I don't know from where students/teachers get these kind of trends. Njn 2014 EEE Graduate aanu and I can say EEE got vast amount of opportunities across the globe. I'm working in the UK, ivde etavm kooduthal shortage occupancy ulla oru field EEE aanu but KEAM last rank nokkumbo EEE okke least considered branch aanu. Why coaching centre teachers are misleading students? If you are passionate enough in a particular branch go for it, you'll end up in a good job and never ever blindly follow a teacher's advice on which branch to choose.

Every company is a digital company. This is just a start. Please learn coding from schools iteself, eventhough you are not into computer science. I know lot of physics research fellows use Python. So its essential to understand computer science has different levels. You can think as its layers. You can go deep enough into the core or you can learn some applications and find some jobs, its upto your taste.
What I'm saying is, please bear in mind what you need to peruse based on that interest and question in mind approach course. You will definitely find your way. Interest and curiosity is what you need now, rest will follow.

Don't mislead people saying AI will take away CS jobs. It won't. If you're interested and have passion for CS join CS. ECE also give you the same scope but also additional scope into chip design, embedded systems etc.but the whole subject is bit harder than CS but manageable.

As of now cse ( for an experienced engineer after minimum 5 year. Currently CSE have more opportunities and package for the mid career people. But job security comparatively very less.
* And always it's depends upon the experience and skills. An engineer degree without any skills and experience will not pay you anything. So basically the branch is not paying the field of work is paying ( it is IT).
* Also you can work in the software field with CSE or ECE degree (skills only matters) but vice versa is most probably not possible.

Software field has more companies coming to colleges, they'll also take ECE people if they have enough skills.
