358 million years ago: Giant prehistoric predator dragonfly
Вставка

- Meganeura: With a wingspan up to twenty five inches, the largest known relative to today’s dragonfly, was a powerful predator amongst prehistoric swamplands.
Arthropleura: The long lost cousin of the centerpiece was a herbivore, measuring up to 10 feet.
Scientists are still trying to determine what caused their complete extinction.

Years ago, when we were kids and our parents had a dilemma on how the plants in our house would survive while on a 3 week out of town trip. My Mom just placed all our potted plants in the bathroom and in the middle , let the water droplet drip slowly from the tap on an inverted bucket hoping that the splash would help all the plants survive. A small window provided the sunlight.
When we returned, we were in a shock, the high humidity and the limited sunlight caused the plants to grow taller than usual and have abnormally big leaves as if they were reaching out to the small window.
However, the plants got normal in 3-4 weeks after we put them back. But I could never forget the abnormally big leaves of the plants.
2:04 my boy no :(
Stunning CGI ! One of best I've ever seen. 10 / 10...!
Great narration too .
"lighting can't strike at the same place twice
1:54 *strikes at the same place 4 times*
Well it didn't strike twice soo
It's a myth.
@@jokutyyppi4226 It struck twice twice lol

Seeing the giant Arthropleura get struck by lightning like that and fall made me really sad :-(
Same
Maybe arthropleura lighting could kill them i guess
I mean maybe the arthropleura don't know lighting could kill them i guess
Well, it's nature, nothing you can do to stop it
It made me sad to see this comment while the ad was playing so I have to wait for it to happen and still be sad༼;´༎ຶ ༎ຶ༽
Imagine getting vored by a giant dragonfly
Give Stephen King's The Mist a watch
I would have paid you *not* to say that
How about not?
that'd be metal as fuck
Dragon flies are still huge
Air becomes "thinner" as humidity increases. In fact, cold, dry air with high barometric pressure is best for lift. Also, while there is no scientifically plausible way this could have occurred in the earth's past, a lower gravity would also assist in flight. A more thorough understanding of how gravity works might allow for a variation to be plausible in the future, but for now it is considered inconceivable.
Yeah back in my days where humidity didn’t exist we used to say “he/she disappeared into thick air
Our world was so bizzarre 60 mil years ago, let alone 440 mil years ago when things like allucigenia were a thing
Aw I feel bad for the arthropleura
2:33 i love how the subtitle guy just gave up on spelling the region name
40 mph for a dragonfly is INSANE!
Everything was big those days
Imagine a 6 feet in a 6 feet hole

Question. I been wondering something for a long time. Can you make insects like that again?? I mean if I was to take like dubia roaches n raise them in a sealed tank that had 35%O2 in it would they get huge after a bunch of generations went by? Has that ever even been tried? If I had a supply for the gases I would need for atleast a few yrs I would so try it out. But could it be done?
You want a make giant roaches...👀
@@i_amTHE_raBBit1984 any insect would be fine. Just thought roaches would be the easiest since they breed fast
No, I don't think so. Unless you also apply selection pressure, there is no reason for them to get bigger.
@@dag1196 ok so say I raise them like that n any small ones i take out of that ecosystem and only leave the largest of all. Would that trigger it or do I need an actual animal to put pressure on them fully??
@@erikiacopelli451 Yeah I guess that could work, kind of like breeding dogs. However, there is a possibility that the insect does not have the genetic potential to get that large. Also, if you are going to select the animals yourself you could get problems further on, for example by selecting one trait like body size you can also accidentally be selecting for other traits such as changes in digestive system (that's a process called pleiotropy). So I guess you should then have very extensive knowledge of the genetic makeup of the animals.
For an interesting experiment related to this you could look at the E. Coli long term evolution experiment on Wikipedia. They ran this experiment since 1988 and showed that bacteria in culture evolved to, among other things, faster growth rates and bigger cell sizes.
2:35 sounds like #DarkNetflix music
I’m here because I saw one of these on the ground jump up and fly right by me… the most insane thing I’ve ever seen and when I looked it up it said there is still a few in Canada this might be a different species but this was at least 2-3ft long and wide… I was utterly mind blown and look around and a lady was right there walking the other way and said “what the heck was that!?!?” It’s body was hanging as it flew away indistinguishable from a dragonfly. Nobody believed me lol.. anybody else!?
Earth is magma and water and insects.
I wish we could clone one of these giant insects. It would be facinating to study how such a creature lives.
Even if you clone one of them it couldn't survive because of less oxygen in the air.
@@battlebrother2390 Yeah, your probably right.
Badass.
That thing could snatch me!

I believe there were giant humans back then
Too much oxyegen can kill a human you idiot
@@cheekeongliew2979 so if you want to make giant creatures just put them in a room with lots of oxygen?kingkonglou
yeah this is where the 12 foot home depot halloween skeletons come from
Yes, and together with their size their brains shrank too to a minimal size !
Why tf do their videos get that much dislike
He says humans couldn’t have survived in such an oxygen rich environment, but… I mean, can’t you just take really shallow breaths?
it's about the percentage. Such oxygen levels are going to cause circulatory system issues.
ที่แมลงปอในยุคดึกดำบรรพ์มีขนาดใหญ่ก็เพราะoxygenมี%สูงในอากาศ คืออยากให้ทดลองไปเลยครับ🤫
Æ førstår ikke ka du sir.
weird
There's still a giant dragonfly in our school
These guys are the original ornithopter.
"Humans could not survive this high O2 atmosphere".. We sure about that? That doesn't sound right.
Not long term, circulatory system gets borked
horrific
bro the camera man
Mf is a whole ass helicopter
so if you want to make thing giant size on earth just put them in a room with high oxygen levels? i dont think so.

oh
False
in today time 21% CO2 wont do so try to improvise and find the other 11 percent ;) welcome!
Ewwww 4:21 I hate that
lol now imagine some guy in a recording studio making those mouth noises
That's why the oxygen levels today is 21% cuz of that damn pollution
The oxygen levels dropped way before industrial pollution was even a thing? Like the narrator said, humans wouldn't survive with such high oxygen, but humans have been around for thousands of years, much before any kind of mass pollution.
Teegarden A is a planet only 12 light years away and in the habitable zone that has oxygen level of 32% , water, iron, gold, sun is a red dwarf so not harsh on living conditions so we might see similar conditions to prehistoric Earth there.
that's a good thing we don't have to do with gigantic insects 👌🏻
Unless you give the arthropods too much oxyegen to make them large
@@cheekeongliew2979 Just give them lungs and they could get as large as they wanted
