    Hi Grass Daddy. Thank you for your continued informative format. Your lawn looks great! I’m also in the northeast and have submitted to heat stress (even with irrigation). With a soil probe test, I’ve realized that I have very hard clay like soil and long watering doesn’t seem to be penetrating deep enough. Is there any thing I can do, besides more aerating, to help loosen this hard-packed soil???

    Sedgehammer is my go to for that nutsedge. Took me 5 years to totally get rid of it. It’s a mother to get rid of for sure.

      Rose Duke you have to spray it. It speads underground. You don’t have to go crazy with it just spray till wet. It will die but it forms little nut seeds in the soil. So it is still growing underground. It takes time just keep spraying the new growth. Eventually it will go away. The longer you have had it in your yard the harder it is to remove

    I appreciate your enthusiasm... but gotta be honest... your lawn is definitely a work in progress... I think you are being too technical on most things and your lawn is suffering because of it. Nevertheless I will subscribe to watch your progress.

    I'm having trouble getting the part of the backyard I planted with grass seed to look thick. I used one of those biodegradable roll out mats. Wasn't thick enough so I added seed 3 weeks later. But now we are getting hot dry weather. It's like 90 here now. And my soil is sandy soil that dries out quickly.
    But my succulents/ cactus garden is loving the sandy soil and hot weather.
    We've been watering the grass like 3 times a day. It always looks dry if we don't.

    Tim, I have been over seeding 10,000 sq ft in the fall with 4-way turf type tall fescue from Rural King, I think it's a 20 lb or 25 lb bag, one of their more expensive, and my Country Extension agent said it was good seed. My lawn comes out by great, looks awesome thru fall, winter, and spring, and in July and August it looks like hell. I can't figure out if it's heat stress/ dormant, grubs or brown patch, although I did apply some Disease X, But I haven't seen any difference. Any suggestions ? What is a couple good quality tall fescue grass seeds that is somewhat heat stress tolerate ? Thanks, JohnG

    One thing to consider is soil type. A sandy soil needs more watering days and less each time because it doesn't hold the moisture so well. Giving it 1 inch of water is a waste if it filters below the root line of the grass. I have sandy loam I get the best results watering 3 times a week at about half an inch each time. Sometimes if it super hot, 90+ for a week without rain I wil do another day in my full sun areas.

    It seems almost impossible to only water 2 times a week , every day I have to hand water hot spots ,but gonna have to try 1” twice a week. Must take 2 hours per zone to get 1” . Definitely like to know more about that wetting agent any recommendations?

    I noticed that you said that you have some nutsedge popping up in your front lawn. I too all of a sudden have yellow nutsedge popping up all over one part of my front lawn. And it's spreading!What happened? Where did it come from? I purchased the Ortho nutsedge killer that you reccomend. It does turn it white but then OMGSH it comes right back with a vengeance. What can I do? Please help.
    Love your videos. XOXO'S

      You got to keep spraying it repeatedly. I'll do it weekly once I'm ready to spray it. Might actually be next week's video as it seems the weather has cooled a bit today.

    Good advice watering daily in high heat and humidity will also promote fungus which can devastate the turf.

  • @agn015

    Are you still mulch mowing during this heat and humidity? I want to mulch for OM and nutrient recycling but every year have some disease pressure here on Long Island. This year I started bagging in July (not sure when I should switch back to mulching) and noticed much less mycelium and my shady sections seem stronger since they can dry out better without the mulched clippings there.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  4 роки тому +1

      Yes I mulch mow year round.

    Tim what are your thoughts on dethatching in the summer? I find myself grabbing the Groundskeeper II and picking a small are to “fluff up” a bit. Still amazed how much debris I can pull up.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  4 роки тому +1

      Dethatching can damage the crowns so I don't do it during the summer. Once it starts to cool down it can be helpful when the lawn sheds summer blades..

    Anyone seen the 2000 lbs of fertilizer from 2017... or was it 2016... any hoo... never saw one ounce of that 2000 lbs dropped on this lawn and if it was, it was done in double secret probation, no video allowed, incognito style.
    We’re talking 2000 lbs!! Not one vid or review or mention... ( yah ya split it with the guy in the truck, but still...2000 lbs)
