- It is vital to be able to soften an edge in watercolour. This creates connections, probably the most important aspect when painting. This short video shows you how and why softening is so important. Visit my website www.grahamebooth.com for more resources for the watercolour painter.
Thanks, Grahame. The insight of giving the paint somewhere to go rather than pushing straight into the edge is a light bulb moment.
You're welcome Tom.
Brilliantly explained. Thank you, sir.
Wow, I have never seen this explained this way. It was definitely a light bulb moment for me as well. Thank you!
Wonderful drawing! Super superb water drawing! Wonderful work dear friend🌹🌹🌹
Thank you! Cheers!
Outstanding video. Thank you so much! This explains a lot to me. It explains why sometimes the areas that I tried to soften look great at other times not so much. Now I know why.
Glad it was helpful Charles. This is something that is often glossed over in watercolour instruction but I believe it is one of the most important, if not the most important technique.
Ironically, I was trying to soften an edge just now and your video popped up. Thank you, I was in need of help. 🇨🇦 just tried it an it worked perfectly. You saved me a lot of time.
Glad I could help Anne!
Thank you very much, you explained it very clearly
Wonderful little video Grahame! I don't recall hearing your amazing tip (to keep the brush on the paper & not lifting it until move away from the paint ) before . What a difference since I started following it! Your paintings are stunning!
Glad it was helpful Jennet.
Amazing tips Grahame, thank you so much !...
Beautifully explained ❤
Just found you Grahame as you’ve been recommended as one of the best watercolour artists. This has been so helpful I find it’s great following tutorials but I never knew any of these tips as you’re the first to explain why you use these techniques. Another Northern Irish person here 🤩total beginner.
Excellent tips!
Great explanation Grahame thank you, I could listen to your voice all day 🤭
Thank you Pauline
excellent lesson!
I love your style…. Quite lovely
Great to see a new video Grahame, love your Searchpress books.
Glad you like them Damien. There will be a new one coming on plein air watercolour but publication won't be until 2024
Enlightening, great tip for learners (me), thanks a lot.
Very helpful video. Thankyou.
Just what I need
Brilliant! Thank you for making it so clear.
You're very welcome Judy
Learned something from this and I’ve been painting for awhile. Thanks
Glad to help Kevin
Thank you, I needed to see and hear this. I have been wondering what I am doing wrong when I soften edges. This helped alot! Thx you!
Glad it was helpful Cindy
Thank you for this valuable tip! I really needed this technique and it totally makes sense!!!
Glad it was helpful Mary.
I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve been painting for about eight years and never learned this method before. Thank you for finally ending my ignorance and teaching me the right way to soften edges. 🩵
Never be embarrassed about not knowing something. It took me years too so I'm glad it has helped you.
Grazie!
Esclarecedora suas informações para melhorar a integracão dos espaços. Muito agradecida por compartilhar.
You're welcome Cenira
Great! Thank you!
You are welcome Vólia
Thank you so much! Now I know.
Glad I could help
Thank you. I love your palette. May I ask where it’s from? I paint on location and would like to find a palette with more mixing area. I find it hard to remember all the techniques as I paint so fast and get carried away trying to capture the moment figures mainly. I don’t draw before I paint but maybe I should. I’m looking for an affordable mop brush so watched your video on materials but didn’t get the size. Love your work 😊
I made the palette muself Amanda but I can recommend the Liz Deakin palette as an inexpensive palette with plenty of mixing areas. I can also recommend The Rosemary&Co Sienna synthetic mop, size 6.
Great insight..thank you very much.
I m inspired to buy your book.
What is the title of the book?
Thank you for sharing your talent
Glad you found it useful. There are a few books available. Probably simplest to Google me on Amazon and you will find them there.
