This crew camera weighs 4.03 lbs. That is only a hair over one pound more than the Nikon Z9, the flagship hybrid for RED's new ownership. I can't wait to see what getting Nikon engineers in the same room with RED's guys does for a camera meant to be handled by a single operator operating with just a bag beyond the 8K RAW benefits.

Thank you so much for enlighting the subject. It's clear what the trend is and where to move. I know some fellows who stuck on the film super 16 mm and even super 8. Now the cameras are going more expensive and the producing - more cheap. If you need the immediate result you shouldn't avoid these electronic monsters, these ones and some more cheaper. Thank you

Personally I would rather buy Sony Venice 2 8.6k instead.

Well given its the more expensive option I'm guessing most people would rather it than the raptor, and im not saying its a bad camera, I love the image and think within the youtube filmmaker sphere its criminally underrated with how little its talked about but lets keep things in perspective, the venice body costs $10k more than a production pack of the raptor xl, and you also have to account for the $5k viewfinder, 2 $4k software licenses to use what you paid for, and the $4k proprietary media that while arguably not as egregious as what red was doing for so long given their proprietary media was literally off the shelf media, it still stings considering that its nearly half the speed as a 1tb angelbird and nearly 10x the price as well, all of this mind you may not matter if you're a professional with no real choice as you're answering to higher ups for workflow reasons but it's something to think about within this hypothetical space.

@@zebius4157 the Venice is also way more reliable. So the extra cost for high end film making is better.
You’re not going to have it randomly crash when you turn it off. As someone who works in production, I’ve heard nightmare stories of anyone who I know shooting red. They almost always have (Owned or rented) another red on standby in case their A cam goes out.
Anyone who I know shooting in Venice doesn’t have this issue. They usually just rock the one. They don’t even bother renting a spare.
Sony has a huge advantage as they make reliable consumer cameras too. Their cinema camera boot time is like 2 seconds which is faster than a lot of other cinema cameras. A lot of the fast consumer functions trickle over.
Reliability on set is almost always more worth the extra cost than saving a few grand. Because losing your camera on a several thousand to several million dollar shoot is never fun.

There are many lenses that would be a great fit for the RED V-RAPTOR. It all depends on what image you're trying to capture. Please reach out to one of our pro video experts, and they would recommend lenses that would be the best fit for what you want to use it for. Email sales@bhphoto.com or call 800-606-6969

phase detect in an actual cinema camera that is actually used in making actual real movies? but dont panasonic fanboys say real cinematographers dont need phase detect? i guess red was wrong in implementing this feature.
