back on what drove Naruto to want to become Hokage in the first place it’s not because he admires them or seeks to be a righteous person. The opening of the show is literally him writing on the Hokage faces and disrespecting them! The real reason is because he wants to be seen and heard that’s his whole motivation throughout the show and I know he later revises that once he starts getting it after the Pain fight. However, I just don’t see him seeking that out in the one piece verse in the same sense of how Luffy has always wanted to be free since he was a kid. I feel like if anything Naruto would be either a normal person or join the marines like Coby. Since it seemed like they were just assuming Naruto would know the marines are bad and additionally he would even be able to find the army in the first place to join them.

To be honest, I feel like I agreed in some takes, but keep in mind that Naruto trap himself to not be free anymore when he became Hokage when he become Hokage is his responsibility to deal with everybody’s problem, and what’s going on and it made him not free anymore. On the other hand, Luffy is more freedom. Whatever he is when he becomes the king of the Pirates, he can do whatever he wants. No one is gonna oppose what he does, and he can just be adventure with his friends, all fond of the freedom that everybody wanted. In nature world there is peace, but it’s not freedom. They’re not free. There’s still limitation there’s that’s why it’s hard

This whole Chidori would work on Luffy is very false. As we know electricity doesnt work on Luffy, but for the piercing part of the attack, it also wouldn't work because hands are a blunt force and if you disagree I would like to say that Lucci used Finger Pistol (piercing attack)in his base form on Luffy and it had no effect on because the hand like finger was dull. It was only until Lucci grew sharp claws, that the Finger Pistol worked.

I thought this would be more like Luffy having to live Naruto's life and vice versa. If that were the case, I think both characters will do well. Naruto living Luffy's life would be trained by Garp and he would want to become a good marine just like Garp. Luffy's will would be so strong that Kurama would never take over and he would be so charismatic that he'll win people over. He'll have a much easier time getting Kurama to work with him and controlling the 9 tailed chakra mode. I agree that he will become a rogue ninja and leave the village for adventure.
Narutos will is just as strong if not arguably stronger than Luffys so saying Luffy wouldn’t let kurama take over is a little disingenuous. Both have faltered their wills at some point in their stories. Naruto when Pain almost made him rip off the seal or when Obito mocked his ideology at him when Neji died. Luffy when he thought he lost his crew to kuma or when Ace died. Both instances would’ve made Luffy lose control over kurama. Saying he’d be able to work with kurama easier is also debatable. Similarly to how you can say Naruto has better battle iq so he’d likely come up with better and arguably more creative tactics to use his df.
@jaybronx98 If Luffy were to live Naruto's life where he was an orphan and ostrisized, it wouldn't bother Luffy as much. Yes losing Ace and his crew broke Luffy's will a bit but remember I used the scenario where he's living Naruto's life which referred to his childhood without parents and being ostricized by the village. In One Piece, Luffy didn't know his parents either but you never see him lie in bed and cried about it. That's what I meant. That's just Luffy's personality, even after losing Ace and being separated from his crew, he got over it pretty quick compared to Naruto. I kinda wanted to see him canonically dwell on it a bit more like Naruto lost Jiraiya. Naruto is more emotional and that makes him more vulnerable for Kurama to tempt him to borrow his power. Luffy would never go and demand Kurama to pay rent and lend him power. Luffy is more selfish than Naruto and other protags and he is stubborn as hell. He would never self sacrifice or make bets to save someone. He's not a hero, he's an avenger. His logic is to just beat the shit out of the guy that is threatening people he likes. That's why Luffy will never be Hokage. He doesn't care about the details that don't affect his fights. He's a hyper focused character fixated on achieving his dream and thats why his will is stronger than Naruto's. At least early Naruto. Of course, Naruto eventually gets a strong will too because he is able to endure and take every thing into himself to stop the cycle of hatred but when it comes to getting there, I would say Luffy has less emotional baggage so he'll get there first.

Naruto never lied in bed crying about his parents, he just asked hiruzen where they were. In fact, we see kid luffy cry WAYYYY more than kid naruto in their flashbacks. So much so that again, he was nicknamed after it. So for a op fan, you seem to get a lot of things incorrect about your fav series.
Broke his will a bit?? Luffy damn near passed out from shock when ace died and when he lost his crew he couldn’t do nothing but cry and punch the ground. Naruto was never that broken emotionally. He snapped on tsunade, walked around konoha after learning that jiraiya died and then sat down and cried. And no he didnt get over aces loss “pretty quickly” he still was having nightmares post timeskip. When jiraiya died, naruto grieved but eventually got over it and matured more as a character compared to Luffy.
So again, Luffy would still get taken over by kurama bc he’s just as empathetic towards his friends and family. He is selfish at times but he’s still shown to love those close to him so he’s just as emotional. So no, that doesn’t make his will stronger than narutos. Their wills are definitely interchangeable. The whole point of the series is naruto overcoming hatred. And that theme ends with him finally breaking the cycle of hatred. His will was strong enough to change his destiny. Stop talking biased nonsense.

@@jaybronx98 first of all, Naruto is my favorite anime so don't go making assumptions. One Piece is my favorite manga. I like them both differently but on different mediums. Luffy and Naruto are also my characters in their own series. No bias here.
You act like a Naruto stand but you never even watched the filler where he was a toddler playing with kiba, shikamaru, and other kids but felt lonely and cried in bed after he saw them all got picked up at the playground by their parents.
Again, we are not talking about the nakamas and deaths, we are using scenario where Luffy is living in Naruto's shoes in childhood. Crying or not, Naruto was alone and depressed until he became part of Team 7. It all stems from him being an orphan and not being able to form bonds with anyone. Luffy does not know his parents and we never got a single panel of him taking an interest so how can you say he is impacted the same way? Don't lump Ace's death and the Sabaody incidient, its not 1 to 1. If you want to compare those, you compare those to Naruto's response to Jiraiya's death and his reaction when he returned to Konoha after learning sage mode. But again, I'm not even talking about that. I'm talking about his childhood. stay focused. All I am saying is that Luffy would have a head start because the things that Naruto had to deal with when he was a child-before he became a ninja, are not things that bother Luffy at all. Again! He does not care that he doesn't have parents. Luffy would not be on that swing if he didn't pass. In fact, he would march off and say he will be a ninja even without graduating. That is why I say that I agree with Rob that he will be a rogue ninja.
And another thing, just because Luffy's labeled a crybaby by Ace and Sabo doesn't mean that every time he cries, it is something that affects his will. Kid Luffy was tied up and beaten with spiked gloves and even though he cried, he never gave up Ace and Sabo's secret even though he is a bad liar.
I don't know what you mean by Luffy having nightmares about ace every night? That was only mentioned in the 3D2Y movie. At least filler is anime canon but movies are its own canon. I wouldn't take events that happened in movies into account story-wise. And Ace died in front of Luffy BECAUSE OF LUFFY (in his mind). so that shock was not just about losing someone close, there's also self blame and guilt. Jiraiya did not die in front of Naruto. Luffy got himself together in a day because of Jinbei. Naruto had Iruka cheer him up then he stayed home for a week spaced out then Shikamaru had to drag him out to get through to him. After that, he was tempted to get revenge on Pain. But we haven't seen Luffy even talk about going after Akainu! The 2 years he took to train and that isn't even one of his goals! heck, we don't even know if Luffy will be the one to fight Akainu later on! We don't see Luffy praying to Ace or talking to him on the side somewhere. Naruto builds a shrine and visits Jiraiya right after the Pain fight ended . So how can you not say he did not get over it faster? Even when other people bring up Ace, like how zoro uses that to remind him that its okay not to go after vivi because he didn't go to save ace right away. We didn't even get a moment of Luffy arguing against it. All he did is make a meme face.
Their wills maybe interchangeable mid-series towards the end but not in the beginning. Luffy is getting a head start. Maybe he'll plateau mid series and Naruto would catch up but definitely not at the same pace at the start of the series.

How did you correlate the arcs? Are we going by when they grow in power or just arc by arc? Arc by arc doesn't make sense because One Piece has more arcs than Naruto in pre-ts alone (I think). Going by the former that means we skip all of Romance Dawn basically and after that Luffy would actually start to grow in strength, but which feats on each island do we use? Because even then there are still more pre-ts arcs in One Piece then in Naruto how would it even work?

So I do think Naruto clears One Piece, Luffy on the other hand is not surviving Orochimaru that early on or even Sasuke at some points.
But post timeskip, I think both have arguments for getting far, but Naruto clears up to where we currently are in the manga and Luffy probably stops at Juubidara or Kaguya depending on how you scale them.
