I totally agree. I love Sanderson, but Well of Ascension is what I believe to be his worst work. I enjoyed Hero of Ages, and then I moved on to stormlight.
It's interesting to hear folks' thoughts on WoA. I've heard people laud it as the best of Era 1 Mistborn and others almost want to skip it because of Zane-related matters. Kelsier was a rock for the first book, and his absence is sorely felt here until Sanderson rights the landing with the following book. My biggest problem likely comes from the fact that Zane isn't very three dimensional as presented. That's somewhat intentional given what's happened to him, but I only really see him as he stands in reflection to both Vin and Elend rather than on his own. Characters can have a purpose in the narrative, sure, but I wish Zane's wasn't worn on the chest so much.
Interesting that you mentioned Kelsier, I thought his absence was sorely missed Zane is a weird one because he could have been so much more. Especially given the way he was introduced in this book
@TheCriticalReader I mean its been a while since ive read them. But in my reviews i remember that the hero of ages was a 8/10, great book, however felt longer than it should have been and had a slow beggining. I gave WOA 9/10 mainly due to the mass amounts of tension and each chapter had me back excited to read more. I think generally i like more enticing, quick books that keep me engaged, which is a problem i have with Sanderson books. His books are amazing but difficult to read through apart from the last hundred or s o pages

How are you finding stormlight?
@TheCriticalReader I am reading Wind and Truth right now. Enjoying it! So far book 2 is my favorite.
@@ryanolson356 everyone seems to hold book 2 in very high regard. I’ll probably read The Way of Kings later in the year

I didn’t care for the slog in the middle. It was worth it for the battle of Luthadel and Hero of Ages though.
This is the running theme from comments I get: that it’s worth it. I’m definitely sticking with it, hopefully I like a Hero of Ages
I've heard people either love it or hate it.
I love the well of ascension and find is the strongest book of era 1.
Even more than the Hero of Ages? That’s the one I hear people champion the most

I get you, 8/10 is still a very good score at least. I've got the physical copy of the Hero of Ages; I'll defo do a review when I finish it
