The janitor's room is least likely. I still believe he is a manifestation of the spirit of Possum Springs itself so he wouldn't need to sleep. I'm not convinced it's for Bruce either because Pastor K was specifically prepping the church to be a shelter and I genuinely doubt she'd have the excess resources to also lease an additional apartment. I'm convinced it's Eide's room now. The sword and saints combined with the difficulty of simply reaching the place (walking through walls would def help with that) makes me think it can't really be anyone else.
Diz, as always, this is a tremendous comment! You bring up a GEAT point about the difficulty of reaching the place. With Eide's ability to walk through walls, he definitely would have the easiest time reaching the room. And because of this, he'd probably think it's the perfect hideaway. He probably didn't see a reason to lock it up every day, because as he sees it, only people with his abilities can get there - unbeknownst to the fact that Mae found a window inside.
There is exactly zero proof, but I'd like to think it's pastor Ks room. I like thinking she's secretly homeless too, which is why she's trying so hard to help Bruce.
A friend of mine once brought a sword to school - I can't remember what for, but I do remember it was too heavy for me to hold up with one hand. Interestingly, nobody seemed to care much about a couple of guys waving a proper (even if blunt) sword around in the middle of the corridor.
I never thought of the room being Eide's but it makes sense, especially since there's no mention of where he lives and like you said, it would make it easier to keep an eye on Mae.
The stuck fire escape door presumably has stairs/a fire escape outside it, perhaps Pastor Kay planned on getting it unlocked as well. I *really* want to know more about the world in NitW, including the religion, because it sounds so much cooler than religions we have in our world. We don't have fire-breathing popes but if we did I might be a church-goer. Of course I also want to know more about Longest Night (which is obviously Winter Solstice) because that seems to be what they have instead of Christmas, and why they call Halloween Harfest, etc. I love it when media gives you these little clues that let you know it's not our world, just really similar.
That's a great point about the fire escape! And me too! I might do a deep dive about the religions and holidays at some point down the line. I feel like between the constellation segments, which reference it, and Lost Constellation, which is deeply mired in it, there's probably enough to piece together some general statements about their beliefs and such.
I had a lot of possible theories on who lived in the Hidden Room, but the one I gravitated the most, despite the lack of proof, is it belonged to Mae's Grandfather. My only reasoning - the sword. Because - and it made me smile when you mentioned this group - my grandfather was a Knight of Columbus. When he died, there was a ceremony for him. Perhaps it was a bit biased on my part, but like Mae, I miss my grandpa a lot, and there's still a lot of things I wish I knew more about him. But since he fought in the Philippines against the Japanese, he had his reasons he did not say much about that time in his life.
First of, thank you for sharing this about your grandfather! Sounds like he was a great man. I miss mine as well - he died when I was fairly young. I like the theory that he lived here! Maybe it was his secret crash pad for his ongoing affair with Miss Rosa!
I don't think the room would be Bruce's since the bed has been slept in 1. I doubt Pastor K would go to the trouble of setting up a room for Bruce, just to leave the bed unmade 2. Bruce sleeps in his tent set-up outside the church, doesn't he? At the very least, I doubt he'd stay near it if he was sleeping and keeping his stuff in the mysterious room (assuming the clothes and boxes are his)
I'm actually really glad they left this a mystery. Just like speculating who might be cult members, I don't think we ever meet them in town. I think it's far more interesting if we never actually met any of the cult members in town. They were there, watching in the shadows, but not overtly interacting. Just like the room. We never really know. It's likely someone we never met in town. Also, I do believe Bruce killed himself. He's "going to see his family." They're likely dead, and he's going to see him. If you don't actually speak to Bruce the day before he leaves, Pastor K reacts MUCH differently, and FAR more angrily. She knew what happened to him.
Thank you so much for making all your night in the woods vids they keep me company while I draw and fill the hole in my heart from revenant hill! This game spoke to me in a way that is indescribable and i'm glad there are others!! I'm ALWAYS watching and re-watching these and I probably will for many years to come thank you for your hard work
i've played and replayed this game dozens of times over the four years i've owned it and i had NO IDEA about this room at all! just goes to show how much content it has for those looking to explore.
What I found truly amazing is that skipping certain dialogues and interactions opens up new dialogue with certain characters. You can TOTALLY skip the fight with your mom. If you don't speak to Bruce before he leaves, Pastor K reacts MUCH differently. I played through several times just to try finding all that.
Growing up in the Catholic Church I always heard about the knights of Columbus since they were involved in some community events. I never knew they had ceremonial swords! So interesting
I can see it being the room that Pastor K was preparing for Bruce. It's in a worn down building that is probably part of chamber of commerce storage. Hence why it isn't an ideal apartment situation, it was a storage room turned apartment for someone she wanted to help. Makes sense why she would be upset Bruce left besides him being someone she considered a friend. Another great video as always! Keep up the amazing work! Hopefully I can make the next live stream!
honestly same, I thought I discovered every secret this game, except maybe for the ones in Demontower since I don't like rougelikes. but it still keeps surprising me
SPOILER WARNING@@generalgozdzikov7343 last time I played the game I just went into the back rooms of the church and took a nap just to take a break to use the bathroom, and that's how I discovered the ghost of Mae's granddad's appearance
Yaaaay!! I just got into Night in the Woods last fall! I think it's gonna be my go to halloween game~ i love it so much and i am so happy you are talking about! I had no idea the game came out so long ago. Definitely timeless~ 💖
Have you done a video on the ghosts in Mae’s dreams yet? It took me a while, but I finally found out that they’re the ghosts of an old band called “Deep Hollow Hollerers.” Mae finds about them in the pigeon building with Sadie and Saleem the music players.
i don’t think it matters whose room it is/was. i think it’s another detail to possum springs, that gives it more dimension, intended to make the player think. who lives or lived here? why do they live here? do i know someone like that? i don’t think it’s intended to have a concrete answer, more so a thoughtpiece just like the rest of the game
I think it's the mysterious figure cult member seeing as he is around during the sequences and then locks up before going to the mine before his death by the elevator
Filling out paperwork because of a blunt metal sword, when the random metal piping you find everywhere would make a much better weapon. People are silly.
I wish we had more concreat informaton on the sword. Given the time line I've always thought it was a room for Bruce, but the sword made me dout it. I feel like if the sord had religious significance Mae might have noticed some sort of marking on it, or said it reminded her of one someone else owned. The sword is the main reasion I dismiss the Bruce theroy, but just as likely it was something that had been storred there for other reasons in the past and Pastor K didn't have anywhere to put it. I assuem it has meaning but I don't really know what it is. I think a room for Bruce is as likely as anything else. That fact that there is no bathroom does add to the Bruce naritive since I could imagain someone setting up a covert room like this and not thinking about the need to have one.
The janitor's room is least likely. I still believe he is a manifestation of the spirit of Possum Springs itself so he wouldn't need to sleep.

@@owlbatross9187 But why would he unlock the door in the first place if it started out closed and he can go trough walls?

sometimes people are just good people, they don’t need a reason.
@@user-ln2go4xp6dyoure right, and of course they can. But in medias and video games the narrative are usually a bit more motivated.

I never thought of the room being Eide's but it makes sense, especially since there's no mention of where he lives and like you said, it would make it easier to keep an eye on Mae.
Definitely! And as another commentor pointed out, it might even explain how he's able to get up there, since he can walk through walls!
The sword makes sense for Eide, cultists having a sword helps explain arm chopping abilities in front of the Klik Klak 😊

I don't think the room would be Bruce's since the bed has been slept in

Both good points! Yeah, the unmade bed definitely complicates things, since it suggests that someone is actively sleeping there during that timeframe.
