This was awesome! So much packed into this. I was sooooo close to doing this on a product that has this function on a trellis system. The formulas are clutch! Thanks, BIMsmith!!!
@2:29. I did not see the dim in parameters options to map the profile width and depth. what am missing? I did add the parameters in the profile family.
Hi, BIMsmith Thank you for tutorial. I want to count amount of louvers into spec. But when I enable "shared" into every nested family, the final family is crashing down. Could you advise me something to do?
how do you even get to that initial setup? I added dim with parameters to them but I can't change them unless if I click on my lines to make sure they are working. would that be the same thing?
At 2.25 when you go into the type properties, the Depth and Width parameters, where do they come from, when I go in to type properties of my profil, theres no dimension parameters there?
I made this with void sweep, to make an array of openings in a panel instead of louvres. the void isnt cutting the panel(extrusion). can anyone tell me why?
Great presentation but to me this is a lot of steps, since I am 'toopid. Have you compiled the steps in written form so I can follow in my usual glacial manner?
I did not really get it about open en closed. How the formula controled the Rotation. I thought should make it with type catalog to let it open or close.
Hi Lili! That's a great point - if you wanted, you could make the family open or closed based on different types and preset the rotation values; that may be especially helpful if you have one size and rotation on one facade and a different size and rotation on another. However, without a specific project in mind, if we're providing a family like this on BIMsmith Market, we try to take advantage of using a formula and yes/no parameters to allow for any custom input still enforcing limits on the rotation. Also, we tend to overuse instance parameters in these videos to show the values and geometry flex immediately - that's a point well taken. Thanks for your comment!
@@BIMsmith Clearly and I also notice that I have to select the geometry first. Then make the parameter. Very useful for making one transform facade and thanks a lot!
Watched it direct in UA-cam. That solved it. Great Video. Thank You. (maybe an idea to have a User library on your site where we can make available improvisations of models we based on your instructions?
Hi Rijn, sorry to hear that. If you like, you can reach out to our Revit support team at support@bimsmith.com and we'll get someone to take a look with you. Mention that you watched this video and are still having trouble and they'll be happy to help!
For me, it was the number of parenthesis at the end of ifs formulas. I'm new to this, and I kept missing out on the correct number, so it never corresponded to the number of nested ifs. All went smooth when addressing that.

5:55 for the array portion, this is what I needed, thanks!
Thanks, super cool video. It's simpler to put the formula for the number of louvers as Panel height / Louver width, it gives the same result.
Nice Video. Very helpful. Maybe slow down a touch so we can keep up a little better.
you can slow down any video .. check video playback speed in settings

Great tutorial ! Thanks Mr. Pete!

Great video!! Thanks so much.
Is there a good way to create an array, but have the opportunity to individually offset the position of elements?
Great presentation but to me this is a lot of steps, since I am 'toopid. Have you compiled the steps in written form so I can follow in my usual glacial manner?
Unfortunately not for this video, sorry! We will have to do that for future videos.

Great. Pity the resolution on the screen is bad. Could not read some of the symbols used to constrain the angle of rotation

Dude, I followed your formula. All I ever get are errors. I'm out, my mind's getting crazy. :((((

Here is the formula
(Panel height - (2 * Array offset)) / Louver width
