I literally started playing bloodborne the day before yesterday, this has been stuck in my head! I basically don't know anything about the cello, but I'm impressed by those harmonics. What a versitile instrument. Just by listening I wouldn't be able to tell it's not an ensemble. Brilliant cover, really makes me want to learn cello!
Have you picked up the instrument yet? I just recently bought myself a cello and am looking forward to playing this piece :) Bloodborne has so many good songs for the cello!
Hunter's Dream is my favorite piece from the Bloodborne soundtrack, and this is so beautifully done in capturing the tone and feel of the original. Great job! 🙌🏻
Hunter's dream + doll line when level up is something i can't forget even if i'll have Alzheimer. Just a dream: yesterday i bought my first cello. Zero experience. If you make a little tut 2 years after it would be my birthday present. Thx 😍
I play guitar and learned classically to a decent level - I’ve always had a fascination with the cello and I have to say I’m blown away by the accuracy of your performance here. Seriously well done, I’m going to be listening to this quite a few times haha! Really makes me want to give the cello a go, I love it.
Great job on this! I've been listening to this a lot lately and I just wanted to say I love this performance so much. Beautiful playing and great execution on the editing
Congratulations for making the perfect cover of this track! It's not the first song that comes to mind when I think of the Bloodborne OST but I'm glad I found your video anyway! I can't wait for other covers (or just other videos in general) that you might have in store, though I would love to see more music from Bloodborne like Ludwig the Accursed Blade ^^'
Bloodborne is what made me want to learn the cello. I have been playing for a month and other than some of the vibrato, this seems like something that I could learn in a few months of practice since this song is perfect for the cello.
Thank you! To answer your question: Not that long. I do so much arranging for work that my ears have gotten pretty adept at "zooming in" on parts. This was one day of listening and recording, and I think an additional day of mixing and video editing.
Its so heartbreaking. Your performance is spellbinding. In technical classical music terms, is this considered an aria or lament of sorts ? Are there other pieces in the cannon similar to it? I consider myself an experienced classical music listener but I am just stumped by the hunter's dream. It sounds totally unique to me.
Thank you for your comment. I would think of this as an instrumental "chant". The call-and-response structure is the main clue. The constant pedal-point is another, and since the game has A LOT of religious themes and symbolism I tend to think that's what Ryan Amon was going for. As to similar pieces, "Hail The Nightmare" (another Bloodborne track) is an actual chant, although completely different in character, but similar in structure. Finding something similar in the realm of classical music might prove tricky, since this type of relatively "static" composing is quite modern. The "hub themes" in the souls-games all tend to stick to a similar mood though.
@@oskarpalmhelmersson Thank you so much for the detailed response! I hadn't thought of the renaissance inspiration behind this. That makes a lot of sense now. Again, your performance and intonation are so incredible. Especially in bringing out the human vocals.
If you dig this kind of sound maybe look for motets from Palestrina or Tallis (he wrote a beast of a piece with 40 independant voices, lol). It‘s choral music. There‘s also cool instrumental music by Josquin. Hope this gives your music discovery Journey! Not exactly the same as modern soundtracks, but surely where the inspiration for it originates.
This channel is really a hidden gem. I have watched all the videos and like them all. You cover not only the notes perfectly, but also the nuances and atmosphere in the music! The part where some woman (maybe the doll) sing or hymn in the background, you even capture them here! Bravo bravo bravo! Cant wait for future upload! Keep up the good work! PS: This is not putting a pressure but would love to hear the Elden Ring main theme cover from you!
Thank you! When I made this video I had just finished my master's degree in cello performance. I've been playing since I was nine, so 17 years at this point.
Hope you enjoy your playthrough! Indeed I am classically trained. I just finished my master’s degree and currently revisiting the Bach Cello Suites, in close company of Bohuslav Martinu’s Cello Sonatas. But being finished with my studies, I’m really enjoying arranging these kinds of soundtracks. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@oskarpalmhelmersson Nice! Personally, I'd appreciate some solo cello uploads, because I don't know many pieces. Also sounds like you'll have more time for covers once you finished your master's degree, so looking forward to that! ;)
This is incredible and sounds identical to the OST
45/10 well done sir
Thank you kindly!
why 45?😂

Sorry for the questione but where i can find the score?
Unfortunately there isn't one. I did it by ear and then memorized the parts only for the recording. Sorry!
Was it originally written for viola?
Yes, the solo is originally a viola-solo (based on what I can hear). I tried recreating a similar color with choice of strings.
