Espee Mars lights, SF's Prime beacons, cabooses, no graffiti, who wouldnt like this video....and GREAT audio of a unique time in railroading, thanks for sharing
My last video that I shot as a railfan was in 1997 because I was watching the Southern Pacific disappearing in ever increasing amounts. The Southern Pacific was always THAT OTHER RAILROAD out in the west. Everyone knew the Santa Fe and everyone knew the Union Pacific. Not everyone knew the red and grey. But oh Boy I sure DID.
true SP might not exist physically, but it's locomotives, pictures ,videos former lines rolling stock , buildings etc .Still live on today ! Besides the locomotives might be yellow ,but they are still SP . And you know when you rail fan at a x-SP line you might say ! Must have been nice when SP was here . Guess What ! It is ! It always will be SP ! Remember this SP graffiti ,SP dirt test do remove ! (from your mind ) !!

Yep: And to add, The old H-2 Searchlight Signals. All the things that made railfanning complete for me. Sad to see both the SP and Santa Fe gone. The old Santa Fe mainline passes right behind the complex where I live, But watching trains isn't the same now. Mike in Fresno, Ca.
Basically a constant 2.2% gradient from Caliente, up through the loop, to the summit near the town of Tehachapi, a distance of 28 rail miles. About 15 miles by air.
Great video! The loop remains an incredible spot to watch trains. I think that Union Pacific's closure of the loop to railfans was a very poorly though out concession to the ranchers.
Love the sound of those old Leslie horns on the old Santa Fe. I live 100 yards from the old Santa Fe track here in Fresno, but with BNSF it just ain't the same. Mike in Fresno.
SD45 #5314 seems to really be digging in. Last photo of this engine on rrpicturearchives is 1989 and the frame number doesn't show up anywhere else after that.
I love the video. Also nice shot of the SSW SD45T-2 # 9390 locomotive in factory condition, which would eventually be rebuilt in 1989 and become the SD45T-2R # 6886, with the SSW still intact. Thanks for the upload.

Pretty cool at 25:51 how they throttle up a little to put the helpers back in dynamics and they wind up for the downhill run....

The Santa Fe 5008 locomotive is being preserved and restored at Walt Disney Museum in Marceline, Mo.
Great video...
Hey a before shop well cut of an SDP40F-2 at 8:38, nice!
The age of the caboose and NO Graffii to speak of. The sounds of the tunnel motors.....nice. So long SP
I love 21:38! It's like the guy's saying, "Why you creepin on me?!"
I wish UP did a special train where all the engines would be tunnel motors.
This is really excellent. Can you tell me when this particular video was shot? Even better if you have a full date. Thank you.
Yes, See wikipedia info just added in description.
I didn't know William Conrad worked for Southern Pacific. Dude in the stopped helper looks just like "Cannon", LOL

@ 09:02--a caboose. COOL!!!
I DID SUBSCRIBED TO THIS VIDEO ON YOU TUBE THANK YOU FROM DENISE TINDALL😂
What happened to the bnsf TimeLapse videos?
This is the mid to late 80's. BNSF didn't come to be a company til 1996.
21:30 LOL
No hay
Four minutes of staring at a conductor is a bit much.
+Harold Reardon But hey at least his descendants will know what he did during his life if they see this video.
