London Kid. Jean Michel Jarre / Hank Marvin cover. Phil McGarrick

- Jean Michel Jarre invited Hank Marvin to play "London Kid" with him on the Royal Victoria Docks, Docklands, London on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9 October 1988, to coincide with the release of Jarre's new album Revolutions. The concerts were attended by 100,000 people on each night. And it poured with rain !!
This is my cover of Hank's part using my Alan Brason Stratocaster with Kinman FV-HMS pickups on bridge position.
The Backing track came from Renato Vignocchi Vol 7 available from Leo's Den here:-

Recorded using Alesis Quadraverb Q2 with Charlie Halls Echoes (EFTP) from the patch patch 0-36 (No Amp)
Into Cubase via Presonus AudioBox USB.
Video made with 3x Sony SR12 camcorders and edited with the sound in Sony Vegas.

Takes me back to 18 and a trip with my mates to London to the docklands concert,we parked over the Thames and watched it was a great experience

@random275 we were wet through,even tho we were in two cars,the windows were down as we were smoking weed,(we were young and stupid) now grown up,but listening to jmj on weed was eerie and enjoyable at the same time.. when I bought my guitar the first thing I sought was london kid and you popped up,excellent to watch and listen to. Just come across this version. Best guitar ive heard since hank did this back in 1988. Very true to sound and no fret noise. Perfect. Well done. Being a jarre and marvin fan myself.

You are a man o' me aan heart.. aam 75 in three weeks time.. been a Hank fan since 1959..played aal thi Shads and other groups tracks.. and if this had been playing in the room on sumbody else's phone.. a wudda thowt it WAS Hank!!... noo THAT'S sayin' summik for ye Marra!! Thanks Ric - I have learnt that as well as the Destinations Docklands concert in the London - JMJ & Hank also played it in Paris at the 100th Year celebration of the Eiffel tower - both are on YT.

I have not stopped to like anything for a while on YT. I just stopped to LIKE this, because i did like it David., You have no idea how many of your instrumental interpretations I have in my music filles, you would either be tickled pink, or totally shocked, you have uploaded 205, I have not got them all but well over 50%. there has to be a GOOD reason for my interest, and it is beacause I think you are GOOD at what you do. David LIKED number 5 is mine.

This version is the closest sound to Hanks Strat on all of You Tube. No one else comes close yet.

I don't know the tune but it sounds terrfic with your very high standard of phrasing. Anyone who wants to cover this tune in the future better think twice. I do. LOL! If you look up the original video of JMJ & Hank at the concert on YT I'm sure you will enjoy it even though everyone got soaked !

Hi Stuart - Yes I bet it was a great atmosphere there !! I don't know if Hank used Bridge & middle - I would have to use my other strat with the Kinman Impersonators and K7 harness to achieve this, lots of talk about him having his pickups wired to achieve this.

Unfortunately - no one has made tabs for this song ( I checked Tabman & Steve Gibb) If you use chrome as your browser you can slow the video down to half speed by clicking on the setting (cog symbol)under the right of the video - select speed, and then .5
perhaps you can see the fret positions this way.

Hallo Walter - Ja, ich habe das aufgenommen, bevor ich meine eigenen Tracks gemacht habe. Ich habe meine üblichen Quellen durchgesehen und es wurden keine Registerkarten für diese erstellt.
Was ich vorschlagen würde, ist die Verlangsamung des Videos auf die halbe Geschwindigkeit und Sie werden die Saiten- / Bundpositionen leichter sehen. Klicken Sie rechts neben dem Video auf Settings (Cog-Symbol), wählen Sie speed und dann 0.5. Die Wiedergabe erfolgt mit halber Geschwindigkeit, wobei die gleiche Tonhöhe beibehalten wird. Ich hoffe, das ist hilfreich. Prost Phil
